Any excuse to put some classic kiwi music in, the end track is "Shark Attack by Split Enz". I really like this game, the one thing holding it back from the gold medal is I've played it 5 times and it looks like I've played it 50 with bent cards and warped components.
Great video explainer as always. This game is a hit with our regular group. Act 1 is lighthearted whack a mole with swimmers, and Act 2 is perfectly balanced and always down to the wire.
I didn't mention it in the video, but I have won with the humans after losing 9 swimmers. So the fight can go either way as well. And i've seen the shark win with only 3 or 4 swimmers caught.
@@3MBG Oh for sure. That feeling in Act 2 when you've gone in with just a couple of crew gear cards, the shark player is smashing the ship to pieces, everyone is treading water and dying... And then you finally get a good roll and the crew just barely beats the shark! Pretty special.
Oh my goodness, that outro. The mighty Split Enz. Now, there’s a band who knew how to belt a tune or two! That takes me back to… good grief, was it that long ago? 😊
We enjoy this light one vs all hidden movement game. The theme appeals to all ages and the quotes on the cards brings the movie to life. We enjoy the two acts and the tension both bring. Agree the cards are flimsy, guess we'll have to consider getting some sleeves.......
Pure deckbuilders: Arctic Scavengers and Dale of merchants Co-ops: Legendary Alien and Aeons end Hybrid deckbuilders: Dune Imperium and Tyrants of the underdark
I like act 2 more than act 1, maybe because it has dice & it’s fun to use the different equipment. However, while I liked the game, for some reason, I have no desire to play it that much. I have no idea why.
Not sure, when i was 12 i was playing and teaching games much more complex than this and running a games club at my school. So i tend to be a bad judge of what is age appropriate. As for a simpler game for 4, i just reviewed "The crew - mission deep sea", which is sea themed, simple and cooperative.
@@3MBG Actually one of my nephews is still ~ 8 and they only come to my house for a day, that's why I asked for a simple game so they learn it within 10 min. thanks for your suggestion "The crew", I will check it right now. if you have any other suggestions that involve farming theme too, or something like UNO I would really appreciate it :)
I guess you guys had better luck with the rules, I found the explanations for how getting in the boat and other elements of the second phase to be frustrating to understand. We definitely gave up on this game

We need more Enz!
Never got to see them live sadly, but Crowded House, many times. Including a very memorable Royal Albert Hall show.

Ha, glad someone appreciated it. A little bit of classic kiwi music that's about as old as I am.
Yay! I picked this up but haven't managed to play it yet. Looked like silly fun that captured the movie well. Glad to see it holds up. Thanks!
Man… The Split Enz! I loved them and love that song. Nice call.
I think Kiwi accents are the best. SHAAK CAADZ. Love ya my friend - you’re one of the best in the board game game !
Feels like two separate games that they stuck in the same box.
I guess, but they dovetail into each other well and fit the two focal points of the film well.

I've played this game a couple times, it's fun
Anyone got any deck building reccomedations that aren't dominion?
Clank! is a lot of fun :)

That happens from time to time. I get that with some games i like, i go "i want to play that" and then don't get it off the shelf.
@@3MBG True.
this looks very complicated, any easy game you recommend to play 4 players with 12 years old kids with a similar theme like this one but simpler?

Sharkrolled...
You haven't done a solo game in a long time. 😭
Yeah, i guess I haven't. Not by design mind you.
Roll player is coming up soon. That's a popular one for solo play

Interesting, it all seemed pretty straight forward to me.
