- Usually I make noodles for dinner. Our neighbor, Uncle Siriwardena is working in the town and goes to work daily , so I got some shrimps through him to temper with the noodles for dinner. Brother loves when I make noodles with the prawns. What a sweet soul uncle is as he has sent a huge pack of kithul jaggery as well through the brother! When my brother saw the kithul jaggery, he smoothly put an idea to my head & commented how nice it will be to drink some herbal porridge with a piece of pure kithul jaggery in the next morning.
Since he gave me this idea , I stopped making the dinner halfway & went to the garden to gather some herbs before the night fall. It’s so easy to find enough varieties of nutritional herbs for the porridge when walk around the house! Tender leaves of Gotukola(Centella), Mukunuwenna(Sessile joyweed), Hathawariya(Asparagus recemosus), Welpenala(Balloon Vine), Karapincha (Curry leaves) pounded together with fresh grated coconut makes a highly nutritional & tasty porridge. Most of the people don’t have a clue as to what a highly nourishing, health boosting wonder drink that 1 big glass could add to their daily nutritional requirements! Best value that you can get is to add a palmful of well mashed boiled red kekulu rice which will add a morning power booster filled with nutrients in one big glass! My best advice is to add the fresh herbal juice in the last stage and not to boil the porridge for long so that high nutrients of the green herbs will not be destroyed! It’s an age old traditional practice for 1000 of year of our ancient ancestors to boost their strength & vitality by drinking herbal porridge every morning. Now I understand how Our ancestors maintain their high stamina & perfect health & lived up to over 100 years & more!
Came home with all the herbs for the porridge & I started to make the noodles again. It was good that I already cooked a vegetable curry earlier to go with the noodles. My secret to give such a rich flavor to this curry is, I deep fry the carrots, yellow beans, Lima beans broad beans, string beans, black string beans, winged beans, red winged beans, cauliflower, lady’s fingers, ash plantains & potatoes. Then mix thick coconut milk and cook the vegetables and reduce until the curry is dry! I know you will agree with me as to how appetizing the taste is. It was a simple meal but I was very happy that I managed to cook dinner for grandmother & brother which was packed with wholesome nourishing goodness & so flavorful too!

*Please find the English description in the description box | ගොඩක් වෙලාවට මම නූඩ්ල්ස් හදන්නෙ රෑ කෑම වේලකට තමයි. අපේ අසල් වැසි සිර්වර්ධන මාමා හැමදාම රැකියාව කරන්න ටවුමට යන නිසා නූඩ්ල්ස් එක්ක තෙම්පරාදු කරන්න පොඩි ඉස්සො ටිකකුත් සිර්වර්ධන මාමාටම කියලා ටවුමෙන්ම ගෙන්න ගත්තා. ඉස්සො එක්ක නූඩ්ල්ස් හැදුවම මල්ලි හරිම ආසයි. ඒ එන ගමන් මල්ලි අතේ ලොකු කිතුල් හකුරු බෑ දෙකකුත් එවල තිබුණා. නියම කිතුල් පැණි වලින් හදන නියම කිතුල් හකුරු කෑල්ලක් එක්ක උදේට කොළ කැඳ ටිකක් බොන්න තිබුණනම් හොඳයි කියල මතක් කලෙත් මල්ලිම තමයි.
ඉතිං රෑට කෑම හදන එක අතරමග නතර කරල ඇදිරි වැටෙන්න කලින් කොල ටිකක් කඩන් එන්න ගියා. ගෙදර වට පිටාවෙ ඇවිද්දම කොල කැඳක් හදාගන්න ඕන කරන කොලජාති ඕන තරම් තියෙනවා. ළපටි ගොටුකොළ, මුකුණුවැන්න, හාතවාරිය, වැල්පෙනෙල, කරපිංචා මේ හැම ජාතියම එක්ක පොල් ටිකකුත් හොඳට කොටල ගත්තම රස ගුන පිරිච්ච කොලකැද රස බලන්න පුලුවන්. ලොකු වීදුරුවකින් එකක් කොළ කැඳ බොනව කියන්නෙ ඉතින් හැම පෝෂන ගුණයකින්ම පිරුණු ආශ්චර්යමත් බීමක් තමයි. හොඳට නිවුඩ්ඩ තියෙන රතු කැකුළු හාල් මිටකුත් තම්බල පොඩි කරගත්තම කොළ කැඳ එකේ රස දෙගුණ තෙගුණ වෙනවා. හරිත පාට කොල යුෂවල තිබෙන පෝෂණය විනාස නොවී තිබෙන්න නම් කොළ යුෂ එකතු කරගන්න ඕන අවසානෙදියි. ඒ වගේම ගොඩක් වෙලා තම්බන්නෙත් නැහැ. උදේ වේලට කොළ කැඳ පානය කිරීම ශ්‍රී ලංකාවෙ අපේ මුතුන්මිත්තන් වසර දහස් ගණනක් පුරාවට රැකගෙන ආපු සම්ප්‍රදායක් කිව්වොත් හරි.
කැඳ හදන්න ඕන කොල ජාත් ටික කඩාගෙන ඇවිත් ආයෙ රෑට කෑම හදන්න පටන් ගත්තා. මම කලින්ම නූඩ්ල්ස් එක්ට ගැලපෙන එලවලු වෑංජනයක් හදලයි තිබුනෙ. කැරට්, බටර් බෝංචි, අවර, මෑ කරල්, කලු මෑ කරල්, දඹල, රතු දඹල, මල් ගෝවා, බණ්ඩක්කා අලු කෙසෙල් අර්තාපල් මේ එලවලු ජාති එකතු කරල හදන වෑංජනේට මම එලවලු එකතු කරගත්තෙ ගැඹුරු තෙලේ තරමක් බැදගත්තට පස්සෙ. පොල් කිරිවලින් හිඳගන්න මේ වෑංජනේට එලවලු තේලේ බැදගත්ත නිසා අමුතුම රසයක් එකතු වෙනවා. එදා රෑට තිබුනෙ ජාති දෙකක් වුනත් හැම අතින්ම පෝෂනණය පිරුණු රසවත්ම කෑම වේලක් අත්තම්මටයි මල්ලිටයි දෙන්න පුලවන් වුනා.

What I love about this channel is all of the ingredients she uses are fresh from the land. And I love her tray of assorted spices. I wish I knew what she has in there. I know definitely curry, turmeric, red chili and possibly paprika are some spices.

Hi my dad was born in Sri Lankan but he and his family had to leave this beautiful country as refugees to India when he was around 7 years old, now he is 61 but he always speaks about his beautiful birthplace and wishes to visit it .... the fruits and vegetables of sooo many varieties and colours you are using is making me even more inquisitive about your country ! You remind me of my childhood: we use the same utensils, cooking techniques, and the variety of fruits and vegetables is very much the same, perhaps because Sri Lanka is also in the tropics, so as the Philippines. We also used to play barefoot when we're children. Like you, I also advocate the traditional way of living and one which is not damaging to the environment. Your videos are indeed wonderful!

The traditional way of cooking, walking bare foot ,the soil, cooking on wood fire, growing fruits and vegetables naturally, pure organic, no chemicals, the noise of bird chirping, reminds me of my childhood. This lifestyle went with my childhood, never to come back, miss it a lot.
