Congratulations on your new house! I love the tiles. Be careful getting rid of the 3rd bedroom. It's a great selling point if you ever decide to move.... no one knows the future! Plus you need it for your visitors, children, yarn room 😂
I painted similar tiles when i got my first house and before replacing. They had dark blue and black instead of your reds 🤢 I used tile paint for 2 coats $$ and ran out so used a tin of normal gloss paint. After leaving completely alone for 3 days to cure, the gloss never chipped or stained. It lasted 4 years until we ripped out, but was still completely perfect!
Lots to think about! Great that you have friends and family to help. I'd clear out and clean the loft before decorating the top floor. (1) You won't be dragging dirty stuff through your bedroom (2) you will have clear visual access to the roof. I think you need to know what's up there before decorating the bedrooms. I agree with the comments that say make the third "bedroom" into a bathroom and closet/storage. I'd keep a smaller corner shower downstairs and a toilet, plus a utility sink, washing machine and dryer and as much storage as you can build in. On the exterior wall of the downstairs bathroom, I'd put and outdoor tap and sink, unless you already have an external water point. Looking forward to your next videos.
You can do really great gardens in pots, I would recommend this based on your timeline of only staying 5-7 years. You can move them around as you like, it is really much easier and no grass maintenance. Like your one precedent image showing the outdoor corridor with pots. Its really fun to arrange and re-arrange them by season.
I love the idea of pots! I’m hoping for an easy garden with some possibilities for nice plants and veg but nothing super crazy, so the main garden will probably just be grass :)
I thought about that as well but I don’t think it’ll go too well with the decor and vibe we’re going for. We’ve actually just completely taken it out and removed the frame for now so it might just stay open 🤷♀️
gorgeous house, for the bits of floor missing in both bedrooms they were most seemingly for tile or brick for fireplaces so if patching up the wood is hard or doesn’t look the nicest, you could always tile or use bricks and add decorative mantels. It could solve the problem and bring back some character. The house is really sweet ! ❤
I also like the tiles. They look like zelliges. If you fill the window ledge with herbs and green plants, that would change the focus and the look (green being the complimentary colour of red). Wouldn't box in the water heater. A kitchen is a technical, functional place (it can also be pretty!) and my philosophy is to leave all essential technical equipment very easily accessible.
You could switch out the gravel in the backyard for a mulched area and put pavers down and add pots or raised garden beds! I've found fine mulch is the easiest thing to weed/rake out.
It is lovely to see young home owners. Congratulations! I love your vision and hope you manage to make it reality. Be warned, things do cost a lot more than anticipated. Sometimes it’s best to live in a space as the things that appear to be urgent become less so as other things takeover as immediate changes. Good luck and love the stairs and leaded light door ideas.
Thanks so much! We planned all the big renovations to be done in the new year so we have some time to live there first as I’m sure our ideas and needs will change a little :)
Love it! Personally (no idea about cost), I wouldn’t add the door and instead would knock the kitchen wall down and move it out so there is no narrow part of the garden. The kitchen is really tight currently and I’m sure you would massively appreciate more space there rather than a more random narrow walkway outside. Totally mo but I feel like that would stop you from feeling like you’ve outgrown the house too quickly. Although if it’s not going to be a forever home which I feel like previously you said it won’t be, then I probably wouldn’t worry as not sure the cost would improve the value enough to be worth it. Love all the inspo!
Exactly what you said! It would be nice to have but for a £25k+ renovation, extending the kitchen doesn’t seem worth it just for a bit more kitchen space. Instead we’re hoping to extend the loft and add another bedroom/ensuite which will add much more value when reselling :)
The house is so lovely, can’t wait to see what you make out of it. Thank you fore taking us with you on this journey. Congratulations on the house! 🎉 Good luck and have fun with the renovation process!
Its amazing! Just so good that you don't have to go straight into kitchen or bathroom renos. Had a thought - just be careful now its getting colder and if there's gaps if there's no skirting. Mice are horrible in winter.
Congratulations! Its so cool seeing your new home and the plans for it. You should do a sit down and go through your vision boards with us for each room! I love the type of build and dont think ive ever seen anything similar here in NZ.
Get an air frier till afford hob! Opening up will increase your heating bills! And knocking down a supporting wall not something I would do I’d worry it would start leaning under strain!
Exciting time for you both. If you can live in the house once you've done the decor , skirting etc. We moved into a house and ripped out wall, rooms etc. and regretted it down the line.
Congratulations on moving in. I do highly recommend you have a fire door between the kitchen and the room with the stairs. A fire door will give you extra time to escape in a fire. Also considering your taking down the wall of the staircase it will stop the fire from progressing up there as quickly. Taking down the wall by the stairs will let all the heat downstairs upstairs thus harder to heat. I would move the bathroom upstairs, then enlarge the kitchen or make the bathroom downstairs into a pantry.
