- Three steam trains in one day - even at Carlisle, that's a rare occurrence - one not be missed.
70000 Britannia is due to bring The Lakelander in from Leicester, closely followed by 34067 Tangmere with the Settle and Carlisle Steam Special from Liverpool. Originally intended for the Cumbrian Coast line, this has had to be rerouted because of the derailment and track collapse at Grange-Over-Sands.
A train of Central-Door-Locking fitted coaches is heading for Crianlarich en-route to Fort William to enable West Coast Railways to run a daily Jacobite service while their unfitted Mark ! coaches are banned by the Office for Rail and Road. This is expected to be Black Five hauled.
Sadly, the weather forecast for the day is awful - fierce winds (no drone today!) and heavy rain, so the day will have to be spent under the station roof.
To add to the fun, I'm without a car - so an early bus into town and an expensive taxi back home at the end of the day. What we do for our art!
Love your films. Tim, we like the way you tell us what is happening.
I have regular viewers as far afield as Argentina and New Zealand who certainly won't be familiar with Cumbria/Dumfries and Galloway - and I'm sure that's equally true of many in the south of England - so I try to keep them informed. If the truth must be told, I'm just an old schoolmaster who can't get out of the teaching habit! Best wishes to you.
good clear narration nicely presented
Thanks a lot
Great to see thre steam locos today Tim, Britannia being the favorite of the day, what a shame it has problems, yes a great getaway with tangmere making a nice departure, you are going to be busy tommorow too, cheers Steve . 👍
Nae rest for the wicked!
Another very enjoyable video Tim, Britannia would be the only engine that would tempt me back to Carlisle again for a bit of train spotting. So hopefully the problems are not too severe and she will return later in the year. Took some photographs of the new bridge on Saturday afternoon and toyed with the idea of going along today to see it installed hopefully but glad I made the right decision and stayed home, but have seen it today and it looks very impressive. One of these days John - one of these days! Just about to dash off to Dumfries to catch the train to Carlisle - and hopefully see the new footbridge. Best wishes.
Thanks for some great content Tim, it will be a long time before you can repeat this again. The train carriages are beautifully presented on both charters, thanks so much for sharing.😁😁😁
Three in one day. It has happened before but not for a long time. The charter trains are always beautifully turned out. I didn't catch it on film (Les Gilpin did on his video of the day) but one of the northbound Avanti Pendolinos actually had a broken window!
There is actually 3 (kind of 4) steam locos in Carlisle tommrow! 3 on the Great Britain tour and Britannia is being taken back to Crewe!
@@TRAlNVlDEOS I believe that Britannia is going back quite late. Since I'm without a car at present I won't be able to stay for that - but I'll get the other three!
@@schoolshorts Yes it is, I’m hoping to see it but it might be getting a bit dark at Upperby by the time the diesel arrives
Great stuff Tim. Good to see so many steam engines at Carlisle. 😊
Thanks Euan. A long day but well worthwhile.
Thank you Tim - a fascinating day with fine photography and superb clarity - much appreciated from a former frequent visitor to Carlisle 🤩
- - and thank you Martin. Let's hope it brings back some happy memories.
Very good day at Carlisle apart from britannia running hot. If I had known about the jacobite stock going up, I'd probably go to Lockerbie for it. I wasn't sure what time the footbridge was going in. All I had been told is that it was today, so they started about 7 o'clock at night and got two big cranes in to do the job but at around 8 o'clock the heaven's open and everything was soaking wet so I didn't stay to watch it going in overnight. But I returned in the morning to find it all in place with the lifts as well.
I'll be back at Carlisle tomorrow so will have to get some footage of the new bridge then. The heavens opened at Carlisle at 5 p.m. - hail as well as rain - the noise on the station roof was incredible.
@schoolshorts Indeed, Tangmere to Carlisle and then 44871 and 45407 with 47812 I believe on the rear of the train to Glasgow, which is actually passing though Dumfries and not Lockerbie for a change! Another good day for trains !
@@jimmystransportmarvels8815 I had intended to film it between Thornhill and Sahquhar but without a car it's just not possible. So - Carlisle yet again.
Excellent video and a great day at Carlisle for varied traffic. I was at the ELR for their Western Region event
Thank you. Hope you had a good day and the weather wasn't too unkind to you.
Same here but i legged it down to Cherry tree and ramsgreave after
Great video, well done Tim!
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it.
Done well to capture all that Tim at a busy Carlisle. Shame about 70000. Will it ever stop raining.🌧👍
Thanks David. Rain? The heavens opened at 5 o'clock just after I'd packed all my kit away - hail as well as rain - the noise on the station roof was unbelievable.
Fine footage Tim.
Thank you.
Good to see that you got Les in shot. He has some fancy bags!
Every film needs a major star!!!
Thank you Tim. Good reportage - I subscribe. I was a passenger on the Lakelander so somewhat disappointed to lose Britannia at Carlisle but the trip up Shap was good.
Thank you and welcome aboard! Yes, the loss of Britannia was a great disappointment but - alas - these things happen. Being rather older than Britannia, I understand all too well the problems that inevitably come with age. Let's hope she's back with us again soon.
Spam can at a wet Carlisle… queue the Paul Simon song slip sliding away 🚂
It wouldn't be a Spam Can without the odd slip - very well handled, I thought, given the circumstances.
An eventful day!
Wasn't it just!!
Interesting to see a different view of the day! I only realised later that I'd been told early on (well it was implied) that Britannia was going to be left at Upperby.
I did not know about the black 5 either Would of been good seeing the rare sight of 3 steam locomotives, I had a good day out looking around the new Clan class and B17 at the works open day. A weekend with many things going on. I hope you got your hat back, looks like you will need it with all the rain forecast.
A good day despite the sad end to Britannia's run. I hope I live to see the Clan in action - to my mind the best looking of all the BR Standards, even though I never saw one in real life. Darlington was outside their territory.
Yes, I recovered my hat on the following Monday - quite unharmed.
@@schoolshorts Having not seen one myself I really wanted to see this one. From what I have read they were well liked and as one of the display notes said another batch was planned, of which Hengist was to be the first, then the modernisation plan put an end to that idea. Good to know no hats were harmed during the making of your video :)
18:42-19:44 thats me with the denim jacket and green Boba Fett bag.
- - trust you had a good day.
well tim top film footage and the britainia team where right to withdraw her from service you have over 3 million pounds of locomotive and there is only two exsamples of this locomotive we do wish there were more but we are where we are so they have look after a 73 year old locomitve
Thank you. Yes indeed, we all hope to see 70000 in action for many years to come.
