Although I have a degree in Graphic Design, I appreciate videos such as this so much for upping my game and finding little tricks to assisting my design work so much.
0:25 Not sure if you know. You can do the calculations within illustrator instead of opening the calculator. Just use the symbols and do the calculations in the type space
You have know idea how many video I have searched though to learn some of these thing you teaching us. Most of the things your teaching I had know idea you could do. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this video!
For the first hack, you can actually input simple equations in the number bar instead of having to open up the calculator app and computing the result. e.g. adding "+180" to 76 and pressing enter will show the sum of the two.
On tip #3: The kerning of a professional typeface is set by the designer and these settings will apply when you choose "Metrics". Using "Optical", the kerning will be automatically adjusted by Adobe, wich isn't always better. So I would recommend: For professional fonts, make the font designers happy and choose "Metrics" as they intended. Any other free or badly kerned font, you may be better off using "Optical". Some manual kerning might be needed either way.
@@willpatersondesign also will, I didn't recognise it was your video immediately and my brain showed reluctancy in clicking at first because there's no you in the thumbnail
0:55 But doesn't that give us a rectangle in a ratio of exactly 2:3? The Golden Ratio is roughly 1:1.6, or 2:3.2, so the rectangle should be a little "longer". Right?
Man, I was sad last days because I delayed to deliver a project with a doc explaining all for art school, where I went to big and I got not time to finish the doc. It hurted a lot, then I realized that some process I had where too slow, and this video has helped a lot. Thank you Will!
There's even a simpler way to achieve tip #1, just select the object you want to turn into the complimentary color, go to color window and click on the three lines there, click on complement and that's it!
Hello. I saw your grids. Is there a way to explain how they line up. I want to learn ways to use a grid. Visually I couldn’t tell where u lined up the text to the grid. I even did a screen shot. Thanks
Great video! I love how you packed so many useful design hacks into just 10 minutes. I especially appreciate the tip about "Logo package express 3". How can I get it in my illustrator? Keep up the great work!
0:41 doesn't give you a golden rectangle. It gives you a Fibonacci rectangle. Fibonacci's ratio ever so slightly approaches the golden ratio at some points, but never exactly matches it. For a golden rectangle I just do one side of the square times 1.61804 and it's pretty good for very precise software oriented golden ratio. The more decimals the better tho.
Great video- I didn’t know about the export package what a neat thing- i hope its not expensive. Our money os so weak against the dollar. Its almost 20 times as weak
The golden rectangle you draw is not exactly "golden" is a 3x2 rectangle, it is near Golden, but to make one like the one you did, just entrer those proportions and you are done.
I could sure use the New Guide Layout in Illustrator at work but it's not showing up in View/Guides. Using Illustrator 2023 v27.1.1. As always, Brilliant vid, thank you!!
Hello, I stumbled upon this video and it is really helpful, but I have a quetion: If my colour has a, let's say 171° HUE, what to do to find the complementary? Simply 171 - 180? It will always be 0°? Thank you in advance.

I have a graphic design and logo I made for a small transportation company that I would love to get feedback on. Is there any way to have that happen?
@@jasonsnessnaj you can post it on Reddit (link in description) or get in touch about a consultation!
You can type in "+180" or "-180" to input field and PS /AI/other will do the math for you.
No need for calculator.
what is your font

Came to say this. Using this trick saves me a crap-ton of time for all sorts of adjustments in adobe software.
You can actually do all kinds of calculations. plus (+10), minus (-10), divide (/10), multiply (*10).
Waoohhh, just the first thack blows my mind🤯🤯
loved it. Bless you man!!!

Yes. Plus optical kerning take more machine ressources. In Photoshop, that's so so, but with longer texts in InDesign, it shows quickly.
Absolutely f-ing bonkers THANKSSSSS

Hi Gustavo, If it's below 180 u should add 180, making 351!
@@pinkblanket But it only goes to 255 max.
amzinggggggggggggggggggggg
would like to see the process of doing that poster in 7:35 haha
Coming soon :)
0.19 what if it's already 180?
the color hack is what im having on the menu
All adobe softwares has an inbuilt calculator. You just enter a plus or a minus in and press enter, and that's it
The golden rectangle hint is wrong. The right way to do this is to make a square and multiply its width by 1.618. Which is the Fibonacci number.
YOU MAKE CAR WARP DISIGN ✨🌝
Nice thumbnail
Heads up that in your chapters you have a typo. “Gird” instead of “Grid”
