No defence, no DM, all three 10's aging out and slowing down, Foden's non-position is inconsistent and just happens to be failing this season.
when you clocked Cruyffs 343 diamond i got gassed
You’ve come a long way in your understanding bro! 😅 12:12
Most similar creators would have looked at that and seen a bunch of players on one side of the field and nothing else
city this season are genuinely looking like ten hags united last season lmao, he kept insisting on that 3-1-6 attacking formation for so long
You know he was targeted for that because his team was performing poorly right? The same tactic is used by liverpool, totenham, city, etc. They would just make far more mistakes in the attacking third and give away transitions.
@@fzlagges5849 its common in prolonged attacks where the entire opposing team is contained in an extremely low block but building up that way with a back 3 and a single pivot is far from common. only rodri has shown to be able to perform in that role consistently at a high level the past few years
except ten Hag's United, even at their absolute worst, didn't have as bad a losing/drawing streak as Man City is having at the moment
@@LeafGreen906 It is not a *tactic* for prolonged attacks(it just occurs when teams are trying to overload the box). It is used to breakdown low blocks or in must win games, or when you are trying to win from behind. Also united never used 3-1-6 in buildup, they used either a 3-2-5, 3-3-5(with onana as the center in defense 3), or even a 4-4-2 this season, they would just transition from these structures into 3-1-6 at the wrong moment and give away the ball.
You are correct in that Pep's diamond 3-4-3 harkens back to Cruyif's and Van Gaal's Ajax and Barcelona formation's of the late 80s and 90s.
Was always odd when everyone called Pep a genius for putting stones in the midfield to make a box/diamond when its literally Cruyffs system that Pep himself played in! Aha. Peps a genius for sure but not for this
@danielmcgrath680 Yeah, there is a very direct line of continuity between the tactics of this Manchester City team's tactic and Ajax through Barcelona.
This is nearly the same system Ajax was using back in 95 when they won the UCL against Milan.
@danielmcgrath680 Didn't it Rinus Michels also who was Cruyfs coach at Barca and the Nationalteam. Cruyff said before his dead in I think 2016? that Rinus Michels was the most influential coach for Barca ever - he was Cruyffs coach and mentor at Barca and also at the Nationalteam. And Cruyff was the mentor of Guardiola. So Michels - Cruyff - Guardiola. But Cruyff said after Peps time at Barca that Michels is still the biggest Genius in football history
@@sehu1291 Yes but Cruyff definitely popularized it. Ajax's '95 UCL used Cruyffs system from when he was manager and obviously that Barca side too
@danielmcgrath680 Michels coached also Ajax with an similar style. Michels was Cruyfs coach everywhere. At Ajax, at the Nationalteam in the WC final and at Barca. And Rinus Michels won 1988 the only title for the Netherlands in the Euros. Ajax won the CL with an similar style as Michels won the Euros 1988 with the Netherlands and Michels stars at the Nationalteam made Milan to the best team in the world at the first half of the 90s. Michels was awarded as Fifas best Coach of the century in 1999. He is for sure levels above Cruyff and maybe as good as Guardiola. But pressing inventend the Austrian Ernst Happel who reached the WC final with the Netherlands in 1978 and won the Cl/European Cup with Rotterdam (as first dutch club in 69) and with the Hamburger SV in the 80s. So Guardiola is a mix of Happel/Michels/Cruyff
Certain players at Man City have aged out (Walker's not the same guy, Gundogan's legs are gone, KDB isn't the KDB of 2/3 years ago) and Pep's made some daft decisions, the whole Kalvin Phillips saga, selling Cole Palmer (they could've had a midfield of Rodri, Foden and Palmer, but he sold Palmer to Chelsea) and Rodri got hurt, Rodri papered over so many cracks in that team, the last few years Pep's made some bad decisions in the transfer market (Matheus Nunes isnt a Pep player, Jack Grealish for £100m, Jeremy Doku isnt the player a lot of us thought he was, Gvardiol, always has a mistake in him) and now we're seeing it on the pitch
12:48 another point to mention besides the room you leave defensively is how compact it is offensively. Haaland score half the goals for the team and is not the best in close spaces, his strength is having room to make runs and you take it away pushing so high up.
The Man City situation looks very similar to the Liverpool centrre back situation 3 years ago
Always nice to see your videos luke
this is the definitive proof that PLAYERS are more IMPORTANT than TACTICS
The thing is, you need to use tactics that suit the available players, not tu use your own tactics and force the available players to do it.
Many teams don't play with a REAL DM, one example is Liverpool who plays Gravenberch and Mac Allister (not a defensive mid) in that position. But the tactics are suit them well so that's not quite a problem.
@@throtttlebody yes, but rich clubs buy the players to fit the coach's tactics (for me thats a mistake)
Pep always says so.
Dude you should watch some Serie A, this year it's very tactical and competitive
I’ve been meaning to recommend Football Made Simple to you, he’s one of the best football analysts on here, he’s certainly my favorite. I’m glad you found him👍 You should check out more of his videos especially the “The greatest match in Premier League history”, it’s such an amazing video. Also check out Four Four Two and James Lawrence Allcott, they’re great too
The CM position is the most important in football. No team since 2006 won a CL, WC or Euro without an worldclass no 8. Or at least an worldass performance of an no 8 during the tournament (Sanchez, Jorginho). It's not hard to find an good striker, but players like Rodri, Kroos, Busquets, Kante, Xavi, Xabi Alonso and so on are almost impossible to find and they are the metronom of their team. The most important position in modern football without any doubt.
In Manchester City's last 11 games, Tottenham have won more games than City have. This also applies to Ruben Amorim with Sporting Lisbon and Man Utd.
