Why do companies hate song mode so much ?? They refuse to include it on most modern gear , back in the day most drum machines that was a standard.
Lol I feel you.
They trying to dumb us down 😂
"tell me you have bad firmware programmers without telling me you have bad firmware programmers."
PREACH
Its simple, (almost) no one features songs on youtube when it comes to gear. Just some loops and mutes and folks online are like you are a genius maestro! OMG!!
Fam Im dying laughing 🤣 😂😭😂🤣crying over here
LMAO!!
looking like a calculator is their whole brand!
Lol.
Hey DyReck, there's another "old school calculator style" product on the market. The RK-008 Real Time Multitrack MIDI Recorder from RETROKITS.
Oh wow..Im looking at it now..Ima check it out.
I have one…fader is broken but it is fun to use even without song mode. I dig the challenge of making beats in different ways but I also get why people might not like them
I feel you!..It has alot of nice features.. I like the filter modulation fader..I wanna see how far people go with it.
@@DyReckProductions skibeatz is posting some nasty cuts on IG with it. Dragonflybry and some other cats have some sick joints too. I posted a shorts with it. Still learning tho
Last line of the video "people want something interesting to motivate them to create magic" -- YUP! Good way to summarize G.A.S. and especially with the pocket operator line, the vibe was like Pokemon "Gotta Catch 'Em All!". With those and this, I think the vibe is to have something that looks like crap, like a calculator from 1991, that you can make sick beats out of, the target audience likes that in a very different way than MPC heads want the most svelte looking machine. I bought the drum machine PO and have had the voice synth / sampler a few years and ... 1) I think they're deeply misunderstood 2) I come up w a ton of great, crunchy, off-kilter lo fi drum beats on it every time I mess with it , stuff I wouldn't come up with on my DAW or MC-909 but 3) whenever I really like something I've made, what they don't tell you it can't do is you can't change the volume of parts later. You can't solo or mute parts. You can't undo. You can save you memory's state via an audio blast to a recorder but this fails a lot of the time. My pocket operator is so close to being amazing that its aggravating, and a big reason why I was interested when I first saw this EP-133. What I think is silly about the pocket operators (and this goes for the Volcas too) is that they're marketed as a collection of little devices which are meant to be used in tandem. Most of the pocket operators are the same thing sold in a different color with different sounds (like EMU modules or the Korg Electribe ). Teenage Engineering also just charges ridiculous amounts for a lot of its more ridiculous products like those choir dolls....but the PO-35 is the most fun of all instruments I ever take on the NYC subway by far
Bought a synthesizer day before the drop, glad I went that route seeing all these videos, thx for the heads up. They don't tell us nothin
No doubt fam.
The thing is the KO II isn’t a synth so really no point in buying it if that’s what you needed in the 1st place. The KO II is actually a nice lil machine for $299.
I re-bought an SP303 to be my sole (& soul) machine just before these came out. Despite the EP133 having more functionality in the way I need it (speed pitching & copy, for starters!), I have no regrets. Especially reading about all the out-of-the-box broken ones!
The 303 has a great sound!..I was listening to some beats made off the 303 the other day.
@@DyReckProductions Dilla Donuts? lol The 303 is the buttery smooth SP. Just watch out when you hit its limits!
@@mi777ke777 Oh ok no doubt.
"I Hate School" 🤣
Lol!!!
The EP-133 has the best song mode! Even the PO-33 lets you chain patterns. But the EP-133 gives you 4 pattern groups A B C D which can each have 99 patterns. Each pattern can be 99 bars. You can pick a different pattern for each group, like A01 B01 C01 D01, then the ‘commit’ button saves it in the ‘scene’ chain. You get 9 projects, and each project can have a chain of 99 scenes, and each scene you pick one pattern per group out of a possible 99 different patterns you can define in each group. You can also have different length patterns running in each group. Honestly I think TE is obnoxious af charging $100 for a bare PCB and $300 for a lego calculator, but I really like the PO-33, PO-35 and EP-133. And come on it only looks like a calculator cuz they’re copying the MPC 2000. Every Akai looks like an ‘80s cash register!
Oh ok..Ima look deeper into it might have to make a revision..Some folks say there gonna give the K.O. some additional updates soon.. So ima stay tuned.
Why is your post just an ad for TE?
the "bangin' the sh*t out of that cash register" meme never gets old. not only the akai MPCs, but the yamaha QX1, QX3, roland MC300. MC500, alesis SR16 -- they all have strong adding machine vibes.
