- Peter Brown's latest home-town exhibition opens at the Victoria Art Gallery on Saturday November 30th - through to February 9th 2020. Around one hundred works of art showcasing Bath - with a few international extras. Bath Newseum asked this well-known and acclaimed plein-air painter how he got his 'Pete the Street' nickname.
Boy, he is really good and an honest painter.. no tricks.. refreshing!
I saw Pete for the first time when I was jogging by Vauxhall years ago. I didn't know someone could paint plein air like that with such finesse. It still baffles me.
Peter ‘the street’ must be the most exciting artist you could ever meet….a brilliant and astoundingly gifted artist.
"You have to capture the transcience."
You are a great plein-air artist, this is a great interview! Thank you so much Pete!!!
Super talented and a nice, down-to-earth guy [just going off the film, I haven't met him].
The control of light, tone, colour, composition, spontaneous brushwork and overall effect are amazing. Also, his work rate and consistent quality throughout are admirable.
Really, an outstanding output of great painting by a super-sensitive artist.
I wish we could have a show of this sort of thing in the Manchester area. I haven't a clue where though. I can't see the City Art Gallery showing such superb conventional paintings anytime soon; though they used to.
Wow Another brilliant artist from Britain ! I so love David Curtis and now to discover another living master is incredible.
I feel the same, good to know we have some amazing artists still, If you have not already seen him you may like Tom Hughes of "thoughts on painting" he also often paints in bath and has a kind of similar style. (also has a huge really good series on youtube of his plein air adventures.)
Great to see this. Peter's paintings are astoundingly good, I've seen two of his exhibitions in Bath and found both very moving indeed.
Amazing work,by a humble confident artist.
Sadly I did not get to see this wonderful exhibition. Beautiful paintings.
Some really nice classic works
Love your art, hope to see you on the street some time in the future. 😊
Great interview......and we do like it!
Plein air painting in the city combines the historical tradition of realism with modernity. Also, a painter on the street has an impact on the urban environment.
I follow his Twitter.
Thumbs down are do to dyslexia.
In some cades a severe case of dumb
With is untreatable.......
Great work !
Great paintings - am I the only one to think the framing dreadful!? Not doing the paintings justice - could be a matter if cost?
These are adequate illustrations of the scenes, but I think artistically they lack a broader vision that overrides the creative goals. However, I do respect the commitment to putting in the time and effort to achieve a body of works.
