Timely commentary, thanks! I'm in a casual clan that makes it pretty far into Storm every season. I play Daring and DM. With enough steel for Stalin or Somers I've been wondering which to grab. It might be Somers now. Advice appreciated!
@@AndiKola I'm prone to disagree. The Petropavlovsk has its strengths but it will definitely not be replacing the Stalingrad outright. Stalingrads and Moskvas serve two purposes, as either a nose-in tank with long rage radar, or a tanky kiting cruiser to hold down a flank. Petro will probably become the standard pick for the latter option, its 360 degree turrets being great for kiting. But for raw alpha AP damage, and the necessity for a radar? No way, Petro doesn't have the tools. It's AP is still limited by gun caliber as opposed to the Stalingrad, and it certainly doesn't have the same radar power. If anything, you'll just see clans that utilize a lot of Stalingrad/Moskvas switch one, maybe two of them to Petro's and leave the rest.
@@elgar7252 I doubt that. Stalingrad's stellar guns are not stellar because of overmatching capabilities. They are because of great penetration at all ranges, and fast shell velocity. Both properties are inherited in Petropavlovsk, and the Radar while not lasting as long as Stalingrad it;s still enough to reveal enemy ship position. Also great concealment and to not forget, Improved penetration angles.
@@AndiKola Bruh trust me - when Petro comes out, we will still be using Stalingrad in Hurricane. Petro will replace more Moskva's then it will Stalingrads. Petro is busted yes but it doesn't perform as well in the same positions. It's better for the kiting role. Stalingrad and Petro have all the same goodies, except Stalingrad get's the radar and a better health pool where Petro get's the 360 turrets. Also Stalingrad overmatches Smolensk which is pretty important in CB's right now.
I bound the "switch target lock" button to one of my side mouse buttons. Constantly spamming lock and unlock target no matter the ship I'm in, they never know what's targeting them with guns or torps.
I've Loved the Somers, our clan was supposed to join KOTS and me in my Somers but then 3 of our clanmates fell too ill and we had to retract our participation. Although i've noticed how ridicluous Kremlin is by having to land 12 torps on it to kill it.
@@DerPolygonianer Yup, meanwhile the original "brawling BB" gets wrecked by torps, gets wrecked by planes, and still has less deck armour than Kremlin.
I have been grinding the euro DD line and am finding it really hard at the beginning of rounds. Do I push and spot and get court out by the CV, or wait for first wave which annoys my team. Tough times for DD's.
It's been tough times for DDs for a long time ^^ the CV rework and the continuous proliferation of HE spammers, massive radar proliferation before that. You don't play DD if you don't want to have a hard time.
@@ainumahtar So true I think its more the attitude of team mates I find hard. I don't mind dying or low score etc it's the shit people give out like I'm not trying. Working through the EU line with new captains is very hard they are fun ships but need a lot of skill points to make them work.
I'm at 18k steel right now, I will get the Somers. Somers has some real advantages, all those torps, the American smoke, the guns are not bad, the concealment is ok. It's easy to see why it's so popular with the KoTS crowd. If Hayate is a Shimmy with Haragumo guns, that too will become a top pick.
Hayate doesn't have Harugumo guns and even if it did, it would never be anything close to the top pick. DDs in competitive are picked to provide utility and/or cap presence. I'm sure you see how Hayate fails to provide any of those, regardless of the guns it has. The only exception is Kleber, which can fulfill other roles, but that's only because it does 55 knots.
How do you do 'unaimed' torpedo attacks so accurately, is it just experience and knowing the values of each type? Is it something you can practice without being a detriment to your team? Also how do you know when to follow the indicator and when not to vs stationary targets?