Thank you for your advice! We definitely need a bathroom downstairs and upstairs so we won’t remove the downstairs one and will simple add another one upstairs :)
i no what you mean about the stairs i had stairs like that in my first House in London but just as it was hallway ect . Watching this took me back to 1977 lol , the loft hatch was on the landing between the two bed rooms , looks good what you are doing Meilyn
The stairs are so steep as well, I love the terrace house quirks but if I can save myself from falling down the stairs I’d rather put the work in 😅 so interesting how many of these houses are so similar!
Congrats! As an Australian that “3rd bedroom” was an eye opener. Here that would be a sunroom or used as a closet. I don’t think it’s big enough for a bedroom, unless maybe a nursery for a baby. So interesting to see different homes. Good luck!
Honestly as a German myself the third bedrooms in these terrace houses seemed wild to me at first. You should have seen the size of some of the ‘third bedrooms’ I’ve seen, literally room for a desk and that’s it 😅 thank you
@ the house is such a great first home. I should also say your home prices are so good compared to Australia. I think for the equivalent of what you paid we could maybe buy a 1br flat here. A 3br home around here is about $850,000AUD so about £425,000. 😢
Aww this made me want to rewatch Amelie!! Love the house, can’t wait to see what you do with it. Random question, but what camera do you use? Is it good for photos as well? ❤
Don’t throw away the gravel re use it or sell it , and the tiles are just those natural shaped tiles paint them and match the grout so they look more like zellige tiles I personally would tear them out it’s not that big a job , kitchen could be bigger if you are into the area where the back door is I would consider putting the washing machine and dryer out there , and in the future consider counter depth appliances on one wall and a lot of worktop prep on the opposite wall , and maybe swap your doors for drawers
Agree on everything you said, I also considered the washing machine where the back door is however now living in the house the door is very useful and not worth removing when the washing machine is just fine in the kitchen. Also it would cost £25k to make the kitchen bigger and instead we’d rather use the money to add another bathroom and bedroom to the house :)
So many of these terrace houses are exact copies it’s so interesting! I really wanted a bathroom downstairs so guests don’t have to go through our bedroom, but we’ll still be adding another bathroom upstairs 🥰
@@averpaula I have a toilet downstairs, in a utility room where the central heating is, sort of where your bathroom is now :) My proper bathroom is upstairs, in the 3rd tiny bedroom :) Good luck with your renovation, it`s going to be great :)
Honestly if you could afford it i would build out the kitchen because having more than one person in there at a time seems like a nightmare. Not to mention how if anyone wants to use the bathroom they have to squeeze through the kitchen to get to it
I also thought the same before we moved in, but we feel the money is better invested if we add another bathroom upstairs and we’d also really like to build out the loft to add another bedroom/ensuite to the house :)
It’s a shame you couldn’t build on where your doors going to be in your dining room. So your kitchen would be double its size and make your home so much better. Otherwise it is such a lovely home. I don’t like the kitchen tiles either. I’m jealous I don’t have a dishwasher. An en-suite/dressing room would be perfect to go into that third bedroom. You’d regret not putting the bathroom in when you have to go downstairs to the loo in the middle of the night and it’s freezing cold.
We could still build on there and for a while I really wanted to do that, but we feel we’d rather spend the money on adding another bathroom upstairs and maybe building out the loft to add another bedroom & ensuite :)
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! It will be a long process but it's so so worth it because you have complete control over the choices which is amazing! Double all the time scales by three haha it will save disappointment 🤣💖
Yeah we’ve learned this so far 😭 we thought everything will be done before we move in but we’ve settled for ‘as long as the floors are done, everything else can be done in the new year’ haha
Y not put in a Murphy bed in your office so that way you can be a bed when you need it in an office any other time just my two cents many blessings from North Texas❤
I thought about this but instead I think I will get a fold-up bed frame that I can take apart and keep in the loft for storage, we already have a spare mattress so that way I can keep it stored away completely until we have guests :) i find even murphy beds still take up a lot of space in the room without much use
You’re right about the kitchen tiles - the colors are too much, and too heavy for the space. They are making the room look more narrow. If color is important to you, you might be better served incorporating it in the form of accent pieces instead. And also a good decision on keeping the exterior kitchen door as well.
Congratulations on your new house! I love the tiles. Be careful getting rid of the 3rd bedroom. It's a great selling point if you ever decide to move.... no one knows the future! Plus you need it for your visitors, children, yarn room 😂

