    i first started graphic design in highschool and loved it. But never pursued it passed highschool and ended going to business instead. I'm now in my early 30s and have recently gone back into. even got a full-time job as a designer.
    i do regret not pursuing it earlier. if i could only go back and tell that to my younger self instead of wasting so many years searching for my passion when all along it was my childhood passion that was buried away :(

      I'm sure you'll find that your business experience will come in useful. Most of us don't progress linearly in our careers and that's ok.

    Thanks alot Matt, really found it insightful.
    Could you also do a piece on building a portfolio that gets the job? Down to little details like software, and larger ones like quantity of work, content, e.t.c.
    Thank you.

    I love this video Matt, my younger brother is a graphic designer who loves your work he’s been doing it since he was 13 he’s learnt by watching videos of different designers he’s 19 now and wants pursue this full time. His only problem is he never got the opportunity to go to college to study it, he’s wondering if that would be a hindrance to him?

    • @MattBruntonUK
      @MattBruntonUK Год назад +2

      Nope! Portfolio and experience over a college degree every time.

      I totally agree that you can have a skilled design work without going to a college, but try to connect with guidance at different design colleges and show your work. If you show your design work, they might give you several scholarships that might cover all of your college expenses. The reason I’m saying this is because of the experience you’ll get by being at the campus, getting to know different creatives, and building new skills while studying among the best designers. Yes, you can totally skip this part but in the future you might have a regret what you missed.

    Hi, thank you for the video, you guys teach me a lot.
    In the first part of the video, Matt talks about core design skills, I am trying to learn them, but how do you deal with the fact that you aren’t progressing at the rate that you would like? That’s my biggest frustration.
    One more question, while developing the core design skills, can I copy from inspiration?
    Thank you for any kind of response & the education flux team🙏

      I can tell that the struggle in the head of other designs beeing better than yours or that you dont see yourself getting to the point where you want to be, is never going away. Espacially when you discover social media, where you get so many different approaches and ideas. You will always see something new.
      Instead, try to get better in what you like the most. Help other people or companys with your expertise and get better while doing it. Then check your favourite agencies and compare your work to them. Ask yourself questions: what do they do different the you? Why does it look the way it looks? and so on.
      Get that inspiration and mix it with some other inspirations to create your own approach. You dont have to create something magnificent new. Just help others communicate their message. Good luck :)

      @@caku93 Thanks, I think your point about social media is right, because when I see designs on social media, I start to feel like I’m behind. Thank you very much, you just put things into perspective.

    • @MattBruntonUK
      @MattBruntonUK Год назад +1

      Great questions. Copying is a great way to practice. I don't think any driven person progresses at the rate they'd like in any area! But patience is key-life is long enough to get where you want to be. ✌🏻
