Karsten, don't forget to mention how symbolic the chop shop is. I really do think it brought a lot of people to light about the fact that major corporations rely heavily on child labor in poorer countries and showed how cruel greed can twist people's perception in reality. Eventually, victims of such crimes, like Rodney and Fender are bound to rise up. This stage of the movie also reminded me of the Russian and French revolutions how the poorer classes rise up against the monarchs and aristocrat in a violent way and I have no idea what the fuck I'm talking about.

I actually think it's an allegory for jail, since they just stick lower class "good-for-nothings" in there and jail in America is more like a business then anything (other than being a justice system ofc). To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Robots. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rodney’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Robots, truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rodney’s existential catchphrase “I’m gay,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Robin Williams’ genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
Barry Buzz Lightyear And yes, by the way, i DO have a Robots tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
Wow, thanks for calling my attention back to this movie. I re-watched it just now after about ten years since the last time, and I have to say, with the addition of you particular perspective towards its themes, this is quite the gem.
I know, it’s really weird. I even remember my mom taking me to see this when I was younger, and I also would watch this all the time on dvd and even had a huge Rodney action figure, yet I compleatly forgot this movie existed until like two weeks ago.
As someone who ADORED this movie while growing up (to the point where Rodney was my first fictional crush), this movie is still the best thing that came out of Blue Sky. Maybe followed by Peanuts but I will need to rewatch it one day.
Why Are You Dreaming About It When It Already Exists? It's Exclusive To A Thing Called Meth. You Try It, Then You Experience Robots 2005 In Live Action. It's Seriously Amazing.
I’m really happy you mentioned the political message of this movie but I would like to further analyze a little more. The robots in this movie are put in this paradise like location ‘Robot City’ which is pretty equivalent to our United States right now but with Ratchet (obviously referencing Donald Trump because the movie predicted the future amirite?) lures these Robots in to make them political sex slaves in their now North Korea esque dictatorship. The whole movie is a heartbreaking message for humanity saying “this is society we are now political sex slaves we have to rebel” The fart jokes in this movie too are full of meaning. I believe Aunt Fanny represents the common people who want to believe that they’re safe from all this and denying the fact that she’s a sex slave. Her farts are a symbol of letting that denial all out into the wind as she starts to slowly realize the situation. This is why her butt is so big. It’s so big because that’s how big her ego is with all this as well as her denial. There’s an amazing scene in which she lets out a huge fart that makes everything shake and that right there was visual storytelling of her finally coming to terms with everything. Easily the most tragic character in the film. You compare this film to Do The Right Thing but I don’t know if it’s anything like that. I like to think it lies more with films like Schindlers List or 12 Years a Slave in terms of the political danger that these characters are in and the true heartbreaking atmosphere of this world. Have you noticed Ewan McGregor can’t do an American accent to save his life? Especially in this movie? Well that’s because Rodney represents immigration in America and how they’re treated. He’s scared. He needs to HIDE everything. If he cracks, he pretty much fucks everyone over. He himself is in danger of becoming a political sex slave himself. There’s a lot to digest about Robots politically and it’s time we dive into this film analytically. Rodney is hot.
I loved this movie as a kid and still love it today! Thank you so much for doing a video on this fantastic movie!! It doesn't get enough recognition, which is sad because it's a *great* movie!
I think the thing that interests me about the film Robots is that the art direction was heavily inspired by children's book author William Joyce. Joyce is an extremely prolific creator (From George Shrinks to Rise of the Guardians), and is a huge influence for animators like myself. I always get excited when I discover he's working on a new book or film. It's actually been announced that he's currently working on his directorial debut for the film "The Extincts," and the concept art I've seen for it makes me excited for the film's release!
Thank you for saying something of such value! I remembered liking this movie and wasn't sure why except for the art style. I was halfway hoping this would be a sincere praising of the movie, but wasn't that surprised that it's just a 'talk about how good a movie is that you don't really think is good' joke. I expected a lot better from Runquist. Anyways I'm glad that after enough scrolling I could at least find the name of the artist.
This movie was my childhood. The world is so immersive, the visuals fantastic and imaginative, the music (which features the Blue Man Group) ranges from whimsical to dark and is a blast to listen to. This movie...I just love it so much.
After I saw this video, my heart was touched, and my life was transformed into a much happier state of mind. Rodney is my new celebrity crush, he's a total stud. This movie really reached and touched the hearts of a lot of kids with its progressive message. Wow Karsten, you really helped me and changed my entire life.