Love to hear that! So many people are telling me not to paint the tiles but I don’t see why I shouldn’t try first 🤷♀️
The house has so much potential! I would love to see the renovation/ remodeling process
Thank youuu it really does
I love the tiles.. it gives the room character..congratulations on your new home..
Thank you

I love the idea of pots! I’m hoping for an easy garden with some possibilities for nice plants and veg but nothing super crazy, so the main garden will probably just be grass :)
you should get a sliding pocket door for the kitchen, it would save space and the door is out the way all the time that it's open!
I thought about that as well but I don’t think it’ll go too well with the decor and vibe we’re going for. We’ve actually just completely taken it out and removed the frame for now so it might just stay open 🤷♀️
I don’t see any need for a door at all, but my kitchen has no doors, so I’m biased.
@@averpaula Try a barn door, look online, I think it will go well between the kitchen and the living room :)

We actually did go for tiling in the end! I chose some black and white victorian tiles, I can’t wait to show you how it turns out 🥰
Brilliant idea. 🎉🎉❤
Congrats! The tiles are so gorgeous!! If jou really don’t like the pattern, maybe consider painting them in a checkered whit&red instead of all white?
I love a checkered look so will definitely consider this :)

Yes! Live in it for a while!

Paint the tiles sage green!
Can you go through the mood boards for each room please? 😊

Skirting is hopefully going on next week, my boyfriend also plastered everything so hopefully that will keep them out for now :)
congrats !! excited to see more about the renovation !
Thank you so much
the third room upstairs would be fantastic as a bathroom with a walk in closet in the back half!
That’s exactly our plan, just the other way around so you walk through the closet to the bathroom :)

I love the type of build and dont think ive ever seen anything similar here in NZ.
Thank you! That’s actually coming next week 🥰
I love all your choices especially the bookcase and glass Edwardian door for your kitchen. Very exciting!
Thank youuu
Congrats on the new house

Exciting times when you can already see things changing. Good luck with all the projects you're planning in your house!

Yeah our plan is to finish the floors and skirting and then next year we’ll tackle the larger renovation projects :)

nooo dont paint the tiles they are so charming! painted white will be very boring
It’s so interesting, some people love them and some hate them 😅
Tile paint flakes off. You'll regret it. I do.....
I’d rather paint them first and see if I like it, then if I don’t I can always redo the tiles completely :)
