I can't get enough of this song. "I think that chest must be heavy from that cross on your neck you only wear cause you're weary of what comes next after your death" This line hits me so hard.
I agree and I love this song. As a Christian, this song speaks to me on what is wrong with the modern church. The point of salvation is that none of us are perfect and we have all sinned. Salvation is a gift from God and a transformation to be "Good" or more accurately to be an agent of "Good." We do this by being an image of Christ and serve, love, and not be judgment of others. Salvation is not by our deeds but by grace; however, if our faith is true, than our actions will truly show it. Sometimes, I think Christians rely more on the teachings of Paul and less on the teachings of Christ. In fact, Christ has always been more critical of the religious believers and self-righteousness than of non-believers. Instead he showed them grace, mercy, and love. When we are are called to call out sin, it is almost always for a believer of Christ and always as a way to help them get closer to God. For example, having an affair might be impacting a Christians relationship with God. So we talk to them about it but we still shouldn't judge them for it. Again, the message should always be grace, mercy, and love. For the non-believers, our job as Christians is not to call out their sin, but to bring Christ to them. Because remember, everyone was and is a sinner when they accepted Christ. And so we bring Christ to the non-believers not by our words, but by our actions. That is by protecting those who can't protect themselves, clothing the unclothed, forgiving criminals, feeding the hungry, giving home to the homeless, showing mercy to those who have sinned, becoming a family to those who have none, and maybe, just maybe, attending a same sex marriage because we want others to feel loved and supportive. Personally, I would never want some one to tell me I am marrying the wrong person, and by rejecting same sex marriage, we are essentially saying the same thing. If you have read this far, I thank you. And I hope I have showed some of Christ's true love and that not all Christians are the same. And most importantly, God loves you for who you are, and who you love, especially if you weird, strange, or an outcast in the eyes of society. Because remember Christ himself was also an outcast of society. I love you all, and hope you all have a great day.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
""“I have a friend [whose] mom is very, very Christian and crazy religious,” Gunn explains. “She’s like that for all the wrong reasons and isn’t actually true to her word. She doesn’t practice what she preaches. The things she does preach, she contradicts them all the time. She can be really hypocritical. It went out to her and anybody else like that.”"""
I love this song...Being a Christian myself its a wake up call that I should practice what I preach. It is simple and honest. It is not forceful but yet it doesn't shy away from the truth that hypocrisy is the decay of everyman no matter what the beliefs.
I agree with everything you said...In fact,as a Christian,I'm glad that there's others who feel the same way as I do... You know,it doesn't matter what ideology we can think of,all of them have followers who think that their ideology is the only acceptable truth and, because of this, hit the ones who don't fit in their standards using words as weapons or even using actual weapons... Despite of the Christian metaphors, this song is about arrogance and hypocrisy, and fortunately or unfortunately, neither arrongance or hypocrisy are restrict to Christians or religious people, they are part of human condition,I suppose, and for the greater good we humans have to learn how to control them so we don't hurt each other... :)
well lynn is a lesbian so she is sinning big time in the eyes of the religious, so i guess lynn is going to hell. unless....maybe the bible is full of balony? just throwing that out there.
No "sin" is going to make you go to hell unless it's not believing in God. Everyone sins. Even people who love God still sin. It's life. People lie, people envy, people cheat and steal... It doesn't make it right but it's inevitable. No one is perfect. She's not going to hell for being a lesbian.
Lexie Chadss oh! ok cool. so im going to do whatever i want too sweet! as long as i believe in god and ask for forgiveness im solid, got my ticket to heaven. christian logic *for the win* baby!! whoo!
This song makes me think of these two years taken out of my childhood because I was in CPS custody. Long story short, there were countless adults in the system that were constantly telling me that I was gonna go to hell because I was pagan, but I got along very well with the other kids and teens despite them knowing that our beliefs were different. I remember a 10 year old girl named Tanaya who came to me crying because our foster mom had told her that she was gonna go to hell because she sinned. Tanaya and I didn't get along very well but I couldn't stand to see her cry, but I had no idea what to tell her... All I could think was, "how could you make a child cry by telling her she was gonna go to hell?" I don't got a single problem with religion, but I do have an issue with making others feel like shit just so you don't have to. "But simply calling out sins don't bring you closer to God." This song really hits home with me and its just so beautiful sung and written.
Maybe she needed to be reminded that she could be the hero of her own story. To be her own knight in shining armor. And, to be patient of herself and time. She can prevail anything and any circumstance if she believed it to the core.. mind over matter
That she could become a very strong person if she truly believed in herself with time and patience. Some people would just say fake it till you make it. But, it really depends on what they're going through at the moment. That's why it's always ok to ask for help from people you trust. Just depends on who you really trust. Sometimes, there isn't very many options even from professionals that are very busy. I think she just needed a friend or someone to talk to

