Hate Rodrigo basically is about her idolizing and loving an artist (in this case olivia) to the point of hating them cuz of jealousy, "why can't I be like you" "why are you so cool" "how can I be like you" that kind of vibe, but she was kind of in denial hence her saying "Im not jealous Rodrigo". In the end though she finally embraces the star inside her and actually admits that she actually aint jealous anymore.
To put it simply, the song is about embracing yourself by ending an obsession of trying to be like someone you aren't.
Yena rlly likes Olivia Rodrigo. The song is about Yena loving Rodrigo so much that shes like rlly jealous but in that way that she "hates" her bc she is way too good to be true and that she wants to be like her

Yeah, Yena's dark concept for 'Wicked Love' shocked me, too. I think she took some pointers from BiBi while they were making 'Smiley' together. WHAT A SWITCHAROUND from her normal happy-go-lucky style! That was AMAZING! It kind of had me asking 'Who hurt you?' And the guitar in the background along with the music-box rhythm in the front made this seem like a Creepy Circus or something. I think it was DreamCatcher worthy! I'm sure that everybody at DCC will love this!
Yena first caught my attention with Smiley but after I’ve watched HYEMILEEYECHAEPA she has easily become one of my top solo artist!!! ❤❤❤ Hate XX EP is a HIT!!!

Yeah Yena was the ace in Iz*One for a reason, which says something when you look at how talented some of the members in that group were (Yujin, Chaewon, Eunbi, Chaeyeon, etc.). You're going to love her in HyeMiLeeYeChaPa. She's a star on all those shows. Her Animal Detective series is hilarious and she was great on Kkura's show.
I find her B-sides to be better than her singles. Nothing against the singles but Pretty Boys > Smiley and Wicked Love > Hate Rodrigo.

From what I can tell Hate Rodrigo is about an admiration turned jealousy that she wanted to be like her, and the song is her realising she doesn't need to be jealous cause she's also a star now. Wicked Love is more my thing but both songs are great

My interpretation of "Rodrigo" is that she's a big fan and wishes she could be like Olivia - emulating her style and fashion.
But she's also a bratty teenager (the character she's playing) so she's sort of reluctant in telling people she likes OR.
She hides her fan pics of Olivia and is like "oh never mind that!". Then she meets Yuqi who's also a big fan of Olivia, and they bond over their love for her.
I read it as a tribute through the eyes of a bratty teen who's jealous of Olivia and wants to be exactly like her.
So she doesn't actually "Hate Rodrigo", quite the opposite; and I hope people see that. 😅