The replay doesn't always show the aim cone, the shots seem to be blind but aren't. And the prediction of enemy movement becomes an instinct after a (long) while ^^
@@zlkimagenX that might've been true 3 years ago, but now the torpboat line is garbage, doubly so with ships like the Somers around. Japanese torpedo concealment is just too garbage to compete, they have mediocre guns which puts them out of meta, and ship conceal means nothing when you can get radared at the same range as your torp range or CV spotted whenever
It is easy to play like this on the weakest server in the game, it shows a replay of that in the EU or NA, in this case we can consider the tips valid.
shimakaze 20 km used to be good but some people said it toxic gameplay and bad for the game and here we saw somer doing the same shit and no one complain about it
Stealthy Icytail WOWS fanbase are bunch of hypocrites they don't know what they want , for example : they complain about Slava accuracy and shells velocity , but turn blind eyes to Thunderer which is the same but with 457 instead of 406 . They complain that newer ship lines powercreeped old ships with gimmicks and want a normal tech line with no gimmick but they also said that RN heavy CA is boring and bring nothing to the game Whinning that old RTS CV is hard and confusing and plane died too often but also complain that the new Noob frendly CV rework with infinite plane make the game cancerous
12km range on shima isn’t the best pic imo. Mine have 16km/70knts/114sec reload with basic ones (20km by default, improved with captain skills), and I don’t even have to purchase 2 upgrades of torps, wich means 5m credits saved, it’s all good ! 👌 That’s with a 19pts capt and the new +5% speed module of 9.2, but still, 16km range, 70knots and 114sec reload is by far the best choice for shima, and not the 12km. But ofc, fully agree about somers here, it’s probably the best t10 dd for competition.
Those are still the base 20km torpedoes that have some of the worst concealment in the entire game, as the torpedoes have a visibility factor of 2.5km. In comparison 12km torps have a 1.7km spotting range and Somers torps have a 1.4km. Adding torp accel on them doesn't change the base stats being the major downside, they are far from the best choice for the shima, they are in fact the worst, because their poor concealment gives ships so much time to evade them.
the shima with 16km/20KM torpedo have 2.5km spotting range which mean is about 13-14 second reaction time is the worst torpedo the shima has because it can easily be spotted relatively far and most hit happen because ship caught of guard that they 20 KM torpedo. 20km torpedo is just a for a troll built so 12km is the best torpedo shima have. the only 20km strengh is range but is useless when the enemy ship is aware not mention the torpedo spread above15km they probably have spread like wide spread launched torpedo.
Flamu meh, it’s the down side, but it’s compensated by the fact u can hit capital ships far away, not necessarily aware u aimed them and focused on something else... if u have 12km range torps, your target is obviously much more concerned by your possible presence or last known position. And 70knts, even with 2.5km dr and good reflexes or awareness, the bb probably take some of them. But sure 2.5km is a down side, nevertheless 70knts instead of 60 make them much more effective, specially if target is taken by surprise... it gives more options of gameplay with shima, and u have that great bonus u shown here with somers: sometimes, they even hit far away targets u didn’t aimed at before running out of fuel, wich is always cool 😎 😂
Gilang ferrial If u aim at far away targets, anyway u spread all 3 drops to make a wall of torps. So if they get caught within the wall, they take some of them 1-2-3, it depends... as long as u can make them forget your potential threat to the pack they form, by sailing away of the far target u hope to hit, etc etc... 70knts it’s not enough reaction time to dodge them all, specially like they do something else. And the 114reload time makes u much more dangerous than they think (less if u have adrenaline rush and get dmged as well) On the time your wall of torps reach a target or a group of ships at ~15km, u are at less than 30secs to get them reloaded as well. I got lots of strikes like that bcoz BBs underestimate the free time they have before need to be concerned by me again. And as long as u can drop these walls of torps on targets who don’t expect u to focus on them, usually the result is very good. 👍
I was never thrilled by torpedo boats... but the state of the IJN torpedo DDs is laughable... THey were supposeded to be THE torpedo focussed branch but they are the most hit and miss one... On account of their big single torp alpha, all the other parameters are between meh and bad: long reload, easy to spot, not exceptionally fast, decent range but nothing crazy... And then you get the cancer ships like Asashiowhich is a different story on account of a crappy shallow mechanic, the deep water torps (pun intended) which lack complexity depth to offer counterplay...
I would not have understood what all those map pings were trying to say. When you pinged them NOT to go north I would have taken it as meaning to PUSH more North. Most of the time Map pinging is really hard for anyone but the map pinger to understand. Obviolsy it means the map pinger wants something or is unhappy about something, but in the heat of battle it's mostly impossible to figure out what people are on about. Obviously, if I was a unicum and not a 51.5 % WR player I might be more able to figure out what the pings were meant to mean.