alright deadass this bands whole album is literally fucking beautiful. this song is so fucking deep its literally just a roller coaster of absolute emotional transcendance. like this and oceanos new albums got me geekin
Honestly, this song calms me. I was just arguing with my friends and I was so angry... but when I listened to the song I felt better! This is an amazing song!
The fact that this song gets to you is a good indicator that God is going to crack you some day. He has an affinity for those who push-back the hardest. I speak from experience ;)
So i just listened to this album today and it is the first ive heard of PVRIS and WOW! I am obsessed with this song and am quickly falling in love with this band!!
I think this is a song about someone who uses religion as a shield- they think they can be as awful as they want as long as they’re still a Christian. And how it gives good Christians a bad rap. A very nice song.
It's kinda sad that people who can relate to this song, could literally relate to this song in a really high level and fall into a deep depression, as if to become a 'poor unfortunate soul' this song is good if you are trying to get over someone and believe that they were an awful person and deserve nobody, but be careful about what you wish for someone else as karma is part of your inner thoughts as well and it'll come back around.
??? The song is mostly calling out the brand of religious people that use their religion as a justification to hurt others while painting themselves as a victim and the line "You poor unfortunate soul" can be seen as both genuine (pitying the person for being so narrowminded and willfully ignorant) and mocking (referring the victim complex of the kind of people that take, for example, the existence of gay or trans people as a personal offense).
I love this song is like saying that it doesn't matter if you are a believer or not you're just tied to the same angst and fears and everything that you try to do to give meaning to life is just a lie that you tell to yourself over and over again till you realize that you are human and we have to love each other and that's all to help each other
And, to add on to that, just because someone is religious doesn't mean they are a good person. There are serial killers who speak highly of God, believe they have a strong connection with him and believe they are doing his work.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
I am a believer but I am not offended at all. (i'm saying this because a person I know was deeply offended by this song and I believe they need to reevaluate their life) The reason is: this song is about pretentious, fake "evangelical Christians" not practicing what they preach, standing on their podiums and spouting condescending bullcrap to make themselves feel holy and righteous. In fact, I can relate, having met a lot of these hypocritical people who are pushing down on others to lift themselves higher. It's funny how the nicest people can be covered in tattoos and piercings and the most self-righteous, disgusting people can be found on church pews. Things really aren't what they seem to be. Edit: Two years later, no longer a believer. Still, most of this holds true.
don't you just absolutely hate stereotypes? Cause I know I do, I don't believe tattoos or piercings should be considered "bad". getting them doesn't come with a lifestyle, it's more so a fashion, like coloring your hair, which isn't bad either. yes there are a lot of people that have tattoos and they may be considered bad people, but those tattoos didn't make them bad.
It is very sad, yes. We have too much of this in today's church. Christians are being seen in the wrong light today because many people like to think that they're better than others. It's not our job to judge, because there is a greater Judge. My pastor was talking about this and he told us that "God called and He wants His job back." And I totally agree with that.
Every week we do openers (songs we play at the start of service to help relay the message) at my church, this week we're playing this song, I was able to convince the pastor and creative team and they thought the lyrics were super convicting as well as relevant to the way a lot of people perceive the church. Just thought you should know...
PVRIS yall are AMAZING! Just wanted to tell you that these songs are truly amazing they come from inside i bet hopefully i get to met y'all one day yall look fun to talk to and yup...hopefully I'll grow up and then go to all ur concerts so yup i didnt want this to go long but please wright back but i bet you won't but you need faith sometimes because you never know...so ya thanks for the most AMAZING music
Her voice sounds so young here! It's awesome! I know it's been 3 years in between this album and the next but it's amazing how the voice progresses over time
So Long story. I was walking in the store past the magazines. Saw kellin quinn on it (vocalist of sws which im a huge fan of) so then I looked through it (AP) and found a pic of these people. Now I love them tbh.
This song is for the Lukewarm Christians. When Christ is the Foundation Rock yet people still wanna Sin against God's word. Poor Souls. Stop Deceiving yourselves!
I used to listen this song when I was in the bus while seeing the beautiful Alps. This song created some good memories for me even tho the lyrics sound sad.
I can't get enough of this song.
"I think that chest must be heavy from that cross on your neck you only wear cause you're weary of what comes next after your death"
This line hits me so hard.
didn't catch that really but thanks for pointing it out, really meaningful.
Ashley Houghton i read this comment while it was being sung
dont think i didnt notice
I'm still listening to this album on repeat. It's an absolute masterpiece.

