Why the fuck do we keep those jobs in existence? Clearly people hate working there, clearly people hate being rung up by those working there, clearly the only reason so much is spent on the sales effort or possible to spend on it is because of the margins being too high to begin with and since it's not a productive job replacing it with something else by either taxing those companies more or lowering the price of the products so that people can consume other things would not net a loss of jobs overall.

    Everyone has the hate.
    Fewer have the spirit.
I've never seen anyone gain the sense without a memorable experience of lacking it.
The true strength comes from using your spirit to contain your hate inside your sense.
Strength like a Bomb is nothing compared to Strength like a Power Plant.

Actually, the folks who pulled the oars of a Roman warship were soldiers not slaves! Once the ship engaged an enemy vessel, they came up topside to fight!
"In Imperial times, provincials who were free men became the mainstay of the Roman rowing force."

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 2 месяца назад

That's true, Roman (and earlier Greek) galleys were manned by professional oarsmen, well-fed, well-drilled, and proud of their trade. The Romans WOULD recruit slaves as oarsmen during times of war but on enlistment their owners were compensated and the slaves given their freedom, a free man is a motivated man.
However at the time General Wallace wrote the novel it was assumed galley rowers were always slaves but that didn't start until the Ottoman Empire began the practice many centuries later.

@@thereseo6008 "not explained well"...tbh I would say that would be more of a subtle storytelling. Arrius' backstory was probably not considered important to show or elaborate much about in relation to the main story of the film (almost everything in the film is from Judah's POV) and the filmmakers I suspect opted to hint at it through bits of dialogue over several scenes.

@Tony63909 Surely to have better rowing performance (also if the ill man recovers). However, it is often said that historically there weren't slaves but trained rowers in those ships, because they couldn't allow the slightest lack of disciplin during a battle (rowing a trireme or a quinquereme has to be very difficult due to the small distance between the oars)

Reading the books of the New Testament, we probably asked ourselves more than once: *"Why 2000 years we do not see those miracles that accompanied the Сhurch of Christ in the I century, as described in the New Testament?"* Why do the so-called preachers of Christ have to prove that Jesus really existed and atheists boldly deny the historicity or divine origin of Christ? Maybe because the Сhurch of Christ has not existed for 2000 years?
The Сhurch does not exist in the form in which it is presented in the books of the New Testament, but there are Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and other christian sects claiming to be the place of the Church, but they not have the only thing that distinguishes the divine from the human and is characteristic of just the Сhurch of Christ -the reinforcement of the word with signs, that is, miracles (Mark 16:15-20). Therefore, some researchers doubt the historicity of Christ, and some of them are not opposed to declaring him a an ordinary philosopher, teacher. But even if Jesus were an ordinary philosopher, his disciples would be ordinary followers of Jesus. And they would not dare to write about the miracles that not only Jesus, but also his disciples, could perform. In this world, the great fertility of atheism can be explained by the fact that there is no main opponent of critics of the Bible - the Church. If there were the Church in our time as described by the authors of the New Testament books, where miracles are performed, the sick are healed, where prophesied, and the dead are raised, no one would doubt the historicity of Christ. Then there would be the same controversy throughout the world as in the first century - Jesus the Son of God or the false prophet who seduces the world by miracles. As a result, we can say that the emergence and development of christian sects and atheism was the result of the fact that over the 2000 years the Сhurch of Christ did not exist.

What is the Church of christ?

@@dvdortiz9031 You write: *"You do not see the miracles happening today that way because there is no need for them to be displayed as you wish!"* - It's not about what I want or what you want, it's about the fact that in the first century miracles accompanied the Church of Christ, and for 2000 years we see no miracles, but we see hundreds of churches claiming to be the Church of Christ.
You write: *"What is the Church of christ?"* - What can we know about the Church of Christ? What was she like? We know about the Church of Christ only what is known from the books of the New Testament. We do not know of any other Church of Christ outside the New Testament. What was the Church of Christ in the books of the New Testament? The church was a strictly hierarchical organization composed of believers baptized with the Holy Spirit, where the gifts of the Holy Spirit were manifested.
As written: *"Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues."* (1 Corinthians 12:27-28).
This was the Church of Christ in the first century, but for 2000 years we no longer see such a Church of Christ, there are no Apostles, no prophets, no one has miraculous powers and gifts of healing. But we see gatherings of people headed only by teachers speaking in the name of Christ, but not having the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said: *"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover"* (Mark 16:17-18).
There we also read: *"So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following"* (Mark 16:19-20).
I would like to draw your attention to these words: *"the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following".*
that is, miracles reinforce the word of God and they are important for the preaching of the teachings of Jesus.
For 2000 years, including our time, we have not seen any believers who have accompanied or are accompanying these signs. But in the books of the New Testament we read that in the first century, believers performed many miracles.
As written: *“And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people”* (Acts 6:8).
*“Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them”* (Acts 15:12).
*"Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city"* (Acts 8:5-8).
Where are Stephanes, Barnabas, Pauls in our time? Where is Philip, who brings great joy to the cities?
In which church do the blind gain sight? Where are the lame and bedridden jumping for the joy of being healed? Where are demons cast out? Where are the dead raised? Where are the Prophets? Where do they lay hands on the sick and get rid of sickness? Such miracles are not performed in any church, anywhere in the world.
Jesus said: *“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”* (John 14:12).
But where are these believers now doing the works of Jesus and even more than Jesus himself did?
The Church of Christ was destroyed in the first century and for 2000 years false churches appear that claim to be the Church of Christ but do not have the testimony of God, that is, miracles. It was by miracles that God testified about the Church of Christ, just as he testified about Jesus.
As written: *“Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:”* (Acts 2:22).
God testified about Jesus, and then about the Church of Christ by miracles. But the Church of Christ was destroyed in the same way as Christ was killed in due time, and therefore the signs and wonders that accompanied the Church ceased, and now She has been buried for 2000 years, but will rise in the last days as Jesus rose again.
The prophecy of the death and resurrection of the Church is present in the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13).
"Revelation" also prophesies about the emergence of the Church: *“And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:”* (Revelation 12:1).
The emergence of the Church will just be a great sign of the imminent Coming of Christ.

Actually, after the establishment of the Roman Empire, the consuls were merely a figurative representative of Rome’s republican heritage and held very little power and authority, with the emperor (Caesar) acting as the supreme leader. So it actually makes sense that a consul was on the ship. The only way your analogy makes sense is if Caesar himself was on the ship.
