I was there in Ruisrock 1975, Wishbone Ash were the headliner being the main reason for me getting there. I had only heard a couple of Rory Gallagher songs before this, but that evening he totally blew me away. I became a fan instanteniously. Wishbone ash were good but - sorry Wishbone Ash - Rory stole the show. Great intensity and improvisations. One of the best gigs I've ever experienced. Nice to see this clip, and first time I've seen it in colour!
Don't know how many comment I have heard through the years of people going to see a band with Rory as the "opener" and coming away just totally blown away.

I was tapping along, grovin' to the jam and imagining those big double kicks and I could not have been more wrong. Gotta watch this again. RIP Rory, you were amazing !!

I had the pleasure of seeing Rory twice in concert. Rory is by far the best live act I've ever seen, with the original Deep Purple running a very close second!
When this came out in the US, I heard it on Detroit rock radio, and went right out, bought the album, (Against the Grain) and have been a rabid fan ever since! RIP Mr. Rory, we all miss you….

Being able to see the likes of Johnny Winter and his bands, Rory Gallagher, Alvin Lee, James Marshall Hendrix, Stevie Ray and many more sharing and show their God Giving Talents. As much as their names are the face of their music, all the supporting bandmates that help bring it all together for us/me I give thanx of gratitude for their contributions and helping provide the joy of listen and memories of live music for our souls. Rory played Hordern Pavillion in Sydney of Feb. 5, 1975. Then he did 3 nights at The Capitol Theatre in Sidney in late June, 1980. Either of those venues ring a bell?
Hey. I've still got my ticket stubs ($10.90!) from the June 21st & 29th 1980 shows at the Capitol. Great, great performances. Can't remember which night it was but a guy from the crowd jumped up and started singing the chorus during "Shadow Play". When the roadie came out to get the guy (who was doing a pretty good job) off the stage, Rory stopped the roadie and let the crazy sing his heart out. Good times.

Rory in top gear! This Finnish rock festival is still going strong. Great setting by the sea and every now and then a big ship going between Finland & Sweden passes right next to the stage.
Rory Gallagher was so underrated. He was an incredible guitar player, an amazing songwriter and a great bluesman. Maybe he was underrated because he was not English or American.
Rory was not underrated. He was exactly where he wanted to be. He traveled constantly worldwide performing. He had a huge following, even here in USA.But he had been in the business since age 15 & learned quickly of the schemes & manipulations of the major music companies & wanted no part of it. He controlled his own music rights, productions, tours, etc. Back in that day our music came from the radio & accelerated from there. The big companies weren't able to cash in on his fame so they didnt promote him on the radio programs for the public to be aware of him. No internet back then. We heard about him anyway. He toured many times here in America. I saw him 1972 in N.Carolina at a big music festival. He was unbelievably awesome. Such a talent & so much energy. We miss him. Absolutely one of the greatest ever.
@@markoak916 Depends...who are u referring to? Rolling Stone magazine? They are a joke. Ever read their comments on Led Zeppelin when they were at their peak? The music media at that time was basically your radio, the rock magazines & the the tours that were being promoted. I was around then. This is exactly how it was. I can tell u Rory had a huge following here. No, u didn't hear him played or discussed on radio. But as I said, the music business here could not cash in on him. He controlled all his copyrights, everything. He learned the hard way with a manager from his band "Taste" in his early days of success. The guy was stealing all their money & lying to them to turn them against each other. So when u say "media" u are misled. Real music fans here knew him. We loved him & still do. He would not have continued to return to tour USA if it wasn't paying off for him.

Great performer. I always noticed how he smiled when he was playing. Like Eddie Van Halen, he really loved to perform for the audience .
