This panel explores the politics and legacy of African American artists, both of Charles Gaines’s generation and after, who use strategies of conceptual art to investigate identity, representation, and American culture. The panel also considers the impact of past exhibitions that examined black conceptual practices and questioned what constitutes a “black aesthetic.” With speakers Thelma Golden, director and chief curator, the Studio Museum in Harlem; Hamza Walker, associate curator and director of education, The Renaissance Society, Chicago; and artist Rodney McMillian.

Soo...are any of these curators going to write the history? I wonder...when will those who are the most knowledgeable about how black people navigate the artistic space...when will these people write the books?
Even more than that, write it for human beings. History spreads best when a good story is told. So write the history in a way that people will not get dizzy from an abundance of extravagant explinations.

Writing books on Black art TRUstories takes an incredible about of time. As curator-directors and artist-curators doesn't leave a much time to write well-researched scholarly books on Black art TRUstory especially without an advance from a publisher or department in an institution.
There are dozens and dozens of books out there on Black art by Black artists and/or Black curators and historians. You just have to get up/out and look for them.
Also no one is writing serious book about art - Black art or otherwise in a remedial tone.
Otherwise, publisher won't bother to publish them. Schools won't have them as class texts...
The creation and role if art throughout the world is invaluable, necessary and extremely complex.
No one's spending years and 100s of hours in research to write a "baby" book about Black art - unless it's for babies/children.