NO!!!!!
It’s both
There are some parts that really give it away but others seem like a real compliment.
Once he said robin Williams in rv was a good role
I know this town like the back of my hand.
Hey, that's new...
*GETS ANNIHILATED BY HAMMER*
I honestly completely forgot that this movie even existed.
Cheezus Mice that would make a great buzz feed article title
I know, it’s really weird. I even remember my mom taking me to see this when I was younger, and I also would watch this all the time on dvd and even had a huge Rodney action figure, yet I compleatly forgot this movie existed until like two weeks ago.
0:34 *says Rachet
*Shows his mom
Ok
Clearly not as IQ as we thought
Wouldn't mind his RODney
lmaoooo *dead*
Your fucking username
He needs to stick his Rodney in my Copperbottom
I think about this video every day
Hey, but this movie is good, well in a strange way.... when I was 10 I loved this movie. I used to watch it 3 times for week ...
Robots is so good, it changed the film industry forever.
GET UP OFFA THAT THANG
The moment I read this comment the music started lol
As someone who ADORED this movie while growing up (to the point where Rodney was my first fictional crush), this movie is still the best thing that came out of Blue Sky. Maybe followed by Peanuts but I will need to rewatch it one day.
Just here dreaming about a live-action robots...
Why Are You Dreaming About It When It Already Exists? It's Exclusive To A Thing Called Meth. You Try It, Then You Experience Robots 2005 In Live Action. It's Seriously Amazing.
This has touched my heart and inspired me to dust off my dvd case of Robots, and watch it for the good old times.
Holy shit, this video is amazing. Also, I had that exact same Rodney plush toy, so thanks for that nostalgia
Idk why but “It made me gay” just killed me 😂
I’m really happy you mentioned the political message of this movie but I would like to further analyze a little more.
The whole movie is a heartbreaking message for humanity saying “this is society we are now political sex slaves we have to rebel”
The fart jokes in this movie too are full of meaning.
You compare this film to
Do The Right Thing but I don’t know if it’s anything like that.
What?
yo chill socrates it's just a movie
Trump2020
Go back to Parler, we don't care for uneducated individuals
What
This movie's a part of my childhood!
finally someone who shows Robots the recognition it deserves
For the first 7 years of my life this was the only dvd I owned. ( that was rated pg, we had more James Bond movies than trump has supporters
this spoke to me on another level
What’s wrong with Robots?
Am I missing something?
the fart jokes
nothing it's just a cinematic masterpiece
I wonder if this guy likes Robots
Some people were mad at you because of the Call Me By Your Name video but I'd say this one redeems you 600%
After I saw this video, my heart was touched, and my life was transformed into a much happier state of mind. Rodney is my new celebrity crush, he's a total stud. This movie really reached and touched the hearts of a lot of kids with its progressive message. Wow Karsten, you really helped me and changed my entire life.
Getting some heavy Ralphthemoviemaker vibes from this
I saw that movie 1 time in theaters when it came out and I loved it! I never saw it again, but I had the soundtrack CD in my Dad's car, and it was the only thing we would listen to on roadtrips for months. I love the sound track so much
This is very random
Taedrem oh yeah yeah
oh, yes indeed
Everytime you see that prof pic, you know theres an “oh yeah yeah” I LOVE IT
@@dotaro3741 Unfortunately, he has changed his profile pic to the colour blue. This is truly a very sad event. R.I.P 1 oh yeah yeah, you will be missed
Huh, so it turns out I’m not the only person who remembers this movie
"Never try, never fail" - Illumination studios (yes, I know it's Blue Sky).
I will say, I do love the character design for this film.
Bunny in the Box
Yep, that's Illumination in a nutshell 😂 😂 The character designs were really cool though, I especially like Rachet's design.
so this is what i sound like when i’m drinking and trying to talk about movies
Gay for Rodney Copperbottom
Ok, but there’s a drum, and it’s alive, and he expresses pain whenever he is hit, that is pure comedy.
Also does anyone else think this guy looks just like Ansel Elgort?
anni yes!!!
Nope, he looks like James Franco and Ralphthemoviemaker had a son.
Prototype I can see that but I stand by my point. Ralphthemoviemaker is just another guy who looks like Ansel Elgort.
I got James Franco/Ben Schwartz vibes from him, but I see where you’re coming from!
Heather Power I agree, he does have a Ben Schwartz thing going on
'Robots (2005) made me gay'
-Karsten Runquist (2018) (Paraphrased)
Finally somebody else agrees with me
I came out of 2005
Yeah I totally agree robots was the best thing to happen that year
jacksfilms whomst? there's a new shitposter in town
Bean and I thought jacksfilms was the shitpost god
Robots was actually the first movie I ever saw in theaters, so it DEFINITELY changed my life for the better
You look like Robby Copperbottom. So you're halfway there.
Someone's been drunk YouTubing...
Mean Bean Productions it’s RODNEY Copperbottom. Don’t EVER disrespect an icon like that
I'M SO SORRY!! Truth is, I was the one who was drunk YouTubing. It won't happen again, I swear!!
This movie is so underrated. I love it! And Still have the DVD to this day!

My first experience of Robots is when my Nan filmed it in the cinemas. I don't even feel bad
Mid 2000s animated pantheon
Robots, Open Season, Surfs Up, and the ultimate masterpiece of Monster House
I absolutely adore this movie. My siblings and I can quote it word for word and can also sing all the music in it on cue. It’s so slept on
Fucking finally! recognition for this masterpiece
I love this Movie and Rodney Copperbottom is one of my Favorite Characters.
thank you for giving Robots (2005) the recognition it deserves. truly a masterpiece, that could only be compared, maybe, to the visually stunning Shark Tale (2004)
Honestly, and I'm not even kidding, I LOVED this film. The designs, certain scenes and just a lot of other things. I also loved the cover of the box I had. No idea why.
