- Dustin Diamond's "Saved by the Bell" family is mourning his death at age 44. The actor, who was best known for his portrayal of Samuel "Screech" Powers on the hit sitcom, died on Feb. 1, less than a month after he was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. Mario Lopez, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Elizabeth Berkley were among those who shared tributes to their former co-star.

Aside from Mario, everyone gave him their backs and now they all of a sudden have words to say. I never liked when they would reunite and leave him out. Regardless of the drama, Dustin’s contribution to “save by the bell” was huge and important. May you Rest In Peace Dustin.
With all due respect Dustin said some really cruddy things about them with A tell all book. I always sensed he resented they ability to grow , and have career’s outside, and he was stuck in this role.
i had thought they didn't like him and that's why they didn't want him or Lark in the reboot.
But if they didn't pay tribute they would be criticized so it makes no difference what that would of said but they r still Hippocrates for not trying to make amends with him before he died
Yes, he said and did a lot of things that make him look awful but he talked about always felling left out. When they filmed the show he felt left out because everyone hung out without him because he was younger. As an adult, he saw how the others would move on with other role and he couldn’t get away from being Screech. I’m not trying to excuse what he did but I do believe it was a result of what he was going through. Then, he gets diagnosed with a terrible illness and dies soon after. I just wished they could have patched things up. I wonder how he felt when he found out about the SBTB sequel/ reboot. If I felt upset, I bet he felt rage.

I agree. It’s nice that they had nice words for him but some of it sounds like lies when you know there was problems. It just really sucks that the classic 6 SBTB friends are now minus 1. On another note, I hope Lark Voorhies’ situation gets better and hopefully be a part of any further SBTB reunions and such.
I always feel sad that people will never know how much they are loved and appreciated until they are no longer with us

I agree. I was reading some of his cast members tributes to him. They sound so fake. It's amazing how people say to much about the person after they have passed. I'm not sure but I don't think anyone other than maybe Mario kept in contact with him. Dustin wasn't a perfect person but I really felt sorry for him, I don't think his life was what he thought it would turned out to be

@@MauriceCharles BECAUSE HE ASKED FOR TOO MUCH MONEY!! Why does this continue to get grazed over in the internet's nauseating attempt to coddle this grown man (RIP). According to Lark, he was approached about appearing in the first season, and he asked for substantially more money than anyone in the cast was making, so NBC declined.

@brdman I’m sorry to hear about your mother. Unfortunately it’s A lie they say to comfort friends, and family. The truth is since no person can explain what dying is like nobody knows. My mother died of A bad brain cancer years ago, and there is nothing you could possibly say to make it easier.
@brdman he did not really suffer but did suffer. When his health get worst, hospital Most likely put him in medical induce coma. So he won’t try to freak out or feel the pain

Kobre Bryant from the basketball team the Lakers died in a helicopter crash last year on January 26, 2020 along with his daughter. Alex Tribek from Jeopardy died last month in December from cancer, and Tiny Lister Jr who played in the movie called Friday as the neighborhood bully died recently too from COVID19 symptoms.
Life is just too short and you never know what tomorrow may bring. We must enjoy life and live in the present because the future is not promised to us.

I am 50/50 when people post comments like these when someone has passed. I mean, we are all busy and worried about our own lives and families. Then again, it doesn’t hurt to check on others once in a while.
I grew up watching this show. Dustin will be missed. For some of the young folks out there, this was a hit show in the late 80s and early 90s.
Born in 2004 but like this was my favorite series, I would watch this when I would come home from school, even when me and my family traveled, I would bring my dvd player and some seasons of saved by the bell

I agree. I definitely think they are grieving over that, hence the fragility of life comments. Mario is to be admired, he had the worst gossip in that book, and he still went to reconcile, which shows it was probably worse. People handle things differently, Mario’s was public, the others could have done so more privately
Dustin and Lark would have been welcomed back if they got their lives in order. There was talk about Dustin joining Season 2.
The cast besides Mario never even considered him or defended him. Saved by the bell would have been dull without him.
To be fair they all didn’t owe anything to each other at all. Him saying what he said and writing a book(that was the inspiration for the Unauthorized Bio) was his choice. We all decide who we forgive and don’t forgive. Lark (Lisa) had a pretty hard time herself and it just goes to show that they grew up and apart, just like high school friends. It’s hard to defend someone you no longer know or who said you were a jerk, a prick, cocky, stupid, a drunk... all of that.

The only 'silver lining' to the recent death of Dustin Diamond is that he was afforded the opportunity to celebrate his forty-fourth birthday several weeks prior.
@Julio Mateo He probably had that for a while without noticing it, but I also read how he ignored a lump on his throat and was afraid to go to the hospital due to the possibilty of receiving negative press and also because of the pandemic

They didn't turn their backs on her. Lark suffered mental issues and she retired from acting in 2011. She was unable to do the reunion on Fallon she said. She was involved in the 2009 20th anniversary cover shoot for People Magazine. With the new series, the creators didn't originally include her because she was retired. With Diamond, they said he wasn't included because he was demanding too much money. Wanted to be paid more than the others. They were working on getting him in on season 2. His cast members do not make those decisions. They had issues but go watch Mark Paul's interview a day after Diamond passed. He talked about how on shows they end and some cast members just to not stay in touch. Do you think every tv show ever made the cast members throughout the rest of their lives are close friends?

