  • Houellebecq's novels depict the effects of neoliberal economics on national environments. His novels depict the effects of the sexual revolution on the relations between the sexes. Many people are disaffected by both of these movements-the politics of global unity through the free market and the politics of diversity through the attempt to deconstruct the family. Houellebecq takes their claims very seriously. And he does so from the perspective of defending something, it appears. And that something appears to be love, ambiguously defined.
The central action of Atomised concerns two brothers: Michel and Bruno. These are brothers from the same mother but they have different fathers, but neither really had a father or a mother. Thus the story of the Sexual Revolution. Neither are happy. And both are surrounded by misery.

These are fantastic commentaries. I wish it were a podcast, as it would be great to hear on the car.
