    What studio Monitor size(s) are you using in your studio?

      I use Dynaudio BM5 MKIII with 7 inch woofer and 1.1 inch tweeter. Each monitor has 100W RMS and a Frequency range from 42 to 24000 Hz.

      Naumann KH120s in an 8x14’ room. Hoping they’re adequate. Thanks Warren! 👍🏻

      Tannoy DMT 15 MK2 in a 17ft by 16ft room. Beautiful Quality. Cone size is important when it comes to low frequencies. Doesn't need to BE loud to hear the full range

      Conversely if my room is "too small" i expect smaller drivers are preferable as bass can have problems with room nodes?

      I recently got a pair of Kali LP-6 2nd wave that I like a lot. Used Tannoys, Haflers, Blue Sky, Adam Audio in the past.

    Was a little early in the morning for me watching this. My mind went to screen size of a computer monitor for productivity 😅

    I got the Kali LP 8s based on your recommendations and have never been happier. Clean, professional sounding mixes (practice didn't hurt , either).

    What advice do you have for people working at home in less than ideal rooms (sound treatment, monitors, positioning, etc.)?

    I put a PA system in my Live Room to show things loud. My control room is small, so my monitors are smaller in there for accurate mixing.

    I have Sceptre S8 and the Kali 12" sub. That setup rocks, and will play club-loud if need be. Cheers from Sonic Peak Studio

    The size of the speaker doesn't matter at all if you got a subwoofer to support it (which you should anyways). Only requirement is to be flat to 80Hz and the Subwoofer can take it from there. So even a good 4-inch driver is plenty and can (and probably will) sound better than only using 10 inch drivers.

    6 inch monitors but I have a 10 inch subwoofer for low end.

    I’ve ways said the speakers ( in my case as an end user ) should fit the room .
    A larger room isn’t going to present sound with bookshelf speakers the same way..as opposed to a larger set of speakers in the same environment.

    I've heard a lot of people say the speakers won't matter if you're in a bad room, but unfortunately for people working at home the room is often far less than ideal, and sound treatment options are limited. How do you address that situation?

      It's not limited at all, there are a million ways to diy acoustic absorption. Use Google my guy, the answers are everywhere around you

      Do you find you need a matching Kali sub or the 6” is enough (for most music)?

    • @ashtaylor5236
      @ashtaylor5236 5 месяцев назад

      @@progression_decibel a sub isn't practical for me right now and tbh I find I'm endlessly tweaking a sub if I have one. LP6's are pretty decent in the low end, but I would also recommend referencing/mixing on Apple Ear buds and Sennheiser HD600's as well. I've also found best results ditching monitoring controllers and ensuring I'm using the direct outs of my Apogee Element with a digital volume control.

      @@progression_decibel For some reason my last reply didn't save.
      I find I end up tweaking sub's a lot and the LP6's provide decent low end. I use and would recommend using Apple Ear Buds and Sennheiser hd600 headphones in addition to the LP6's. The Apple Ear Buds are especially good for me when dialing in boomy subs.
      I also found better results using direct outs on my Apogee Element and using Apogee control to attenuate the volume. I used the M-Patch 2 for like 10 years and discovered it was degrading the audio and the headphone amp wasn't great either. Both Apogee Element and UA Apollo are amazing bits of kit.

      @@progression_decibelI‘d say it’s enough for a lot of music, really depends.
      They don’t provide much information below 50Hz.
      It’s sufficient for the rock mixes I do.
      Of course, like Warren suggests, a 8-10“ woofer would be better, but those are also more expensive.

    Would the Naumann KH120s be suitable for an 8x14’ room? I think they’re 5.5” speakers. Thanks! 👍🏻

  • @jujuUK68
    @jujuUK68 6 месяцев назад

    More importance is the impedance - how easy are the drivers to power? What are the dynamics of the speaker like? The best speaker is a tiny, crappy car speaker - because then you know how the mix will sound when 90% of people are listening to the mix, rather than the 1% of audiophiles with £500+ speakers and a big pre/power amp.

  • @samchoate1719
    @samchoate1719 Год назад

    Quality of the speakers is monumental here. Many higher end two way speakers are 6.5” and those will end up sounding wayyyy better than a cheaper 8” speaker like a JBL or Yamaha. So don’t be afraid of going with some focal or Neumann 6.5” if they’re in your budget. They’ll sound deeper and be much clearer than those more affordable 8” drivers.

    There is some guy, who wants wo be a audio teacher, who said: big drives in small rooms are bad, because the wavelength can't spread, and therefore it does not make sense in a small room. Plus you can't absorb low frequencys. I think this is not true. Especially if the Wave can't spread, there won't be enough energy. Supersonic and pressure may won't be that big of a deal.

    You have this backwards, at least in part. The irony is, larger speakers throw a tighter "beam" of sound, smaller speakers throw a wider one. If you want the widest on-axis response (like for a group of people to hear) then you want smaller speakers. Yes, bigger speakers can get louder, but you can just crank up the volume on smaller speakers instead, and get the best on/off axis frequency response. This is all information you can easily fact check! Read up on speaker driver off axis response as it pertains to size. Read about how the theoretical ideal speaker is an infinitely small "point source."