Boy you know people don’t pay attention they just love to complain. I was just thinking that, like it does have a song mode, did you miss it because it’s not labeled song mode? But it was apart of the brief rollout and an option on the original. You can even select the order and how many times each section repeats its . Wtf are people talking about. I don’t believe the faded is broken, I just think people don’t understand how to use it tbh. I waited too long on reviews and it was gone by the time I was satisfied. But hey people it’s a very capable companion piece.
I'm not trying to say anybody should buy the EP-133. You put it next to a SP-404MK2 and the 404 is sooooooo much more legit. The 404 feels solid like you could throw it in a backpack. You're gonna break the EP-133 pretty fast if you knock it around. I think the EP-133 is good to just play around with and work on ideas. It's sure as hell not studio equipment. The FX are weak. And I don't think it can do any realtime FX or anything on the input. The input is just for recording to a pad. But it's really cool the way you can make four parallel patterns, and it's super easy to control other stuff with it. Kinda like a Beatstep Pro. On any of the pads you can turn off the internal sample by assigning sample 000 to the pad, then you can set the MIDI channel and note for each individual pad. And you don't have to go through a bunch of menus. You just dial in the channel and the note on the two knobs. So it's really easy to trigger percussion stuff on a rack synth. Like if you have a '90s module that plays 16 patches on all 16 channels, you can sequence the synth like normal on channel 1, 2, 3, but then also use the EP-133 to play random sounds on channel 10, 11, 12. I've got five '90s rack synths so I think it's great for triggering those. But I mean as a sampler it's kinda still an enlarged Pocket Operator. I wouldn't feel very cool trying to perform with it. I don't even know how to use an MPC but I 100% know any MPC is better than the EP-133 for making a beat and doing normal sampler shit, ya know?
LOL The calculator you used to see beside the rotary phone back in the day.
Word lol!
NATIVE SHADES!!!!! 😎
This shit hard af bro
Its 3/5th of the price of an sp-404 mk2. It’s missing some features you’d expect but it’s also pretty packed for a 300,- device. It also has great battery live and I like the form factor.
I see some cons that make me wait a bit, but I’m still very interested.
I also thought I saw somewhere you can chain patterns/scenes, that’s kinda like a song mode right?
Yeah ..They do give you a whole lot for 300..Probably the most features for a gear at that price range right now.
Yo you should review the beatbox the cardboard mpc
In Thomann opinions about this are at least 4 people complaining about the fader being broken.
Yeah I been hearing stuff about some of them having fader issues.
Sending mines back. The volume knob. Is crapped out. Full volume at zero , it only zeroes out if you apply pressure to top of knob.
I have an Akai s900. I’ve owned since the mid 90’s. That still works and still uses floppy disks I’ve had since the 90’s.
It makes no sense us to be beta testers for a new product .
I’m good with TE. Never again
Dang!..Yeah its amazing how alot of the old products from the 80s and 90s still work like brand new today.
I have master the gear I have before buying more
wait til the updates then you learn son
Lol..Trust me.. Im waiting.
As a relative beginner who bought a K.O. II with a broken fader, I'm having a lot more fun playing with Koala. K.O. II is going back to Guitar Center.
lol.
I'm a problem!
lol
The EP-133 has the same/better capabilities of the SP12, SP1200 and MPC60, which formed the backbone of HipHop/Rap music, so it's strange to hear the EP-133 is a toy, not capable when no one would say the same for the SP12, SP1200 and MPC60. Maybe we're spending too much time wishing for the perfect beat machine, which will never come, instead of picking an existing device, rolling up our sleeves and getting to work :).
I guess its what your comfortable using..Some folks like the feel and the tactile workflow of a big machine..And the SP's and MPC 60 are world loved for there gritty sound.
I've seen fix-it videos for two seperate issues within two weeks of its release. The KO2 is more broke than Sony's PSP. TE and Sony should let Nintendo build their products.
Lol!!
guy is spitting facts
Good lookin!
So what's your favorite gear to make beats on these days, DyReck?
Believe it or not im really liking the Pioneer Toraiz..Its real easy to use and get around on..The workflow is real simple and the sound is great!
@@DyReckProductions Nice. Thanks for the reply. I spend a lot of time on the Akai Force and the Octatrack these days, but I brought an SP 404 mk2 for myself for Christmas, so I'm gonna try that out.
