"I'd rather be slightly inconvenienced than inconvenience someone else." What a brilliant, amazing and kind man.
That is 100% my husband and sometimes it drives me bonkers!
Sorry to be an inconvenience, but that's actually six words.

Thank you for quoting him. I watched this again to see how he worded it. I agreed but never articulated it that way. Lovely humble man.
That needs to be on a t-shirt, it needs to be a world campaign.
“Does it still run?” “Last time I drove it downhill it did” 😂😂😂
That was brilliant
"Play the hand I'm dealt", that is by far my favorite thus far 👏
Simply the best. Humble and kind ❤🎉🤟😎
"Play the hand I'm dealt"
That was amazingly quick and thoughtful. James still sharp as a tack at 74.
Great interview.
Always gets me when a celebrity is also a gardener. That way I know they’ve kept their feet on the ground. What a beautiful human being 🥰
“Play the hand I’m dealt” is perfect
I kinda want to make that my new mantra
This is so funny. James can’t help but be earnest about so many things.
I fell in love with this man's music in 1971 as a 15 year old and still listen to his poetry. Thank you for giving us more of your genius . Love from Australia.
Me too, I was 14 and my dad had just died and James Taylor's music and humanity helped me through the teenage years. I've loved him ever since. Xx
Went to a James Taylor concert in my teens ~35 years ago. Was probably the youngest person in the audience, but didn't care - it was a fantastic show.
Same year for me, and I was 23. Sweet Baby James has graced our lives for quite awhile, and he never gets old.
I was -3 in 1971, when he was apparently still relevant.
He was THE artist in my high school years in the early to mid 1970’s. Still love his talent and listen to his music all the time!
I love James comment for describing his life in five words, "play the hand I'm dealt". It's absolutely perfect and something that everyone should live by!! Thank you, James!!
What a decent human being. As well as
as well as a poet and troubador. Bravo!
That's actually 6 words not 5.
@@thedon9670 As a foreigner - i dont understand what does this sentance means? Could you explain? thanks
@@LyTauer Make the most (or best) out of the life you are given.
James taylor a legend in every way ❤
James Taylor is the ultimate sensitive good kind guy. Oh and a fantastic musician too
Every time I see James Taylor I think of my first husband… he looked a lot like him. James Taylor and me too got to live to “older age” . My James only lived until age 36. For some reason it is sweet seeing him age and living his life as well as performing his beautiful music…. Thanks James for beautifully playing the hand you were dealt!
An amazing performer and song writer and an amazing, intelligent human being. Thanks James for the music!!!
James Taylor is always in my heart❣️
I just fell in love with James Taylor.
I love this segment and living legend James Taylor did a great job I’m between cats right now LOL. His FIVE words was a brilliant choice. How sweet it is…
This interview is so great! James is so intelligent he could probably fill an hour with detailed answers to every question.
Yes. This was too short imo.
"Play the hand I'm dealt" is the best answer I've heard to that question!
He's the man.
Ahhh. Sweet Baby James. Always shower the people you live with love. Great interview.
@James Taylor it's been a great journey.
Shower the people you *love* with love
We all love James Taylor so much. What an American treasure!
This is one of the better questionnaires. Two intelligent men.
“Play the hand I’m dealt”.
With no hesitation.
I love that, man haha
Wow
Saw him play live in Rome on Sunday.
Great concert, great man, maybe the greatest american singer-songwriter, still sincere, funny, humble.
You know the true measure of a musician when he picks "Desafinado" to be the one song he would choose for the rest of his life. James Taylor is the man!
Awesome talent and humble human I could listen to his music forever 😎
Thanks Stephen
Thanks for writing that out for us!
I was 17 years old when Desifinado changed my thinking about music. James Taylor has great taste in music. btw, I'm 78 now.
Sweet Baby James!!!!
James Taylor late nights with Colbert are my favorite nights.
It's his smile that I recognize.
I didn't realize what a great guitarist James is until I learned one of his songs note perfect (Going to Carolina).
There's a world of his musicianship beyond, which I'm sure you've discoverd. We all love this phenomenal human being who has struggled and also made such beauty in this world.
That is how my mother and I have chosen to be buried: Cremated then planted with a tree seed so our ashes can help nourish it. We need more trees and less people buried in boxes made from them.
I adore James he’s so classy and poetic
I absolutely love JT ! What a human ! ❤❤❤
Wow., he is brilliant. That last answer! I've loved him my whole 50 years.
Aloha James...you are my hero...thanks for all your beautiful music that got me through the worst times....I've seen fire and i've seen rain....
JT has been in my heart ❤️ since the 70's just call out my name...I will come running to see you again....aahhh 😘
"There is a young cowboy, who lives on the range.
His horse and his cattle are his only companion.
He works in a saddle and he sleeps in a canyon.
Just waiting for summer, his pastures to change..."
…and rockabye sweet baby James
I have loved James Taylor all my life. I want to be composted. It's a thing you can choose.
"There's nothing that anyone ever does that is not selfish." Those are true words of wisdom, and as he put it just before, you can do so not at the expense of others; what a wholesome human. 🤗
I caught all that too. His first statement is a lost way of behavior today.
I love him. He’s so wholesome. We need more humans like him ❤
he's amazing. im crushed out all over again.
A Morris Minor? Never discard. I learned stick on a Morris Minor. My Dad drove us in our family's move from Toronto to Kitchener in a Morris Minor. I'll take it. We referred to it as a Rolls Canardli....Rolls down one hill, can hardly get up the other side.
JT is one of the few artists that have walked across this rock who can walk out on a stage alone with a guitar and take you to heaven. He overcame what did in Joplin and Hendrix to be the multi hit wonder he is.
pretty bad and boring now though, know when to stop...
