  • It has been a bleak period for the mining, metal clothing and textile sector with workers facing an uncertain future. Recently, the mining and metals company, Sibanye-Stillwater announced restructuring process potentially affecting more than three thousand employees and over nine hundred contractors. As we mark International Workers Day today, we reflect on how workers in the mining and manufacturing sectors have been impacted in the past 30 years of our country's democracy. We are joined virtually by Andre Kriel, Spokeperson of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU), Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, Spokesperson of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) and Ndumiso Kubheka, Chief Economist at KH Research Equity Partners. Good morning.