@drachenmagus1604 Amen! We All Must look to Christ! The Enemy has infuriated the churches that's why many of them will still hate Jesus.
This song describes some people in my family, especially my father. He is quick to point out your sins and even quicker to defend his own.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
That’s the spirit of narcissism
"But simply calling out sins don't bring you closer to God. " ... as I am a Christian I have to agree;)
Tala Moreb Religion < Jesus
Lynn (the singer) is actually talking about the religious mother of one of her friends.
No, she's talking about the religious friend :P
""“I have a friend [whose] mom is very, very Christian and crazy religious,” Gunn explains. “She’s like that for all the wrong reasons and isn’t actually true to her word. She doesn’t practice what she preaches. The things she does preach, she contradicts them all the time. She can be really hypocritical. It went out to her and anybody else like that.”"""
Me too. This song is about my bff. And if you get rid of the "Not really a Christian" parts it's about me
This song is fucking brilliant.
I love this song...Being a Christian myself its a wake up call that I should practice what I preach. It is simple and honest. It is not forceful but yet it doesn't shy away from the truth that hypocrisy is the decay of everyman no matter what the beliefs.

This song makes me think of these two years taken out of my childhood because I was in CPS custody. Long story short, there were countless adults in the system that were constantly telling me that I was gonna go to hell because I was pagan, but I got along very well with the other kids and teens despite them knowing that our beliefs were different. Maybe she needed to be reminded that she could be the hero of her own story. To be her own knight in shining armor. And, to be patient of herself and time. She can prevail anything and any circumstance if she believed it to the core.. mind over matter

Lyric:
Yeah, you've got it all,
But you've got it all wrong.
No, you don't know
You're a poor unfortunate soul.
Oh I know,
You make it seem that you feel whole,
So they don't know
You're a poor unfortunate soul.
Yeah you put on a faith facade,
Think you're holy when you're not.
I hate to break it to you baby,
But you're simply lost.
You can right all the wrongs just to feel you belong,
But simply calling out sins don't bring you closer to God.
You're just a ghost at most,
A set of empty bones,
Searching for anything and everything to make you feel whole,
When it gets cold, oh oh oh.
You don't know.
No you don't know.
Oh you're all alone,
You poor unfortunate soul.
You can't control where your body lets you go.
Oh you're all alone,
You poor unfortunate soul.
And you say that I've got it all wrong.
'Cause you just know I'm a poor unfortunate soul.
But there's no way that there's weight in the words that you preach,
When you're claiming your faith and you contradict your speech.
So I sit here and listen to your tongue and cheek,
I know that when you sit and pray you're only praying for keeps.
Cause you're a ghost at most,
A set of empty bones,
Searching for anything and everything to make you feel whole,
When it gets cold, oh oh oh.
You don't know.
No you don't know.
Oh you're all alone,
You poor unfortunate soul.
You can't control where your body lets you go.
Oh you're all alone,
You poor unfortunate soul.
You're shallow and empty and filled with regret.
I think that chest must be heavy from that cross on your neck
You only wear 'cause you're wary of what comes next after you're death.
Don't think I didn't notice.
Don't think I didn't notice.
Don't think I didn't know you just a po-oh-oh-oh
Poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul
Poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul
Poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul
Poor unfortunate
And you've got it all (poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul)
You've got it all wrong (poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul)
No you'll never know, never know, never know (poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul)
You're a poor unfortunate soul.
Don't think I didn't notice.

I just love this song so much. It's a memory that I have of my grand grand mother. When I first talked with her, when she had lung cancer. Her voice was on my left ear, and this song on my right one. She lives so far from me, and I'm missing her so bad. I don't want to sound like needy, but I needed to comment this. She has 5% of life expectancy right now. She has 94 years old. :'(
I'm so sorry

She died like 4 days before I wrote this.
It sounds like you miss her. ;-; And its also one of my mom's fav songs. She died a month after it came out.

