This set off so many triggers for me, but I needed to watch it. I lost so many friends, as well as my first long-term lover, to AIDS. My current husband of 31 years is HIV+, but healthy and undetectable. It was such a tumultuous time, and one that those of us that survived will never, ever forget....

As a young 18 year old queer girl, I cannot express with words how thankful I am that such courageous people fought before me for rights and an acceptance that I am now able to benefit from. Fights are certainly far from over, still I'm grateful that Tyler took the time to do a second season of "Chosen Family" this year and include in it informations about past resilience as a way to motivate my generation as well. Such a heartwarming community, really.

And I still see people calling you an irrelevant youtuber and I honestly don't understand how something this meaningful can be "irrelevant" just because it doesn't get the reach it deserves. I am so thankful that you make these videos, invest your money into going places and doing things instead of just sitting in a room and just making challenges that keep your views up. as a queer woman, I honestly feel like I owe it to the previous lgbtq+ folks before me to not only educate myself on queer history, but to also honor and embrace it. So much of this has been swept under the rug, I just want their legacy to be known and I’m so thankful for them!! we wouldn’t have any of our progress today if it wasn’t for them!!

I was in a city (I am not saying which) and I saw people that were getting bullied for being gay, lesbian, etc. and one was rushed to the hospital. I bursted into tears running and one saw me and stopped and told the others to run once he held the bullies back. He later chased me down and hugged me. That is a day I’ll never forget.

My uncle suffered with AIDs for roughly 8 years before his life was taken from pneumonia. His body was weak, and he already had enough. Ever since I was a little girl, I was never afraid of him. I didn't care that he had a disease. He was my uncle, my favorite person in the world. I remember he nicked himself while shaving and I tried to touch him (I was a really small toddler) saying "Ouch, uncle." And he slapped my hand away, screaming "NO". I ran off crying my eyes out, and what I didn't realize was he was on the bathroom floor bawling as my mother consoled him. I was more scared that he snapped at me. These kinds of videos really mean a lot to me because it shows me that there's love and acceptance for something that's so frowned upon. Thank you for making this video, it really resonated with me.

I am a long term survivor living with aids since 1984. I have lost so many friends and two lovers to the disease. Now, at the age of sixty, I have been diagnosed with a cancer that will take my life within a couple of years. I just want to thank you, Tyler, for this and your other videos that shine a light on LGBTQ history. As a community we need to know our history - where we come from. It is our legacy that made us what we are today.

This is so inspiring, how people can act for equality, peace, and freedom worldwide. I am 23 and I just come out as gay to my family and friends, due in large part to your videos, Tyler, that made me feel much more stronger. Thank you so much. You inspired me to want to give my contribution to the lgbtq+ family and to make this world a better one.

I work at a non-profit and one of the populations we serve is those with HIV/AIDS. We have a program called "The Positive Life Workshop" to help the community, one is being held at the GMHC right now.
