Lovely reaction. I’ve just discovered your channel and will now subscribe. The pencil drawings that appear partway through were drawn by Ian Dury himself. Sadly he passed away 23 years ago. I was lucky enough to see them live the year before he died. Definitely a reason to be cheerful. Thanks for such a great reaction. Your smile and enthusiasm has brightened up a very difficult day for me. Love and light.
P.s. I was Lucky enough to see Ian Dury and the B.H's live in a LONDON pub before I came to Oz. It was a Wild Night everyone really went Nuts..! Including me..! Thx for the Memerories and that Smile. Again..! 😎
I'm late to this particular party but thanks for doing a reaction to Ian. He was a real champ for people with challenges WITHOUT becoming some insufferable, contrived poster boy and he had a helluva rythym section, no doubt. Your smile is infectious btw and keep being you, because you is perfect. :)
i saw Ian Dury and the Blockheads at a Madstock in London 30 years ago. thats a reason to be cheerful. and so was seeing/hearing that again, i needed that, danced me right out of bed. i think when they sing 'why don't you get back into bed?' it means if you aint dancing...
19 degrees here and I have a fan pointed at me! "The smile of a parrot" "and rollerskates! are both lovely. Also that gorgeous 'pok!' snare sound. Oh! And hearing you roll your Rs when you speak English makes me happy too. :)
Feeling a little Down on a Wet Day in Australia 18°c. I watched the Live version to Cheer up..! And a Bonus I found you, have Subscribed and 👍 Thank you for your Smile..! Kim in a Soggy Adelaide. 😎
Lovely lady but no way could she understand the slang or the cultural references. 'Nuddy', 'chokey', 'slap'n'tickle' etc. Sadly she didn't even seem to pick up on it when he mentioned Steve Biko.
None of us in NYC back then could understand his accent and use of cockney slang. But this song was hot in all of the clubs and discos and high on the charts through the 80s here. I didn't hear Steven Biko either and I've been listening to this song since it came out so don't go there it's about his delivery not Steven Biko. It's about a really great song by Ian Dury and Chaz Jankel.
@@luckydave328 you're not agreeing your trying to make a shady issue on us not picking up a black leaders name which is one of Ians "Reasons to be Cheerful" in the song, not a point of mentioning in commentary on how great , funky and ahead of its time the song is. If he had said my name I wouldn't have understood his accent as I can barely understand her accent. In his song Rhythm Stick his delivery is slower so the lyrics are heard clearer. So to be clear everyone is here for the video reaction except you who want the her to say something about Biko. She never said that, but you stated "she could never understand" . ITS ABOUT THE MUSIC REVIEW and positivity.
@@2463sugarbear Thanks for the heavy, unrestrained judgement and lecture. You don't know me and you don't get my angle. I'm a huge fan and have been since Kilburn and the Highroads. I am right in thinking most people outside of UK would not understand a lot of the lyrics but the names should leap out. That's all. "Don't get yer knickers in a twist" as Ian might have said.
@@2463sugarbear btw my comment was referring to the fact that the lady is from South Africa where Biko is a hugely renowned and venerated hero of the freedom struggle. Maybe Ian's pronunciation was not clear enough. It is you who mentioned colour. You Americans are generally obsessed about it. It's a national sickness.
You are the first person who has reacted to this song as far as I know. Credit to you for that!
There have been a few good reactions to this, but this is by far my favourite!
Such a brilliant band. With a sense of humour.
The best song by the brilliant Ian and the block heads ...
Anyone who has lists of reasons to be cheerful has my admiration. ❤❤❤❤
So many reasons to be cheerful in life, my motto for this year is "Pain in life is inevitable, but happiness is a choice"

You made me cheerful today. I had not planned on smiling.
Glad I deed
This is more or less how I reacted first time I heard this song about 40 years ago! You seem so cheerful too!

I love the way the whole thing takes off and flies away at the end.

Reasons to be cheerful . You must be part 4 .
So glad you enjoyed this song, this was a top tune back in school days
Watched the Blockheads play (sadly Ian had passed away by then) in Darwen, Lancashire. They where still great, even with a backing singer.
I just love the crazy poetry, with a really funky band.
Very unique.
I luv this song and your reactions always make me cheerful. 😊
Aww! Thank you ❤️
No, thank you 😁👍
The Blockheads were pretty much the best funk band in England. Imho.
Mickey Gallagher was easily the equal of Nile Rogers IMO.
@@thewomble1509 yes, very smooth the entire trio was always "Tight"

Ian Dury One of your Reason to be cheerful
Glad you loved it, and you clearly did. :-)

Top choice! Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll, is another great one by them:)
Thanks for this suggestions, I will be sure to check it out
@@africareact The classic Ian Dury album is "New Boots and Panties". What a Waste is another Ian Dury classic.
Can you dig it !!!!
Spittin bars
Letraset was the best thing ever.
Try "Waiting for a Train" - Flash and the Pan.
@Winston Smith. That's a great choice! Also, "Down Among The Dead Men" and "Hey, St. Peter", especially.
Nice one.
Glad you enjoyed it
Could you review "The Body Song?"
At 2 minutes the 30 the actual reaction begins.