Since this is footage of the Russian server there is a language barrier between flamu and other players, so he has to make do with non-written communication. But you don't need to be a unicum to know you shouldn't go north on Okinawa, just to have two brain cells to rub together. Even those lacking that should understand that someone pinging them is not happy with what they're doing, and a few might even take the hint and correct their course of action; how does not matter much, since in cases like this anything would be better than their current positioning.
I'm kinda baffled i need to tell you this, but map clicking is not a good means of communication. You can't expect ppl to understand what you are trying to tell them that way. E.g. what makes you think someone wouldn't understand your pings early on as "Don't be so passive, push faster north!"?
@@Luminator_maior Come on, that's not even worth calling a comeback. Even if there is a language barrier, non-verbal communication is better than no communication. People with a functional brain don't go north of A on Okinawa in the first place, so at this point he's basically herding potatoes; no matter how they interpret his map clicking, any course of action they make take in reaction is better than their current one.
@@gaohkai9441 Really? Then how come that half way through the match he still had to complain about them being up in the north? It didn't change a goddamn thing. And that's my point: You can't expect it to, but Flamu consistently does, and i really can't see why. Yes, sometimes you can communicate non-verbally, but the message has to be simpe enough, like for example relaying RPF info through map clicking. The message "Don't go north of A on Okinawa" is most certainly not simple enough (even "don't go north" isn't), because it's way more sophisticated than "DD there".
I am from New Zealand we have no ships in the game.. So Russkis are OP why do you think the Kots teams are running mainly Russkis ships? .. It is not to hard to figure out.. Soviets get the longest range radar.. Rail guns.. Kremlin is best BB by a mile.. Stalingrad top all the stats by a mile.. Da comrade no balance issues.. why was holding nerfed? Because it could citadel the Kremlin..
Why do you pronounce it like it's Swedish or smth? Som-eeers? I think you can just say Somers. Kinda like summer(s). No special pronounciation? It does have an american flag.
Nah... SOMERS SUCK. I have run both the SOMERS and GEARING in the same ranked season... played ~250 games in the Somers then finished the last ~150 with the Gearing when I find the SOMERS untenable in the top 5 ranks. The Somers is just inferior. Why? Because everything that it does the Gearing does better. The Somers has significantly inferior guns and a lot less health which means that it is no longer mid-pack in a gun fight it is about dead last. That takes the ability to fight DDs off the table which hugely limits your options in a game. With Torpedoes you are trading faster reload for 2 more fishes in the water which is really a wash because a lot of times a faster reload is as useful as 2 additional torps which usually don't all hit anyway. The SOMERS also has basically ZERO AA which sucks big time in a CV enabled world. In the end you are basically trading all that for a little extra speed which may be OK 5 years ago, but is NOT FAST ENOUGH to make a difference in today's game full of 45-55 knot fantasy DDs.
Not worth the steel, for a boring ship that offers nothing special to the table. Some players even saw it as an american shimakaze but slightly worse in some aspects and slightly better in others. SIGH..steel is such a devalued currency compared to research points and coal. Give us the option already to buy free xp,research points, doubloons, special flags, camos with steel WG already cause it aint worth the effort when it is worth a piece of used toilet paper.
cheeky breeky psst. You can buy camo and signals with steel. The armory treats 1 steel as 10 coal. So a 6000 coal camouflage can be bought with 600 steel.
If you don't play passive and hide behind island cover you get focus HE spammed to death. No one wants to play aggressively in the open, not even French DD captains. It sucks.
What pisses me off most about it is that, despite the HE spam meta, the useful ship types that would help the team achieve victory like the BBs on this map just end up being snipey cowards that pretend they're light cruisers, and they isolate themselves from the battle, get picked off one by one, and then you lose through no fault of your own. There's a correct way to play the ship you choose, and if you're one of these A-row or 1-column morons, you're actively screwing over your entire team, HE spam or no. Instead of learning how to choose targets intelligently, choosing a good position on the map, learning to maintain angling, turret management, ammo management etc etc, they try to abuse a cover mechanic to make up for it. And it never works, yet they keep trying. You're 100% right. It absolutely goddamn sucks.
yea you are going against a CV who has below average PR of 1000 with 8.5K games played. Yea post the somers against a Good CV, you cant because you would have a shit game

Why do you use Q and E for turning? Is it just easier once you have played a while? Or does it offer some other advantage, or do you just do it because?
