This video is like attending a master's class in banjo setup. Thanks, Chad!

Deering always good at explaining banjo. This guy in particular takes things through brilliantly, never rushed. A real asset to the company and customer alike.
Personally I would replace the bridge with the new Deering Smile bridge, they make a difference.

Hi Chad, I really enjoy your videos. They are very instructive and you explain the process very well and easy to understand.
I have a question - Is this process for the Calico the same as for the 40th anniversary model? (No tone-ring). Or is the setup different? I have 40th anniversary and setting it back up is proving difficult for me.
    Have a great day, 👍

Is it necessary to take everything apart, or is it possible to change the head with the rest of the banjo remaining in tact?

Hi Snap, its Jamie L. I asked Chad the same thing when we filmed this. his theory is that by removing everything, you start from scratch and you tighten things up the correct way. You also don't have the issue of a neck half hanging on to your pot, so if you have to lift it up or maneuver to get the fit right, it isn't in the way. You also don't have to worry about dropping it.
Chad has been here a long time and he swears he gets it done quicker and more accurately when taking everything off.

how do you know what kind of head to get as far as High, Medium or Low type? I like the REMO FIBERSKYN BJ1100-H5 11" HIGH CROWN BANJO HEAD but its offered in three sizes

+Ragu Spag Hi. we cant speak for every brand of banjo but as far as Deerings and Goodtimes go, here is the general rule of thumb:
Goodtime 11" Rim - High Crown
Goodtime 12" Rim - Medium Crown (Americana, Solana 6 etc)
Deering 11" Rim - Medium Crown
Deering 12" Rim - Low Crown.
You can visit the head section of our store and choose the crown you need. (www.deeringbanjos.com/collections/heads)
      Thanks!

Deering Banjo Company Can you make a 12 String Banjitar? I've always wanted a 12 String Banjitar for 12 String Banjitar versions of songs I like for example "Joyful Joyful" from Sister Act 2 cause it would really sound ideal in a Gospel Choir setting.

    • @DeeringBanjoCo

Once upon a time...we did. We made a 12-string version of our now discontinued Deluxe model. We only made a few over the years. We could probably make another under our custom program if it is something you are serious about.

@@DeeringBanjoCo Actually lots of 12 String Guitarists (even me) & Multi-instrumentalists would love a 12 String Banjitar cause they're super shimmery so you should make more of em again someday.
