The real problem here isn't those asking for reparations which they do not deserve, it is those who listen to them and treat them seriously.
They are the same problem, and it's in other issues as well : Everybody feels concerned with problems, issues, fights and guilts that aren't theirs. It's... All over society.
White people were enslaved in Rome, conquered by vikings, forced to war in the middle ages, indentured servants in the Americas, lost everything in the Civil War, lost their jobs and money to bank runs until the FDIC came about in the 1930s, lost their homes in the Great Recession, etc. History sucked for everyone. Our ancestors were resilient. What exactly is the timeline threshold for being owed money from our ancestors' woes?
At a time when having male children were a necessity to help in farming or business, my family lost two or three young men and really never fully recovered post ACW. No mention of that, no recognition of the sacrifices of the whites who ended slavery here. Those reparations seekers never talk about it.

Turks nowadays are Greek/Russian/Anatolian. What happened to a thousand years of black slave trade? WHERE are their children? The castration operation may have offed two out of every three who underwent it. Use of massive numbers of black slaves for agriculture resulted in a massive slave revolt. Slave soldiers were used all over the Arab world. The Turks' elite troops were Slavs and Greeks enslaved as children. Black slave troops were used in Spain and North Africa but not elsewhere, not in big numbers. My feeling is that you are right and most black slaves that ended east of Egypt were castrated.

It might seem a bit too violent and gory for it to be true, but remember back in those times women were seen as property and well those were very bloody times.

Slavery became one of the amendments in the US Constitution (13th amendment). It never ended. Why do you think so many blacks are incarcerated...13th amendment is a loophole to continue with slavery through the penal system. Yes, there is your cheap labor market at work. Also, US slavery didn't see slaves as humans. I believe the truth is adequate reparation.

The European slave traders didn't want to leave the ships. Because there was no cure for malaria or the other disease's that they encountered there. It would be a lot of work to track down potential slaves and get them onto the ships. It was easier to buy them from other blacks. Which they did. They actually started buying slaves from countries in the middle east before they cut out the middle man and went to the African villages to buy them from other Africans.
The extent to which black tribes sold Africans to Europeans for slave trade was marginal at best.. Europeans owned all the ships, controlled all the shipping of slaves, and then created a form of chattel slavery which was a racialized, perpetual, hereditary form of slavery specifically for people of African descent which was, In my opinion the most brutal type of slavery in human history. Yeah, that part somehow doesn't get mentioned enough either.

My ancestors were run out of Ireland by starvation even as England exported food from Ireland to England and other countries. Ethnic cleansing! They came to America with nothing and lived lives of poverty as day laborers. Many signed up to fight the south in the Civil War, not because it was their war but it gave them pay. They were discriminated against here in America for many years. Do I get reparations for their sufferings from England? Can I bring a case of discrimination against the USA? No, and no and they wouldn't want me to be such a weak person making money off their backs. They could have ended up in the workhouses in Ireland and died, but they journeyed on the death ships and made it here. I'm proud to carry their genes and grateful for their endurance through adversity. Stand tall and do your ancestors proud instead of belly aching about the past. The word "slave" comes from "slavic" self reference to the Slavic people of Slovenia and throughout Europe used as slaves by Spanish Muslim community. Starting in the early 1800s Freed slaves were given the opportunity to return to Africa (Colonization societies were set-up (by white people) that funded transportation to and setup of colonies for freed slaves in Africa (primarily in Liberia) while some did return most did not.

As a young Gen Z man, my generation has become way too concerned with fake social issues that are only a front for entitlement and greed. Universities now have pretty much completely destroyed any civil discourse in the classroom. You’re not taught how to critically think anymore, you’re taught WHAT to think. There's 3 monarchies running their own little countries inside the African Union(AU), there's about 6 different types of government's across the continent. Few of them really get the support they need from the central government and their local municipalities are struggling to keep themselves going. Combine that with land barons selling entire towns to companies to set up new factories or etc, with a built in (forced) labor force. The idea that some people think slavery is something that only affected their race is ignorant. To expect another race be held accountable instead of the ones responsible and pay reparations is plainly asinine.
My grandparents (among many others) sued for and got reparations for the industrial extermination of their own parents, siblings and children, and the property literally stolen from them en-masse by the government of Germany. At the time, the vast majority of adults living in Germany had either directly supported the regime that performed the extermination in one way or another, or did nothing to stop it. The money my grandparents received was barely enough to help them live a modest life - while still working for a living - in a crappy apartment building that had been hastily built to accommodate them and others who barely managed to escape that extermination. I feel that they were justified in asking for that money, and that the German government at the time (1950s/60s) had the obligation to pay it.
And yet, had they never received a penny, I would never in my wildest dreams even consider asking a single German living today to pay for any of it. There has to be a limit, and that limit is reached when neither you nor the people you want to pay had even been alive when it happened. There are many cultures around the world that believe in generation-spanning feuds as justified - as a a way of life - and it's not a coincidence that you would not want to trade a life in the West in exchange for living in _any_ of those cultures.
When I was a student at California State University, Long Beach, I met an engineering student from Nigeria. I was excited to meet someone who was actually from Sub-Saharan Africa. In the course of the conversation he told me that his family had for a 1,000 years and still were slave traders. He said they mostly sold slaves to North African countries and into West Asia. He thought it was actually a good thing. He said if there was a famine they bought the teenagers, leaving enough food for the adults and younger children, if there was a troublemaker in a village that person was sold to the slavers to keep harmony and it prevented wars because of the threat of a captured warrior being sold. Cannot say I agree with him but it is his perspective.

