    For every Brit thats failed when moving to Thailand theres also one thats made it a success. Thailands great if your over 50 and qualify for a retirement visa have met a good woman outside the bar scene and you can control your need for beer . Get these in place and theres no better place to end my days .

      @@johnshores6061 By far the vast majority of Expats married 20+, 30+ years are married to Ex BG’s and if they are happy so what. I watched a few YTer’s who feel the need to explain how they met. A couple of Brits I can think of are one who says he met his wife who is from an Isaan village on a flight to London and she already had a UK passport from an Ex but he doesn’t say how she met the Ex. Another says his wife also from an Isaan village who speaks very good English worked in a Bank in Bangkok. Both of these wive’s also have a sister who are business women in Germany and have built very nice houses next to the family in the village. What they never say though is how they got to Germany and I can only think they have a German partner who Sponsored them and guess how they met the partner sponsors. The comments in the How We Met Vid always say how good it is they not with a BG but a lot of other comments have been deleted. I don’t care if they are Ex BG’s or not but I don’t like liars or those who pretend things are what they are not and as for those who swallow these stories they shouldn’t be allowed to go anywhere without an adult accompanying them.

I loved it there, in Chaiyaphum it was fantastic , lovely friendly people, had a fantastic woman , who looked after me and never had a sick cow. Those who know Thailand will understand.
    Ill health meant I could not go back and I miss my woman and my friends (Thais) immensely. Kop khhn kap Thailand.

    Depends what sort of life you want … when I go to Thailand I volunteer at an elephant sanctuary, feed the monks and pick fruit for free . If your someone that goes to Pattaya or hang out in bars you will get ill or run out of money . Rent your home in Uk and rent in Thailand live like a king for £800 a month 😊

      Maybe so , you are obviously one of the success story but there are many 40 to 50 yr old men who go on one holiday to Pattaya or Phuket and then sell all the possessions and think that life will be easy in Thailand.
      Maybe for the first year but then reality wil bite

  • @SteveSmith-zo4ml

    A lot of people won’t listen to your warning, but they should. The issues you raise are valid and need full consideration. Especially money and I doubt if many people in their forties and early fifties have enough cash and assets to sell to fund themselves for the next 30-40 years. I think you really need a very good occupational pension. That means at least 60 years old. And for most people, also a place to return to in the UK if you can’t get or afford health insurance and fall seriously ill (which eventually we all do). Or cash and assets that you can draw on to pay Thai hospital bills.

    • @Robinredchest
      @Robinredchest  9 дней назад

      Men especially go to Thailand on holidays initially and sample the fruits of Pattaya and patong and that image never leaves their thoughts , others retain the memory of the islands and the Thai culture .
      Life in England , Scotland , Ireland has become unbearable for most people and to the point of breakdowns , depression and even suicide and in men especially, so Thailand becomes a last resort of happiness

  • @armunro

    Its all down to planning and having a plan B if it does not work out and not cutting bridges to go back. I would say you can't cut ties to the UK as you have your money or pension or family there so you need to maintain an address there. Also very unlikely you will ever be Thai or permanent residence in Thailand so need to be resident somewhere like the UK.

    If you have problems to solve….don’t come to solve them….and yes if you’re skint and not retirement age you’ll have a hard time getting on…but selling everything and retiring on a pension etc is perfectly fine in many a country if you’re tired of the BS in your home country…

    • @IsaanMan
      @IsaanMan 12 дней назад +2

      @@soiraider2201The guy has a point as they can change the requirements anytime they want and/or stop issuing visas and extensions. We are only Expats here as Expats are people who stay in a foreign Country on temporary status regardless how many times that is renewed or extended. Immigrants are those who obtain permanent residence. I can only think of some 3rd world Countries that give retirement visas to Expats with modest income and Thailand is no longer a 3rd world Country. So I think sooner or later they will cancel the retirement visas. The Pattaya Mail did an article a week or so ago saying in the last 20 odd years the number of us on retirement and marriage visas has roughly halved so hopefully if they did cancel the retirement visa they would grandfather those of us on them and let us continue and just die out if not those of us who are married could change to marriage visas.
