Learning a few Skyrim/Witcher tunes on guitar lead me down a rabbit-hole that has me wanting to buy a bouzouki (not for the first time, but the choices between irish/greek bouzoukis and octave mandolins got confusing, so I put the idea to bed for a while). Now just trying to decide between the model you have and the 'concert bouzouki' on Thomann for around £50 more. On the photos on the site, looks like the latter is tuned in unison wheras yours is in octaves?
Awesome playing dude! I have a few questions. Is that a Hora bouzouki? If so, would you consider this to be a good beginner bouzouki? How does the tuning hold up and did you have to do any work on it as far as action adjustment?
Hi mate , Yes it is Hora bouzouky. Now i have a new one and its from the same factory but it's called thomann bouzouky. if you can invest a bit more money buy the thomann bouzouky , it's a lot better and you would be surprised by the quality . I think it's great for beginners and and far beyond that. the action is good but I had some intonation problems on this old one. Nevertheless it's a good instrument but the new thomann bouzouky is just better and the bridge is not fixed on the new one so you can adjust the intonation easily . www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_irish_concert_bouzouki.htm
Dear Strigon, thanks a lot for sharing your beautiful songs with us. I have one question, probably your are playing your bouzouki with the tuning ddad right? I was thinking to buy her also, but isnt it better to have a guitar with 10 strings? Than the tuning dadad would be possible and there would be the additional A-base line on top. Do you know what I mean? Doest that make sense? Or is it enough to have a bouzouki with 8-string with DDAD? Thanks a lot, greetings XXX
For this style of playing (when you strum all string in one stroke) is best to have less strings (double strings) as possible and less bass as possible, Sometimes 3 double strings are enough like on Saz. Also fingering is easy. This DDAD is just mutation of standard DAD tunning
@@strigon7960 Thanks a lot for your answer ! Alright good to know, but maybe you know the Song "Ai Vis Lo Lop" from In Extremo? Here the singer is playing a 10-string cittern. It sounds quite similar to bouzouki, I think it should be dadad tuning. I was just thinking on the additional A-Bassline in this case, maybe you can play than more complex things? Here you can see it: ruclips.net/video/Y8j-I4qaM2o/видео.html Greetings Jerihon
@@dominiklewitzki5458 Yep, sounds nice but it has a lot of drone strings. Yes you might be able to play more complex tunes but it depends. I like to keep things simple and make some room for other instruments in the band.
Hi mate , well I had bouzouky tuned like guitar and it sounded like guitar, then I figured out some drone tunning that fits this kind of music. It's called Drone tunning. It's used on SAZ and also on on other instruments , the idea is that one tone always rings below the melody. I use DDAD tunning.
+Микита Чумак Yes but I had no intention to do sucessfull videos :D They turned to be pretty popular I guess :D well I am thinking about some fullband covers so we will see In the future :) thanx