So he just punches the key once and not 3 times. Saves time and therefore useful.
I only use W and D when I need fine control such as when dodging incoming torpedos. Q and E the rest of the time.
Did they need the Somers? I saw video with 82 second torp reload quite awhile ago
Timely commentary, thanks! I'm in a casual clan that makes it pretty far into Storm every season. I play Daring and DM. With enough steel for Stalin or Somers I've been wondering which to grab. It might be Somers now. Advice appreciated!
Go for Somers. Stalin will be replaced effectively by Petropavlovsk as is.
Yup, that almost 50% damage reduction. Really makes you notice the difference to other BBs.
@@DerPolygonianer Yup, meanwhile the original "brawling BB" gets wrecked by torps, gets wrecked by planes, and still has less deck armour than Kremlin.
Hey Flamu, can you make a commentary on Jean Bart? You don’t have any on your channel except for the WiP version.
Just play akizuki line, they don't give a fk and can 1v1 everything
HF 1v1ing a daring or z52, a mino or a smolensk...
Omg you have to show us your 5300 base xp game!
Is Steel the only way to get the Sommers?
Will this be available through Coal?

Nice tricks... thank you for the hints.
thanks for this
Nice video and awesome game!
what is your aiming reticle/sight setting please/
For some reason it doesn't show my spotting damage. How do I fix this?
check the setting tab in game and turn on spotting damage option
Holy shit, this was a awesome gameplay :O
what is your captain setup please?
How do you get the Somers?
I still have to decide between Bourgogne and Somers and I'm afraid I wont make a decision.
Lol the domers was the ship that my uncle was on in Vietnam
What’s your build on the sommers
*Litteraly every ship flamu cripples this game

did you say Yashima instead of Shima?
I really want this ship.. Accidently used some steel cause I did not have enough coal.. And Its gonna take a while with just ranked
The only reason you're still seeing Klebers is because they're visible from space.Give it a little time.
Somers: the better Shima because no IJN torps.
Good video!
How can you get it?
Somers is fine, it only has better guns, better smoke and better torpedoes than Shimakaze. BALANCED.
Kids, before you spend your steel in this ship, Remenber KOTS HAS NO CV's... with 3 smokes in a randon game any good CV can fuck you up.
No carriers in KotS? How come, those are balanced, all you need to do to avoid them is to dodge, right Wargayming?
ehm dont the new pan eu (swedish) dds have fantastic aa ?
How do you do 'unaimed' torpedo attacks so accurately, is it just experience and knowing the values of each type? Is it something you can practice without being a detriment to your team? Also how do you know when to follow the indicator and when not to vs stationary targets?
The replay doesn't always show the aim cone, the shots seem to be blind but aren't. And the prediction of enemy movement becomes an instinct after a (long) while ^^
replay bug, sorry to tell you but he's not a god. on the other hand I suppose Flamu could make it work tho xd
so, if u play against Flamu press X between shots to untarget him and mess with his targetet number.
Wish my Asashio was this deadly :)
NO YOSHI NOOOOOOO ANGLE YOSHI ANGLE
Hold on....is this thing just a better Shimakazi?
Yes, more torp range, better guns (worse alpha) 12 torpedoes that are more reliable
@@happycatto9555 The fuck I though inj line was supposed to be the best top boats?
@@zlkimagenX that might've been true 3 years ago, but now the torpboat line is garbage, doubly so with ships like the Somers around. Japanese torpedo concealment is just too garbage to compete, they have mediocre guns which puts them out of meta, and ship conceal means nothing when you can get radared at the same range as your torp range or CV spotted whenever
Who did you bribe to have an entire game in a torpedo boat without the CV hovering rockets over you?
