I know this is crazy to say but I appreciate this. This video gives a true insight into the hobby because sometimes things just dont go according to plan. Most YT vids will show everything going perfectly but that is just not realistic. Thank you for posting this and sharing your struggles. Good luck on the next build!
I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. Sometimes things just don't work out and if you're not happy with the tank then there's no use keeping it running and around. Looking forward to showing you the replacement scape!
@@SimplyAquascaping I just hope people understand it's not the end of the world if things go bad. We all have a scape, or two, like this at some point in the hobby.
Kudos for showing a ‘failure’ on screen. Stay patient with new scapes, sometimes it takes 3+ months before a tank will find its balance and start to grow the way we want it to. Crypts are notorious for starting slow and melting a lot before growth.
Cryptocorynes are known for melting. So they melt almost every time in a new scape. But the roots still alive. And new leafs appears several weeks after the planting.
This is true, I think the crypts weren’t the best planting choice and that’s on me, but all in all I really just wasn’t feeling the scape. I didn’t have that “accomplished” feeling when I was done scaping.
Hey brother, I actually think this scape's bones and concept are solid. But is sounds like you're moving on. Here's something odd, as I'm watching your video I realized I was wearing the same tee-shirt as you - small world!
Thank you my friend! In the end it just wasn’t making me happy and I’m much happier with the new look I’ve got in it now. Also, haha MossCotton for the win! You can use my code “simply10” for 10% off your next purchase with them if you want 🤙
Pity it didnt work out. I actually really like the layout so its a pity youre redoing it. Heard wolf stone (or amelia stone here down under) really ups the TDS so maybe thats why it didnt go so well
There are special soil scoops with holes in it to remove aquasoil. Far better system then a starbucks cup. Second, you don't use the gel type aquascape glue for hardscape but the liquid form. The gel type is for the plants. Third , clean your glass before you scape . Fourth : that stone on the far right is to big for the scape ..... Fifht : in the beginning you said you are using the soil to make some hight because the plants you were going to plant are growing not that tall ..... well I can tell you that cryptocoryne Balansea grows very tall .... up to 50 cm. ........you're welcome. PS : just to answere the question at the end of the video 'what went wrong' ..... You used three types of plants that basically hates light ..... that light You used even on 60 or 80% is far to much for these plants , with an algae fest as a result.
i commend you for being willing to share your failures, but if MD can post an hour video where 45 minutes is him talking to matt about rocks and still get views, you can post a 20 minute video of a scape lol
This hobby isn’t all sunshine and daisies and sometimes people sugarcoat it too much. I agree that I could have gone longer, but creating the anticipation is good too.

I thinks it’s good to see we have scapes that just go wrong. It’s part of the process. Excited to see next week’s video.
I think there are several things I could have done differently, but in the end I’m happy that I took it down and did something different.

It's interesting how some tanks just fail even when you replicate stuff you've done 100 times before.
Looking forward to seeing the next one!
It just goes to show you that nothing is promised and that every tank is different in its own way. Looking forward to showing you the next one!

Indeed. I’m much happier with the new layout though if I’m honest.

Those shrimp are beautiful
I love them! They’re quite shy though

Maybe so! Tbh I just never had that good feeling about it after I finished scaping it. I’m much happier with the new layout in it now!