And all other 18 premier league teams have better points per game in that time too
I personally don't think Our win against City was a big result, neither team showed quality, irrespective of reputation of either teams, City made very avoidable mistakes, I know Amorim has taken this season for analyse and building the setup, but the next game, going out of a cup competition against Spurs for me in unacceptable, especially after ten Hag managed 2 trophies in 2 years, I am definitely not one of those who underestimate proper domestic trophies (not including community shield). Despite all the silvertongue charm as opposed to ten Hag's simpleton limitation with language, he still has to show grit in cup runs with this team, and only time will tell how he performs in terms if silverware.
But Cruyff said after Peps time at Barca that Michels is still the biggest Genius in football history
city’s problems go way deeper than missing rodri
@@zrzky people are over reacting, pep is just bored of winning so much that's all, you" d be bored too 😂
@@Bright259 pep is literally self harming himself over his loses, he's not just bored of winning. that's cope.
@oneshak what more does he have to win? Why aren't the others winning since he arrived? When you say "cope" it sounds like projection
Pep has earned the right to have a alright season, what club do you support? Why can't you guys win it for almost a decade now? Pls stop😂
@@Bright259 it's his job to win, he takes it personally which is why he's constantly self harming on live tv while city is being beat by everyone, he even came out and said it's a tough period for the club, and he doesn't know what to do to fix it as of now. He's hasn't randomly decided to go 1 win in 12 matches for the 'fun' of it.
@@Bright259 Cheating your way to titles isn't impressive...
Pep can't adapt and this never happened before, he can't handle or fix it in quick time, he need buy more players as he always do.
this my friend is why Pep does not sit at the same table as the Fegursons, shankly, Mourinho, Ancelloti etc - these guys could and have won with average squads whilst Pep... He only does it with unlimited funds and getting all the best players - he has never been able to do it any other way.
He didn't invest much with barcelona and bayern. They had great players but some of them he helped get there from a young age.
With city he hardly bought big names apart from haaland.
Who knew rodri or ruben diaz, and plenty of others.
Ferguson didn't win for years until he, just like guardiola at barcelona, got a great midfield from the youth ranks.
He still had to buy stam, cole and yorke. Well established top players.
For his second great team it's all about spending big money and buying top talent and big names.
He bought vd sar, evra, vidic, ferdinand, carrick, rooney, tevez, ronaldo, berbatov.
Conclusión: Rodri es una máquina
There is a few more issues, but this season was supposed to be the start of rebuilding. City has a lot of past stars who have dipped in form because of age and/or will be their last season at the club.
People like Kyle Walker, KDB, Bernardo Silva. Kyle Walker has been in awful form since last season, and has only gotten worse. KDB is aging and this will probably be his last season at City, while Bernardo has been wanting to leave for a while and he isn't the player he was in previous seasons, more of a squad option instead of a starter.
Those were known problems before the season started, and yet City didn't sign anyone. On top of not signing a Rodri alternative.
So basically City has a DM issue, which they already knew and could've signed someone and didn't.
City has a RB issue, which they already knew and could've signed someone but didn't.
City has a creative issue, which they already knew KDB is injury prone and aging so he wouldn't start every game even if he was fit, and they already knew that.
City lacks physicality, they need LEGS and people who can run in the middle. The reason why, besides the two goals that were dumb mistakes, they only conceded one big chance in the game versus United is because Nunez was playing left back and would go into the midfield. He chased down people like a madman, and so did Doku.
Man City has no player regeneration that can match the quality of the first-team players. KDB and Gundogan are already old. Gvardiol is also strange; he's a center-back, but his offensive skills are better than his defensive ones. Doku and Grealish can't be relied on, their quality is just average
selling palmer and alvarez is bad decision
You're still in both the cups, so Ange could still lift a trophy this season.
Get past United in the League Cup QF on Thursday and you're another step closer.
we all have injeries, liverpool have had the best keeper in the world out for most of the season sofar
How did you not think of rodri being out? 😭
Stay humble eh 😂
Celtic won the cup final on Sunday aswell all the good guys doing well things u like to see
master tactition my arse checkbook manager
Are you a dallas mavericks fan
bs spend billions on a squed but miss one player
Pep isn’t a good coach. My dead grandma could win the treble with prime Messi or a couple bundesligas with Munich.
Learn , Adapt and overcome. (First btw)
They need to lose more
People seem so happy at city failings, it's the same reaction when the bully finally gets beat up, pep had every manager in a choke hold for almost 2 decades, I am no city nor pep fan but I can't lie, the man is simply the goat, I personally think he's just bored from winning so much, 6 premier leagues 4 of them back to back to back, pep is taking a season off 😂
Fr lmao. EVERYBODY is hate watching City right now. That’s a compliment to Pep.
@insertnamehere1792 arsenal is my team, so you already know no one hates him more than me but I have never ever seen a better tactician, he's 100 % the goat, he's insane 😂
🤣🤣.. go to another sport lil bro. Even thinking pep is the goat shows your lack of football IQ. He ain't even top 5 currently & nowhere near top 5 of all time.
He's only ever joined teams that are the worlds favourite with no odds to face all season round. The most odds he's ever faced is playing against Madrid with Messi not at 100%, thats it!
Let him try what Ferguson done with Aberdeen, Jose At Porto, Ranieri At Leicester or Xabi At Leverkusen. He would never take that risk of being exposed
All he done was steal Cruyffs tactics & implement it into world class teams. So just stop.
"His bored of winning" ok buddy 😂
@United_Wings you would be bored too, where's the competition? Finally teams apart from arsenal are daring to challenge him, let's just enjoy it before we provoke pep, let sleeping dogs lie😂
I've never seen a team who starts so good and suddenly lost a lot of games in a terrible way. That doesn't have sense 🫨🫨🫨
