Micah understands the bigger picture here. Fields had 2 different GMs. One entirely screwed up the Bears and Fields situation. The other really liked Fields but when we’re talking about contracts (plus this being a potential generational talent) how could he pass on that situation? If Caleb is a bust, less people will blame Poles than if Fields was another year bust.

Can we stop calling Fields a generational talent? Dude is a bust. It isn't going to work. He can't understand an NFL offense nor defense. He truly needs to run out of the pocket in order for things to work. So basically defenses just need to close off the edge and make him throw. Game set match

Micah is spot on. Fields was drafted by a GM who put the Bears into a massive hole. The only way for the new GM to pull them out of that hole was to trade whatever talent they did have and essentially tank for capital for a couple of season.

Also look Purdy might be a QB who can won multiple rings by the end of his career. Also niners doesn't have a O line my man if you watch football you would know such a simple fact. People believe because we have Trent we have a stacked O line. We are a bottom middle tier O line at best. Purdy is able to scramble 90% of the time because that is what he excels at. Fields doesn't know how to read defenses and can't throw dimes. Fields just isn't a star. He can be a backup definitely. He might be able to pick up some extra wins while a QB goes down. Fields definitely got the short end of the stick and had a really unfortunate rookie where everyone knew Nagy and Pace would be fired next year so it really made no sense to keep them, just a terrible ownership decision but lets not act like Fields was too good to trade away. Theres a reason he was traded for a 6th. I watched every Fields game, rooting for him year after year and he cannot read a defence at all or throw over the middle. Tremendous athlete and runner but a bottom 10 qb. Still tons of potential and i hope he tears it up in Pittsburg.
If Fields was "the guy" the bears would gladly trade away the number 1 for an even bigger haul last year and continue to build around Fields. He simply wasnt good enough to pass on a top 5 qb prospect in the last decade.

Ok I like your take but let's be real.... Who he had to throw too? Who was his QB Coach or the game coordinator to put him in a position to win games. Like you said you saw his game but did you really? The guy numbers in the first 3 quarters was awesome but he has the worst 4 quarter numbers in the league. Like you calling rpo in the 4 quarter. That guy wasn't a a RPO TYPE OF GUY IN COLLEGE. Like why every QB who can run has to be in that formation? He's a good QB it showed in college. Trevor got the players around him went to the playoffs Mac Jones had the pieces went to the playoffs Zack Wilson had a good team he just suck but Justin didn't get a shot like CJ is saying so they ruined Justin that's why Steelers got a steal in a 6 round trade. Steelers are going to do what's right by Justin because he'll have a vet to give him advice and better coaching staff than the bears. The bears want to sell tickets by drafting celeb because he's a Heisman winner so I understand but the bears are not good enough to turn them around.

Did anybody watch Fields play? When he did get decent protection, he stared down his hot receiver too long nullifying his #2's split second window that he had to get open. After 2 seconds he gets paranoid and drops his eyes and looks for a hole. Fields hardly ever kept his eyes downfield while in the pocket. Good QB's have good peripheral vision and move throughout the pocket while keeping there eyes on a receiver who is dashing across the field to an open spot! Also, watch the All-22 and you'll notice that he gets flustered easily and misses wide open receivers! I don't care if he had 3 of the best receivers; he doesn't throw with good anticipation nor can he process progressions quickly!

Then he makes $40+ million in 2025 and the Bears have to get rid of some of the guys they picked up in 2024 to get better. What's Fields going to do with great receivers? He doesn't keep his eyes downfield long enough when he senses pressure. He drops his eyes and begins to look for a hole to run in! I liked Fields athleticism, but he can't process through progressions quickly in the pocket and stares down his hot receiver too long. Even if Marvin Harrison Jr. was his #2, he would hardly ever get the ball because Justin doesn't look off #1 quick enough. By the time he progressed to #2, the coverage would have caught back up already and is no longer open. This is why only one receiver last year had a productive year because most of Justin's throws were to his #1 target on those plays!

Trade it for two crafty and speedy receivers in the form of Velus Jones and tyler. Brought in an All-Pro guard to go along with another guard who plays at an All-Pro level when he's not injured. A rebuild doesn't happen in the day, the Bears ran out of time with Justin just as much as anything, Poles gave feels what he could at the time.

I don't know why everyone seems to think Justin's a good QB who got screwed over relative to other QBs in league and the challenges they also had to face. Mahomes won a super bowl[s] with terrible & inexperienced wide receivers. Burrow made to a super bowl with the leagues worst offensive line. Rodgers consistently dragged his team to playoffs despite being injured and team never taking an offensive skill position in 1st round while he was a starter with packers 10+ years.
My point is that elite or even just plain good QBs can not only make it to playoffs, but actually make some deep runs. They don't need everything to be perfect. Even Stroud showed potential to be a good QB by getting his team to playoffs as a rookie with an inexperienced head coach and no real established offensive weapons. I mean the most notable player of the offensive side of the ball going into the 2023 season was their offensive tackle Leremy Tunsil.
If you watch the film nothing outside of his scrambling ability is really that impressive. I'm sure he could find some success if he had the best situation like Tua or Hurts who're literally surrounded by weapons everywhere, but in all honesty those guys are above average QBs who need a strong team to win. Give them the weapons Mahomes had the past 2 seasons or the offensive line Burrow had his first 2 seasons and they'd be lucky to make playoffs in my opinion.
