This happened in the sports card industry after the leak during COVID. Stores that used to get 2-3 cases (24-36 boxes) started getting 2-3 boxes total if they were lucky.
Maybe pokemon should stop printing a new set every 2.5 months to give them more leadway on a set. Its already hard enough to keep up for the average collector.
One thing I barely hear people mentioning or making the connection is that Pokemon Pocket TCG mobile app has had 60 million downloads in like a month? This has brought back at least a few million people into collecting physical cards. Pokemon was already printing at 100% capacity for the amount of factories they have. It can take up to two years for pokemon to open more factories, if they decide to at all. So with new organic demand of millions of people combined with scalpers, investors, and random shops everywhere? These ETBs could hit $250 or even $300 within a month after release. I know this sounds bonkers but there simply isnt enough for everyone so the price will keep up and break records of all kinds.
i started investing heavy after hearing rumors of the new game and see it had to do with collecting cards ....instantly went and bought 8 fusion strike booster boxes I'm sitting nice now ahahah

I believe there's some misinformation being spread. As someone who works with distributors, suppliers, etc, I have a little better understanding of what's happened with the allocation of PE. Pokemon did NOT print enough. Local stores were very greedy than normal. Let's say a "SPORTS CARD" store that "dabbles" in pokemon usually orders a case of the products they know will sell, well with PE they ordered 10-20 cases. This also goes with local pokemon shops that typically order 10, now they want 20-30. There just isn't enough to go around for EVERYONE. If you ordered early through the bigger chains like Pokemoncenter, Gamestop, etc, u should be fine. If you ordered through local shops and online stores that literally can cancel on u with no reason just to sell it at a higher price, then now u know not to trust them. Why do u think it was still available a week or two latee for pre orders from these places? It's bc ppl like me already ordered their fill from the main affiliated stores that get the most numbers. We won't buy from, "Johnies Shiny Loots, or Grumpy Al's online world of FUN, or Bob's Sports collectibles!" Why? Bc I don't trust they will meet the number they ordered. If these guys who typically never order more than say 50 ETB's suddenly order 5000, then ya chances are 80% of u will be phucked! My question is, if u are an adult, amd you've experienced this before, why are we just now coming out and crying about this like u had NO IDEA this would happen?! And WHY are so many misinformed youtubers creating these cringe videos? After PE, everything will go back to normal with under hyped poor sets like Stellar Crown, Shrouded Fable, etc.. Prismatic Evolutions is that once in a generation set. Think 151 x Evolving Skies, x Team Up, and multiply it by infinity. Not every set will create this sort of demand! Relax! There will be PLENTY from Target, Walmart, Barnes, Gamestop, Beat Buy, etc! Now, it won't sit for days. So you'll have to plan accordingly to score product! Here's a tip. Walmarts ALWAYS stock when they normally do during the week. If u know your store stocks on a Tuesday, Wednesday, etc do NOT think it will stock on Friday! Check it on the day it normally stocks. Take off, camp there, whatevef it takes. And buy what u can. It's that easy!
Yeah you should of seen the massive walmart drop about a week ago. Gone in less than 5 mins. Then smoke and mirrors drop. 15 seconds. Several other shops as well under 1-2 mins.
What arent people getting??? There is no booster boxes for this set. People as usual want to rip it like a normal set. The numbers dont add up. The rippers on what not or whatever need the packs so its gonna be scarce and more scarce than say surging sparks.
So glad I pre-order 20 ETB way back November 7 I got all of them for $49.99 on GameStop 10 walk-in and 10 online and 10 tech sticker collection 14.99 each annnnnd GameStop took the money today so now I know I’m getting it
You are right in that it might never get to MSRP. Fair enough. I can, however, guarantee that ETBs won't hold at $150 a box. They are going to try to reprint this set to the ground because the demand is so wild. Depending on how long this bull market holds, you might have to settle for $60-80 an ETB, but that's still way better than the current prices. And product is going to be released nearly every month for this set. You're likely going to be able to pick up a decent amount if you don't waste your whole budget on the initial release.
Honestly I love opening packs but ita getting so hard too find packs of new sets like surging sparks I only opened two packs and I haven't seen it in store for over a month I would recommend buying cheaper singles or Japanese

It should only be the quick flippers that are Salty.

Whats even more fascinating to me is whats going to happen to reprints in general. I think Pokemon would like to reprint a bunch of sets from Scarlet and Violet. Like 151, Twilight Masquerade, Paldea Evolved and Surging Sparks but when? If the printers are tapped out with demand this high I dont think any of the early Scarlet and Violet sets are getting large reprints maybe ever. I picked up Obsidian Flames and SV Base Booster boxes 2 weeks ago based on that. Theyre both up about 15% in those 2 weeks.
Yep, ive been saying this for a while now. How are they supose to reprint the past sets ontop of printing enough of the new hype sets like battle partners/team rocket? They aint got the printer space for all of it, hence why I think the people saying prismatic will be "printed to ground" are in for a rude awakening.
Only the dummies think they can wait it out and think prices are going to come down man I don’t care how much they print how much they put on shelves it’s not going to last an hour it’s not going to last minute it’s going to be gone little Timmy will never get a box or even a sticker collection
The working theory is that people who already spend a lot of money with the distros for sports cards are now requesting pokemon product. I think that makes sense because if you're the distributor and you have a store that normally spends 100k a month with you on sports cards, you're going to want to keep them happy as well. That and all the rip and shippers starting LLCs and setting up wholesale accounts. There's too many mouths to feed
