  • This is a my transcription of John Coltrane's solo on On Green Dolphin Street (by Bronislau Kaper) from John Coltrane Quintet live recording, in Dusseldorf (West Germany) March 28th, 1960. I'm very like this solo!

    Coltrane is so smooth, he plays wild shit but he delivers it in such a smooth way, lyrical, soothing

    Can we take a moment to appreciate that he marked the slurs and articulations so well? We always talk about how important tonguing is but we always see so many transcriptions with no articulation markings at all! Also I’ve wanted to see someone do this solo for a while. Props! 👍🏼👍🏼

    Coltrane… shite! Gimme a break! The ease he put on display throughout that solo is a wonder to me. I will never attain that level of skill. It’s discouraging but yet inspiring at the same time. Ugh…

      @@michaelroach4219 Look, I know what practice can produce. I used to do a minimum of 4 hours every day when I was in college. But, that requires a commitment I'm not willing to make at this point in my life (I'm 55). So yes, I know what I most definitely COULD do, but truthfully won't at this point in my life.

      @@ytinf1090 A lick is a short phrase in jazz. THE lick is a common phrase that is heard very frequently in jazz improvisations. It is the phrase heard at 0:17.
