When at 14 years old I purchased my copy of the "Drama V" album at my usual music store in Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain) I discovered what IS SOUL. This was the same year that was published, 1976, and from this day on The O'Jays, The Chi-lites and The Dramatics are "my particular trio" in the vocal groups field. Cheers to all!
When this album came out it was during a time when the Brothers and the Sistas dressed sharply. I'm from KC Missouri , and we were sharp during those times, and the music reflected the mood and the atmosphere during those times. The 70's was the the SHIT!! Some of my best memories. OLE SCHOOL FOREVER!!!!!!
Ronald Goodwin I agree you remember MR. Pibbs/50yard Line/Olivia's/Bucks/Flanker's/The Fire-Side/The Fire-Place/just to name a few hot spot during the 70's/80's
One of the best albums from the mid 70's! My brother used to listen to this all of the time! I still have this in the basement along with a few other classic soul albums on vinyl!!!
I decided to make a comment on this track because it showcased their outrageous harmonies and ability to handle complex musical arrangements. I thoroughly enjoyed the Unsung episode. Drama V came out while I was a student at NCCU and was immediately hooked on this song and Just Shopping. It is easy to forget how many hits they had in a relatively short period 1971 to 1976. They did classic slow jams (Be My Girl, In the Rain), mid-tempo (Whatcha See is Whatcha Get), and club/dance floor bangers (Get Up and Get Down). You could argue for days who was the best group of this era, but the Dramatics combination of five part harmony, showmanship, and vocal tag teaming of Ron Banks and L. J. Reynolds rank them as a top five group in my opinion.
IM TELLLIN YA! RON&L.J. COMBO on most of their BIGGEST CLASSICs omgeeeeeeee KILLIN 💩 lIke HOT BUTTERED SOUL Dipped in FUNKY Pot Liquor, with A pinch of Smoked Turkey Greens/Cabbage CROOONIN❣❣❣😍😆😂😆😂💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
@@lindahines8287 His work with Phyllis Hyman, and Norman Connors are classics. "You are my Starship" is a all time caliber Love Song. He was a gifted Bass player that worked with Jazz greats and R&B greats.
This is the epitome of great music. The Dramatics were sophisticated in every respect-great lyrics, singings and music. What a fabulous sound! This has got to be my favorite group.
This era gave us some stellar groups. Spinners, Blue Magic, Moments, Stylistics, Blue Notes and Dramatics among others. Countless hours spent listening to this album I believe their best all round effort
Myyyyy #1 group of all times!!! This cut right here stands to be Da’Coldest!!!..thus by farrrrr “Don’t Hurt Me,Don’t Hurt Me” Treat me like a Man!!!... Ron sooooo damn cold and LJ Reynolds is all of Everything!!! 🎼🎤💨
This song was on my mind as I walked into my home after work! So, I went straight to my RUclips, where I could get the REAL FA REAL Dramatics! This reminds me of my Cuzzns chillin in the back room smokin weed and groovin to The Dramatics! THANK YOU Tariq :-) you introduced me to This Song, and The Dramatics!!!
The breakdown of this song is bad as hell alot of people skipped over this one because of how it starts but after letting it play realized this cut right here is the shit!!!!
You are so right, i been up on the dramatics but never knew about this song. My older sis just put me up on this (she's 44), and that break down is so crucial. ..

They got this shit off!!!!! The climax is all that..my shit 4 life....I just let this keep playn over & over & over & over...aye Call me craycray....I just love it...
This is my all time favorite cut by them. I think it was Tony Hester's return (and last harrah) to the production booth on the album. I think Michael Hederson wrote this track. At this point in the 70s they were equal to or better than the Temps were (but not the classic five iteration; I'm not crazy).
Andrew Banfield your exactly right brotha...one reason for me is the fact that, the temps can't get close to the Dramatics ballads if nothing else..yeah that's a strong limb..you got it right.
What's really sad about the site when searching for the lyrics to this song, is that most of what's in print isn't accurate to the lyrical content being sung on the record itself. As a child, my older brother, Michael and his friends used to sing along to this track, as if they were The Dramatics themselves, like we all do when we hear some of our favorite tunes being played! Young people in The Hood always learned the lyrics! If it wasn't The Dramatics, it was WAR, The New Birth, The Spinners, The Ohio Players, The Temptations, The Four Tops or Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes to Earth, Wind and Fire! We had the Groups who wrote the songs that we could sing in front of or Parents or Children without profanity or degrading a Woman! Yeah, we had "Party Music," like Redd Fox, Richard Pryor or The Blowfly, but there was a time and place for that, not like it is today, all out in the open and either missing lyrics or none at all! But, alas, I am getting away from the subject matter at hand. I just wanted to see the Actual lyrics and not what some "Genius" thought it was. With all of the re-creation going on in the world of music, I wonder how long it will be before the 8-Track makes a comeback?
Mr. Michael Henderson, sir!!! Where are you? This is MASTERPIECE!!! You showed OUT on this one!!!
Thank you Michael Henderson, for writing this jewel I love it❤️🎶💯

I love the Temps but i am going to go out on a limb here and say the Dramatics are better.
Wrong. The Dramatics are a good group, my second choice group. But the Temptations will always be THE BEST group.
