Its not a forbidden technique, its a secret one that Iroh learned by studying waterbenders and taught it to Zuko since Zuko's temperament prevented him from using lightning bending at that time. (he would just explode if he tried). It's speculated that no other typical fire bender would try to redirect lightning since its essentially a water bending style technique, and they would look down on any other style of bending, given the nationalist nature of the Fire Nation at the time.
It was also in Zuko's favour that Azula was mid-breakdown when they fought. Zuko even mentioned this to Katara and he would have won the fight by himself if Katara hadn't been there for Azula to shoot lightning at.

In the fight with zuko and katara x azula, I feel like they won the fight bc she was unstable and crazy. I don't think zuko needed the double team and in fact I think that katara hindered him got him shot by lightning and stole his win 🤷🏽♂️ but thematically it works, it shows Zukos growth as a character as well as it gives him a scar to mirror Aang
Katara didnt throw an attack the whole fight until Zuko was taken out. She stood acting as witness since Zuko wanted to challenge his sister to a 1v1 duel.
Azula is a child and victim of abuse and psychological condition to bring out her worse traits. Azula was only ever praised or given affection when she was cruel or vicious by her father and especially praised if she tormented her brother. This lead her to view cruelty as just something normal and it got her what she wanted so it reinforced the bad behavior. Ozai raised her to be the perfect weapon an emotionless killing machine that only craves for his praise. Her mother noticed her bad behavior when she was little and tried to correct it but Ozai would always undermine it and eventually even her mother became afraid of her viciousness and cruelty but more so because she was being shaped into a monster by her father.
I never had a type growing up (still don't now), but ever since I was just a little dude coming home from school to watch Digimon on the telivision, I've been sooo into Tai. Not because of atraction or anything, but because of the sick-awesome goggles. Now that I've seen some more of both cartoons and anime, they've always been a thing, and they've always been super cool. I had exactly one crush growing up, and they were a real person who shared my birthday and some history, suck a wang playboys!

Also Netflix just released the live action adaptation of One Piece, I’ve only seen the first episode so far, but it is so so good. The eight episode season is available and might be a great opportunity to get into one piece.

So, I'm going to agree with Karl's broad point that the vs battle community does sometimes struggle to remember to account for aimdodging. It's a real and recognized problem, and Death Battle is notorious for doing research that's, shall we say, shoddier than the size of their platform would ideally imply. Zuko redirecting Azula's lightning is a bad example though. You can literally watch Zuko's arms moving half the distance of Azula's lightning on the very same frames, in exquisite slow-mo. Which works out to almost 20 km/s compared to the average speed of lightning which is 40 km/s. In general, by the way, the way you avoid issues with aimdodging confounding your feats is only using feats where the person explicitly starts dodging after the attack is launched (or where you have other information like the narrator directly stating the timings involved of course). For example in the Star Wars Special Edition DVD cut of A New Hope (the most current canon version of the film), Han starts dodging Greedo's blaster (which he couldn't see hidden under the table) at the moment it's fired, which works out to almost 10% of light speed. Or in Fantastic Four Annual #24 Mr. Fantastic only began to move to intercept some beams that had crossed interstellar distances in seconds when they were a meter from impact, moving over a dozen meters before they could impact, meaning he was moving billions of times light speed as an extreme lowball (there's a bunch of other contextual stuff suggesting infinite speed in that example). And then sometimes it's really ambiguous whether something is aimdodging or not. In One Piece chapter 485 for example, Zoro dodges Kuma's Pad Cannon in a way that on the surface looks like a clear example of moving only after the attack was fired, which would work out to about 4% of light speed due to the distances involved and the projectile being a light speed effect. However, Zoro has had Obervation Haki that allows him to read surface thoughts and determine an opponent's intended action since chapter 51 (and he talks about having awakened that power in chapter 195, and talks again about needing to train it in chapter 213, and in chapter 405 talks about using it to predict attacks; Haki is used way more in early One Piece than most fans realize), and so this creates an ambiguity where it's not clear if what Zoro was seeing was the incoming attack or his prediction of that attack, and thus I disregard the feat despite much of the community using it without issue (well, actually, I don't *entirely* disregard it because Luffy has a similarly fast feat that couldn't have been aimdodging 169 chapters earlier, so 4% of light speed should be well within Zoro's abilities by that point, but it's still at best relegated to being some marginal evidence for some scaling rather than being a valid feat). And don't get me started on using speed to derive power and vice versa, which *never* works. Seriously, just avoid calc stacking in all its forms. And yes, Karl, that means never concerning yourself with whether a given level of speed would imply sonic booms or collateral damage, because the fiction almost never cares about that kind of adherence to physics. For example Kizaru can explicitly kick at light speed in One Piece chapter 508 without the atmosphere undergoing nuclear fusion. And especially don't get me started on using multipliers (the number of people who fail to account for Ke=1/2mv^2 just because DBZ multipliers explicitly don't account for it in that series' specific context (Bleach fanboys are especially bad about this in my experience)...). Again, the vs debate community has a *lot* of issues, and while there are ways to resolve those issues, there are always newbs and scrubs who just don't know yet or refuse to learn or simply make mistakes (hell, I've been guilty of all three at various points).

I don't know what character informed my type(shorter red-heads), but yeah, Raven was my favourite between her and Starfire, as I just didn't like how up-beat Starfire was, but I preferred Ty Lee to Azula(still do as I find her more interesting), and I don't know why.
Marie kanker(blue hair), Raven(teen titan), Toph(atla), Sam(danny phantom), Vicky(fairly oddparents), frankie foster, Roxanne. So...goth, tomboy, or girl next door vibes. In anime of all sorts it was usually the second best girl, but one in particular was Yue Ayase from negima. She was like a mirror version in that she like me fr but genderbent.

By the time I had a steady tv connection I was already into anime...which reminds me...Misty!!! She started out annoying but eventually I had an ignorant and inexplicable at the time crush on her haha. It wasn't as obvious as my other faves, but in retrospect I definitely admired her, kind of a love hate type. She was abrasive to Ash, and that made me hate her but every other interaction made her more and more endearing. Then there's megaman and digimon, but it was much more shotgun with these. Some characters faded in and out of THE zone to the point I don't have a specific fave here. Then there's yugioh, tea wasn't a fave but some others def were.

Marie kanker(blue hair), Raven(teen titan), Toph(atla), Sam(danny phantom), Vicky(fairly oddparents), frankie foster, Roxanne. So...goth, tomboy, or girl next door vibes. In anime of all sorts it was usually the second best girl, but one in particular was Yue Ayase from negima. She was like a mirror version in that she like me fr but genderbent.

@@FloofyOneTorpheus I wasn't much of a KND fan so all the episodes I saw were out of order or skipped entire arcs. Cree does seem like a match though if I was able to keep up. By the time I had a steady tv connection I was already into anime...which reminds me...Misty!!! She started out annoying but eventually I had an ignorant and inexplicable at the time crush on her haha. It wasn't as obvious as my other faves, but in retrospect I definitely admired her, kind of a love hate type. She was abrasive to Ash, and that made me hate her but every other interaction made her more and more endearing. Then there's megaman and digimon, but it was much more shotgun with these. Some characters faded in and out of THE zone to the point I don't have a specific fave here. Then there's yugioh, tea wasn't a fave but some others def were.