The saddest thing is that when Dustin announced he had cancer, there were some who didn't believe him because he was known as a pathological liar. Did things for media attention. Sadly it was true and he lost his battle very quickly.

Even friend drift apart. When the series ended, Dustin was still 19. The cast went their separate ways and NO they did not all remain close friends for all of those years. Read their interviews. Elizabeth Berkley didn't keep in tough and later reconnected with everyone. Mario also didn't stay in contact with Diamond. They reconnected in 2016 when Lopez interviewed him.

I wS shaking my head through the entire thing. It wasn't exactly a secret that none of the cast members liked him from the get go, mostly because he was age as he was around 3 years younger then the rest of the cast but there were other issues.

My long distant college years now a little more dimmer following Dustin's sad tragically fast passing. Loved watching Saved by the Bell in-between classes in the early 90s. RIP

Sad. He had unusual look so the character had to be funny and geeky. Yeh he was the comic relief of that show. Just like high school the pretty popular kids stick together and cut out the unusual one. But well we never really know whole story. Mario seems to have kept in close contact with him.

So after more than a decade of hand waving the dude away, calling him trash, and phasing him out of the recent reboot (which is exactly what he accused them of doing in the past) now that he's dead they're all "he was a great dude". I was in tears when I heard that Dustin was no longer with us. My grandparents are huge fans of Saved by the Bell and were in total shock when they found out he passed away. And shame on the other members of the show for leaving him out in reunions, you turned your backs on him and now you’ll have to live with the guilt of it. He was the funniest character on the show and now he has left this world…

Aside from Mario every one of these cast members of his are fake and turned their backs on him years ago. I'd be surprised if they bothered to reach out to him when they found out about his diagnosis. Probably not
Relationship is nuance, there were things done on both sides,but I feel the emotions shared by these is not false. They did care, why do you think they reacted so badly when they felt he betrayed them? It hurts to step away from someone you love when they are behaving in ways that are toxic, believe me. It hurts more when you never get to reconcile. Plus, life changes relationships, we aren't always close to those we once were, but love and memory never dies.

Lark wasn’t asked right away for similar reasons but when they found out she was stable, she is invited in and they can celebrate her recovery....we don’t know the whole story. Also, all of them have families and just weren’t as close to him, maybe they had forgiven, but privately. I am sure they are all grieving. Are you close to all the people you went to high school with?
I don't see how them sharing condolences is wrong. They shared memories of when they started out. None of them said they were friends. I have people in my life who I genuinely do not like, or communicate in any way, but wish them no ill will.

Imagine being Dustin trying to make a living after being typecast as Screech. Yea he made some desperate bad decisions but you really can’t blame him. Everyone else got opportunities after the show except him.

How is it in bad taste? They had issues with things he said but he was a human being. He died. Just because they had issues doesn't mean they are not saddened by his loss. Problem with his passing is too many believe the media b.s. and act like Dustin was the saint, they were the bad people.
His cast also were not the ones at fault. Bad taste is Dustin putting out a book trashing them and later admitted it was all made up. He said Mario was a drug addict, slept with people at NBC. Said Mark Paul was roided out. That is bad taste. Can you blame them for taking issue with that, things Dustin admitted were lies? Stabbing someone, making fake porn is bad taste. Dustin was well known as a liar, a con man. He conned people, including fans, out of money. As for the new show...his co-stars had no control over that. They didn't create the show. They do not make casting decisions. Dustin WAS invited to appear but he demanded to be paid more than everyone. That is why he wasn't on the show. Mario confirmed two days ago that Dustin was in talks to appear on season 2.

Late teens is still a part of the childhood. It's the bridge between being a kid and entering YOUNG adulthood. If she watch it, she watched it. Not everyone who watched it was 12 and under.
no one U know she was 18 when the show started which is technically an adult. Also childhood implies very young like even before puberty typically when people use that word.
That show came out after I got out of High School. (7 years after I graduated). I watched it every now and then. Dustin sure was funny and played his character great. It's very nice that his former co stars of Saved by the Bell were thinking about him. He went way to soon. May Dustin Diamond R.I.P

I remember when Paul Mark Gosselaar and Mario Lopez was playing in the tv serie "Save by the bell" from the 8o-9o centery.The actor Dustin Diamond was also was playing in this tv serie.But in the beginning of the year 2021 Dustin Diamond was starting to be ill.And in february the 1st the same year was the party over for Dustin Diamond.And Iam happy that I got the exsperience that time. When Dustin Diamond was creative as actor.And I still hope that Paul Mark and Mario Lopez would be actors in the future.

Truly and deeply saddened, same age as myself, always been a huge fan of the whole cast of saved by the bell Dustin played the role of Screech to an iconic perfection he will be greatly missed, but I am glad he didn't suffer R. I. P. Dustin, my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. As for cancer screw you cancer you have taken many family and friends from me including my dad when I was 10.