It's funny that americans had the worst torpedo systems throughout WW2
Overpowered american ship. We need soviet one, comrade!
i have the somers and i love this dd
It is easy to play like this on the weakest server in the game, it shows a replay of that in the EU or NA, in this case we can consider the tips valid.
shimakaze 20 km used to be good but some people said it toxic gameplay and bad for the game and here we saw somer doing the same shit and no one complain about it
Stealthy Icytail WOWS fanbase are bunch of hypocrites they don't know what they want , for example :
they complain about Slava accuracy and shells velocity , but turn blind eyes to Thunderer which is the same but with 457 instead of 406 .
They complain that newer ship lines powercreeped old ships with gimmicks and want a normal tech line with no gimmick but they also said that RN heavy CA is boring and bring nothing to the game
Whinning that old RTS CV is hard and confusing and plane died too often but also complain that the new Noob frendly CV rework with infinite plane make the game cancerous
u dont need to stay in torpedoview, just unlock ur target .
Sometimes that doesn't work..at least for me. For example when a second ship is crossing/ passing by.
hellllooo helllooooo everyone, today... :)
Top pick in competitive sure. But I don't see how she provides any special gameplay that you can't get from Gearing and Shima already.
12km range on shima isn’t the best pic imo.
Mine have 16km/70knts/114sec reload with basic ones (20km by default, improved with captain skills), and I don’t even have to purchase 2 upgrades of torps, wich means 5m credits saved, it’s all good ! 👌
That’s with a 19pts capt and the new +5% speed module of 9.2, but still, 16km range, 70knots and 114sec reload is by far the best choice for shima, and not the 12km.
Gilang ferrial
If u aim at far away targets, anyway u spread all 3 drops to make a wall of torps. So if they get caught within the wall, they take some of them 1-2-3, it depends... as long as u can make them forget your potential threat to the pack they form, by sailing away of the far target u hope to hit, etc etc... 70knts it’s not enough reaction time to dodge them all, specially like they do something else.
And the 114reload time makes u much more dangerous than they think (less if u have adrenaline rush and get dmged as well)
On the time your wall of torps reach a target or a group of ships at ~15km, u are at less than 30secs to get them reloaded as well.
I got lots of strikes like that bcoz BBs underestimate the free time they have before need to be concerned by me again.
And as long as u can drop these walls of torps on targets who don’t expect u to focus on them, usually the result is very good. 👍
TIL: 3250 = 3.3K. Come one man. You don't have to sell yourself as a good player by rounding up. LMAO
as always, you're the best CC out there, ty for the vid flamu
Flamu can you please test new ships
A minute is not 100 sec
Seriously, why even bother grinding the silver ships anymore? The premium IX and X ships are leaps and bounds ahead of their silver counterparts.
You need the silver ships to get the gold ships
Even those lacking that should understand that someone pinging them is not happy with what they're doing, and a few might even take the hint and correct their course of action; how does not matter much, since in cases like this anything would be better than their current positioning.
its summers not so-mers REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I'm kinda baffled i need to tell you this, but map clicking is not a good means of communication. You can't expect ppl to understand what you are trying to tell them that way. E.g. what makes you think someone wouldn't understand your pings early on as "Don't be so passive, push faster north!"?
This is RU server. If you write in english, players will not listen to you.
@@nenad8845 Well, to quote Captain Jingles: "Tough luck, sunshine."
Even in games a Finnish has beaten a Russian.
maybe you should have used the chat to tell them?
He doesn't have a russian keyboard. I doubt they would understand it.
CL reload rate...hmmm
And americans are the first ones to whine about russian bias.
I’m pretty it’s pronounced soh-mers not suh-mers.
No Idea how to get 15-20000 K steel 😳
Ranked seasons, special events, ranked sprints. Clan battles, too, at a high level.
Aaron Sokolowski Yeah I saw that but 200 steel earned is a lonnnnnng way from earning 20K
You can also get steel in supercontainers. Not a reliable way to get them but if it happens, hooray.
NotTheATF oh ! Ok thanks!
Nice game flamu but it wouldnt work on eu and if the cv was horny at you
No one knows what you mean when you ping them.
I'm rapidly getting sick of potatoes sailing up north on Okinawa and similar maps. Wtf is this? A new flanking meta? It's trash.
As always, extremely useful and informative, Flamu. Keep up the good work.