SAMMEEE I KEPT SEEING THE LITTLE MERMAID AND I WAS LIKE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
So i just listened to this album today and it is the first ive heard of PVRIS and WOW! I am obsessed with this song and am quickly falling in love with this band!!
i just started listening to them they are absolutely amazing
Ok....I am now addicted to this band. Seriously amazing
Saw her in concert yesterday she was amazing!
This song was on eye candy!! I was so happy when I heard it
This song is 6 years old and still banging
Her voice is soo beautiful and it sounds even better live
I think this is my favorite one, and I'd like an Empty Room Session of it please.
I think this is a song about someone who uses religion as a shield- they think they can be as awful as they want as long as they’re still a Christian. And how it gives good Christians a bad rap. A very nice song.
LORD BABY JESUS I DIED AND GONE TO PVRIS HEAVEN THIS IS A GOOD DAY
It's kinda sad that people who can relate to this song, could literally relate to this song in a really high level and fall into a deep depression, as if to become a 'poor unfortunate soul' this song is good if you are trying to get over someone and believe that they were an awful person and deserve nobody, but be careful about what you wish for someone else as karma is part of your inner thoughts as well and it'll come back around.
@@teaartist6455 Yes I get that also, but I also feel like people will wish pain on other people also
You know it's a good song when everyone is writing about their feelings...
I love Lynn. She's so talented and beautiful, and she gives me hope of making it as a musician even if I am openly gay, as she is.
If anyone deserves to be compared to her, LIGHTS sounds sooo much like her.
LIGHTS and Pvris are both amazing!
This comment aged well
This song is incredibly amazing.
This song is so underrated and meaningful
I love this song is like saying that it doesn't matter if you are a believer or not you're just tied to the same angst and fears and everything that you try to do to give meaning to life is just a lie that you tell to yourself over and over again till you realize that you are human and we have to love each other and that's all to help each other
I love this band so much! Their music is amazing and so deep. My cousin's girlfriend showed me this song and man am I glad she did!
seriously LOVE this song ! man I can't stop listening to they're music !
Being a good person is better than any religion (Don"t mean to offend anyone ) .
And, to add on to that, just because someone is religious doesn't mean they are a good person. There are serial killers who speak highly of God, believe they have a strong connection with him and believe they are doing his work.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Been 5 years since I've listened to this. This hits different now, idk why.
Why did i forget this song. What a poor unfortunate soul. 💔
why are they so underrated? :( i love their songs OMG
Dude this song is too perfect 😍
I got my album yesterday in the mail with a T-shirt and heir poster
Love love love. Can't wait to see them at the SWS and PTV World Tour in a few days.
this just gave me the chills. THIS DESCRIBES MY EX SO PERFECTLY.
samer
holy fuck, just, sAME
I am a believer but I am not offended at all.
(i'm saying this because a person I know was deeply offended by this song and I believe they need to reevaluate their life)
The reason is: this song is about pretentious, fake "evangelical Christians" not practicing what they preach, standing on their podiums and spouting condescending bullcrap to make themselves feel holy and righteous.
+Salem K I came here to write this. There's a very big difference between faith and religion. Stay awesome.
Sarah Hyde yeah, but where did the sterotype come from? lmao.
SalemK I’ll pray you will be a believer again because God loves you
love this band!
1:24 Is definitely my fav part.
I've only just found this band and i'm sad that i didn't know of them before
This....is true beauty at its finest. This is now my favourite band
Reminds me of old school Paramore. Love it!

@@Mushroom831 what made you stop loving them? for me.. i wasn't very fond of their second album, and slowly grew out of them >

My older sister used to listen to this song and I just found it after years-

@@valentine_xx your older sister is cool! :DDD i'm filled with nostalgia as well going back to listen to the songs i used to love :')
Every week we do openers (songs we play at the start of service to help relay the message) at my church, this week we're playing this song, I was able to convince the pastor and creative team and they thought the lyrics were super convicting as well as relevant to the way a lot of people perceive the church. Just thought you should know...
I love this song, its so underated
"I'm a poor unfortunate soul" love it
The music on their album is probably one of the few out there that actually goes together well c:

Stop being so perfect..!
This song is for the Lukewarm Christians. When Christ is the Foundation Rock yet people still wanna Sin against God's word. Poor Souls. Stop Deceiving yourselves!
This is my favorite song off the album.
I used to listen this song when I was in the bus while seeing the beautiful Alps. This song created some good memories for me even tho the lyrics sound sad.
All of my yes.
