Wow that water doesn't look real!
The new harbour renovation has apparently resulted in the water being clearer than we've seen it since our first visit in 1998. Much of the seawall has crumbled.. I wonder what has caused that? Looking forward to our first trip back since 2018 later this year..

@@amazingtravelasia Our honeymoon. There were maybe 10 accomodations, a few restaurants, hardly any tourists. Electricity generator ended at 10pm, so no fans (of course no aircon). It was February and hot. It’s obviously changed hugely since then, but the vibe remains. We’ve visited about 10 times, usually for a couple of weeks. We love it. We have some local friends who we’ve known since they were teenagers. We’ll be seeing their kids soon ❤️
You can still see a lot of damage on Gili Air from the 2019 Lombok earthquake. I think that’s the damage you saw to the sea wall and the sidewalk along the shore on the east side…
@@noahjuanjuneau9598 The 2019 quake hit the east of Lombok. The July 2018 quake affected the west and Gilis (they are, as The temptations once said, standing on shaky ground..) We were there in October 2018. I can't recall the seawall being so badly crumbled, but it's possible as we might not have walked that particular path: There is (was?) a parallel path about 15 metres inland which we frequented to buy pineapples, coconut and mangosteen from our friendly fruit lady. We miss it..