That's another part of it: They're not asking the descendants of slave owners to pay reparations, they're asking EVERYONE to pay reparations. I don't know how the math works out for Britain, but in the United States I recall someone calculated that if all of the current wealth of all the actual descendants of slave owners was seized and then evenly distributed to all of the actual descendants of slaves, each person would receive about $4. And then there's the thorny issue of people who are descendants of both (which is not a small number at all). Do they pay reparations? Or receive reparations? Both? Neither?
You can't base it on those descended from slave owners because most descendants of slave owners in America today are black thanks to the ending of the slave trade in 1807. Thus, those who are the recipients of reparations are then forced to be the ones to pay them. Which is why most reparations being paid by states such as California are for things like Jim Crow laws and systemic discrimination in things such as housing, which can be paid as there are still living victims.

Here in Britain we have been paying reparations for what seems like forever in the form of overseas foreign aid. Between 2010 and 2020. Britain went through a decade of austerity where all of over public services were cut, wages were stagnant, taxes went up to pay for the banking crisis but we still gave away over £175 billion in foreign aid. Our government thought that every other nation deserved our money more than us and went out of their way to tax us even more to pay for their vanity project! Two world wars and trillions pounds and let’s not forget how many trillions of dollars our American cousins have been forced to pay to all these ungrateful countries who are now decanting all their criminals in the form of illegal immigration!

As an american who grew up in the hood, i can say with certainty, that if they did write checks to black americans, most of them would ne broke again in a month. Besides the fact most people get stupid with money in general, in the hood there is a massive trend towards blowing it on dumb stuff to look cool, things that are not needed. Over 100k gone, with nothing to show for it, she was back on stamps

Our federal government through laws and covenants from the 1930s - 1990s openly denied blacks FHA home loans. Home ownership is the largest builder of wealth in this country. If 20 years is a generation, that's 4 generations denied the American dream. Multiply that out 4 generations and you are missing millions of $ of wealth. Did black buy homes, yes but areas set up by the FHA and banks that limited growth and appreciation because of no loans in their areas. Predatory loans were people thought they were buying a home but had zero equity because they were in fact renting until the house was paid off. The federal government sanctioned this. Blacks are the only race of people this was allowed to happen to. The Irish, Jewish, Catholics, Sloves all got FHA financing. This reverberates in the Black community until today.

The arguments by this historian are infact VERY POWERFUL AND NOT EVEN COMPLETE. In Britain 85% of the British public couldn't even vote until between 1880 and 1920 which means they had no political power even if they had wanted to change anything. On top of that the 'empire' didn't become an empire until the mid to late 1700s. So the British public wouldn't have been aware of there even being an organised empire for more than 150 years let alone the fact apart from the introduction of sugar and tobacco they didn't benefit from the empire AT ALl. The whole narrative surrounding the empire is at best unbelievably inaccurate and at worst a complete and total hoax. The beneficiaries of the empire's wealth were highly specific ruling and merchant elites that at the most represented 15% of the British population if not quite possibly far less. All these things are factually and historically a matter of record and 100% checkable. Most Britons never ventured 30 miles from their homes. This is why there are so many regional accents that at one time were even more multifarious than now

In my school years I remember going into history classes where it's school policy to talk about certain topics. The Holocaust, ww1 and British slavery. Understandable that they teach this to enlighten children of the horrors of the past as to prevent them happening again but when it came to being told about British slave trade. The teachers were completely one sided. Telling us we should be ashamed to have been raised on the backs of such events. Telling it as if the British empire was the author of slavery and the master industry driving it. So when I stepped in to dispute the one sided argument and point out that Portugal had been doing it for thousands of years before Britain begin to get involved, the islamic countries castrated their male slaves to perform genocide and the fact that it was Britain and it's huge royal navy that was instrumental in stopping the slave trade from Africa. After hearing this the teacher went back to their pre fabricated talking points and refuted everything I said like it was just made up. I called the teacher out the next lesson and offered rock solid factual evidence to the truth. What did I get as a result. Detention for apparently "verbally supporting slavery" I eventually got that detention overturned but I never trusted that teacher again. What is going on in our schools.

Not precisely their own people. Africa is still a rather tribal continent. Stronger tribes would capture and enslave weaker ones and sell them to white traders.
And look at these countries now that the British have returned the country back to them as they wished? No more streets that are maintained, buildings falling down. Corruption running rampant. The people were better off and their quality of life was much better.