@@user82938 Oh ok no doubt.
better save some money and go with the old reliable MPC 1k
Lol!
i woulda actually released something even cheaper maybe $99 actually called the "calculator" that made beats. i have this casio 320mt calculator on my desk and its the perfect size/footprint for a lil fun beat machine. it has the right dimensions where you can easily fit an sd or microsd slot, speaker and batteries 🤔
That’s literally what the pocket operator is
@@bagoftrix its too small for me... i mentioned the particular caculator model i had, its the perfect size and better aestetics
I feel you.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
lol
shades....SHADES. ive been asking you for AT LEAST a year to do Pocket Operator vid and we get THIS?? not saying this is a bad vid. its classic as always, but i feel you should have done a proper pocket Operator vid FIRST, THEN hit us with this one.
LMAO!! DJICEMAN!!!..I was thinking about u when I was doin this vid..Now I got to make the Episode!!!..I got you!..I was gonna do something on the E-mu's but I got you.. coming soon!!
@@DyReckProductions its all good. lol. i actually spoke to someone at TE (i was in my feelings cause i didnt get my review unit, but i digress. lol) and heres the official word about the EP 133s
"we’ve made improvements to our shipping procedures to prevent transport issues.
to our customers, we want to ensure you that we're very picky about our build-quality. since our first unit shipped, each EP-133 that leaves our factory in Spain run through a fully automated testing robot with full test-coverage, i.e. all buttons, potentiometers, slider, ins & outs, power etc are verified by a test machine prior to being packed."
@@DJICEMAN_ Lol oh ok no doubt!
I have some faders for sale.
Lmao!
I feel like all these machines are missing something and that’s how you get everyone rushing to get the next big thing. This new Ko is missing a Sd card reader from keeping it from being great. That new Korg thing doesn’t have a sequencer. That Smpl Trek got a little ass screen , and I brought it and I don’t use it because the screen is to too little for me. Roland Sp sequencer is just ok , and they took out the loop record. Novation doesn’t have no screen and you just left in the dark.
Yup!..Im still upset about the Korg Volca Sample 1 never making a simpler way to get samples on the unit..Instead years later they just came out with a version 2 and wanted you to buy that one.
Why does it look like calculator if you can't even chop by numbers?
Lol!..It lets you chop with the numbers its just some people would like an auto chop feature or see some kind of wave form.
Does look like a giant calculator, also looks good, and good price, but I wont buy one, already got all I need.
No doubt.
64Mb Sampler in 2023!!! 😧
Does not resample!?😦
$300😲😕
im not falling for it this time is all im sayin, i had the op 1 and it worked like a toy
Yikes 😂😂
Lol!!
I think DyReck would be a ton of fun to drink with
I hate TE ... that shit is overpriced and lame
I have an sp404mk2, and i think its going to age well and make great music while it does it
Lmao!! Thanks bro!..Yeah the SP 404mk2 is nice!..Not alot of gear made today with a sound like that.
hahaha right?! the sp basically made a whole couple of genres
come kick it in kansas friend!@@DyReckProductions
it's made for a bad gear EP
LMAO!!!
Looking forward to as well 😂
I was excited until I heard it couldn’t resample. Is that real? Maybe they can add it in an update probably not possible lol
Shemale engineering 😂
😂😂
Dang!!
I loathe these hipster boxes. Everyone that owns them looks the same and they all try to sound like donuts era dilla, which is the least impressive dilla.
It boggles my mind how so many folks try to emulate that late stage era of Dilla. While I don’t necessarily hate the final era of Dilla, it’s his Jay Dee and early Dilla (like “Welcome 2 Detroit “) eras that are his best and most superior eras in my opinion. If I was the type to emulate Dilla, the two aforementioned early eras would be what I would be emulating. Late era Dilla was hit or miss for me.
LMAO!
You know what it's like,
Have you ever been in an elevator and stopped! Uh on! And now you gotta wait for the repairman.
But you sit there listening to the smooth jazz sounds of Kenny g on the elevator and you're like, damn, if only I had my pocket operator?! I could flip this Kenny g into some Dilla style lofi! And then hipster's who are scars of hip-hop will love it elevator Kenny g nujabes beats!
I don't know man I make noise music on them and I just look like an emaciated heroin user with long hair and face tattoos... Oh fucc wait cuz I promise I'm different hahahaha
But for real te haters are broke boys, you think we don't also have the mpc the matriarch and some old shit from the 70s too, lol you think we are trying to impress you! Lololololol
See you boys in. 6mos
It just that community kinda limits samplers like these around making one typa style. But in reality you can make some shi that sound like it came out of a MPC if you know how to really finesse it
lol 👏👏👏🫶 thank you again for this videos
No doubt fam!!
