I was looking for an easier one than the couple of ones I've been using. This looks like a good alternative. Leave a few in the river for me!

Cool pattern for those high mountain streams. Thanks for sharing your technique.

Wow! Not kidding about super easy! I will be tying some of these right away! A little floatant on that poly yarn and it will float all day. You could also add a tiny foam under body to help with buoyancy. Best yet, I don't have to order materials I don't have, that's always a bonus!

Definitely try wrapping some 1 mm foam for the body. Works like a charm!

I like tying a light tan Spruce Moth out of buck tail. In sizes 10-16..

Never break off your thread at the head. That fly will come undone.

Suggestion: Get a Matarelli whip finisher.

I enjoy using a whip finisher sometimes depending on the fly. Thanks for the suggestion!

you're tying on larger hooks. everyone around here reccomends 16 to 20. I didn't think they'd be so small.

We use other patterns in those smaller sizes. This fly fishes best in the range recommended. The little yellow stoneflies here in the Smokies range seasonally from a larger #10 or #12 all the way down to #20 or smaller, so be sure and carry a variety of flies to meet the situation for the time of year you are fishing. Thanks for stopping by!

May through October here in the Smokies with an emphasis on the earlier months...

These along with the lime sallies usually appear in my area after the golden stones finish, mid/late July into August.
