- This is a receiver that is over 50 years old.
The circuit configuration mainly uses vacuum tubes.
It's a very old vintage radio, but the one that uses vacuum tubes has a nice, soft sound.
Since I was shooting during the day, I used the ALA1530s+ antenna, but it was a bit noisy, so a wire antenna might be better compatible with this receiver.
It's a shame that you can't listen to broadcasts from other countries because Chinese broadcasters monopolize Japan's daytime shortwave bands.
Love your scans across these radios; they seem to bring me back to another time. Technology has changed immensely. My first radio was somewhat like this one but not quite as nice. I had a Realistic DX 160. It was also a general coverage receiver with a 5 band main tuning system and a rather nice bandspread.
I had one of the HE-30 receivers when I first got my novice license. The darn thing had lots of drift and made it difficult to keep track of the station I was in QSO with. Saved my money and got a Drake 2B and never looked back.
Crazy eBay has two of these priced at over $1k. Your money isn’t worth anything these days. 😢
BTW have you measured the AC leakage from the chassis to earth ground, using a 10K 2w resistor and paralleled .1uf (RC Network)?
It is made to be used and to last. It is not a use and throw away product.
Hey Radio don't you like portable radios like the Tecsun PL330 or the Tecsun 990x? You always have those big radios like the Yaesu or Sommerkamps! Do you have a big house in Japan for all those big radios?
I'm glad that you watched the video.
These radios are stored in my remote warehouse.
At first, it was a warehouse with no place to set foot, but it has finally been organized.
I have several small shortwave radios, but their performance is so good that I feel a little unsatisfied with them.