@@onefoot7can still outperform all of today’s wannabes with just an acoustic guitar and the pitch perfect voice- even at 75.
James Taylor, a living legend ❤
I can listen to JT talk all day. ❤
My college roomie Cori introduced me to James Taylor. Wish I hadn't lost touch, as they're both awesome people.
Two of my favorite men
My mum owned a morris minor in the 70s 😂 its like the little sister of the Volkswagen, i had a crush on James Taylor as a young teenager
One of my fave questionnaire’s ever, love James Taylor. What a handsome youthful poetic classy articulate intelligent charming gentleman, love his answers and unique playful sense of humour. ❤😍🥰😘🤩 🌟 ✨
I love you James Taylor
What an unexpectedly great segment.
This quiet simple extraordinary man ... Colbert... those questions...you are superb...this is by far one the best conversations i have ever witnessed...James we cherish you are indeed a treasure...i have always known that. at 64 u sealed it ..😊
I've been in love with the original JT since I was 14. I'm seventy. Same joy whenever I'm treated to a dose of this lovely human ❤
I love his speaking voice too.
James has always been part of my musical life. Genius! Thank you very much!
The Colbert Questionert is my favorite segment.
Gotta love the cars he owns. Don't get rid of any of them . I've always loved James Taylor and now more so.❤
I love this man❣️
What an amazing man! I love his music and poetry. But I love the man more! Thanks, Stephen for having him do the questionert. Very enlightening about the man he truly is!
I think this is probably the best Colbert questionaire I have ever seen.
Truly the Best Colbert Q&A I’ve watched. I love them all - but JTs engaging and witty participation is absolutely wonderful! Did not see that coming! Loved it.
Love him! ❤️
Still handsome, imho. ❣
Always love to hear James Taylor's voice, when he sings and when he speaks. If I had to choose only one song to listen to for the rest of my days, it would certainly be my favorite James Taylor song. The Secret of Life, a song he wrote in 1977 when he was only 29 years old. He has always been a wise soul and a gift to all who have had the pleasure of hearing him. Listen to that song and pass it along to others and live by those words. Thank you James for reminding me how to hold on, let go, and still remain in and appreciate the present.
Though he would be the last to acknowledge this, his talent, ethics, intelligence, humanity and kindness is unparalleled. His very existence and the constancy of his being have sustained many of us through good times and bad, in times we were lost ourselves as well as times when we found or lost those we loved. He embodies everything to which we should all aspire. There is no better.
He is a very good guest
James Taylor loving the Bourne movies is awesome lol and two pugs?! 🥺🥺🥺
Surprised me on a couple of levels. Bravo, Mr. Taylor!
Great as always. Loved the in-depth apple conversation
I love James Taylor and his music.
he is super cool. always.
I love JT! ❤️ so nice to.get to know him a little. I love the way he thought before each answer.
“Play the hand I’m dealt” is the best answer I’ve heard so far (including my own) brilliant.
My uncle had a Morris Minor. Great little cars. We called them jelly moulds
James’ music has been a part of just about every memory in my life since the late 60’s. Such a fine musician. Such a good and kind man. 🎶💗🎶
Cuban sandwich is the best answer so far.
Fire and Rain would be a good choice for “one song”
Far out. I'm really vibing with James' philosophies. Amen!
I've loved James Taylor 4ever it seems. Fire and Rain, I was hooked and even played on the piano, along with Carole King's You've Got A Friend, loving his cover of her song as much as Carole's rendition. In 1985-86 I took my first grade son to see JT in concert in Houston, Texas. Wonderful, of course. My son, now a multi-talented musician himself, started with playing guitar, JT being one of his earliest influences. When he was 16 my mom was sick with cancer and wheelchair bound. My brother, sister and I took her to see JT for her 55th and final birthday, each of us also bringing oldest child (in my case, my only child) so it was a real family outing. Moms very first concert! Of course she loved it, and I'll always be grateful we were able to do that for her. Thank you, James, for sharing your gift with the world and being a part of our stories. ❣️✌️🥀
😂 "Awwww" 💕👍
#JamesTaylor & #Colbert you are such amazing people 💯🥰🤗
5 words to describe myself: this has been really fun
Love James Taylor, can’t wait for his next album all about apples!
😂
Gosh, I still love this guy.
Best Colbert Questionert yet! I’m saving this one. ❤
Two legends here!! ❤❤❤❤
Im from Brazil and I would have if music for the rest of my life. Thank u Mr. Taylor. ♥️
If anyone is wondering, the song he mentioned is Antônio Carlos Jobim's "Desafinado", which was recorded by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd in 1959. Jobim also wrote "The Girl From Ipanema", which Getz also recorded but in a different album.
Love those albums too!
"...he smiles, but she just doesn't see..."
Beautiful soul❤
James Taylor seems like he would be just as happy playing guitar on a park bench for passers by than on a World wide stage. I know I am.
A phenomenal man
im always surprised by stephen's breadth and depth of knowledge of arts and performing arts.
I've been lucky to see him in concert many times. I've seen his brother Livingston several times too.
I ve got a friend. Great artist.
Our Scottish family immigrated to Canada and my Dad bought a Morris Minor. Someway, somehow, all 5 of us fit into that tiny car. A light butter yellow with a red pinstripe. How I loved that car. Keep it James!
Wow. Former President James Taylor.
Can’t believe you actually asked the question… “What’s a Morris Minor?“ You, Stephen Colbert, NEED a Morris Minor. The station wagon model is epic.
His lyrics inspired my interest in the Berkshires
When will Evie Colbert take the Colbert Questionert? 🤔
HE IS AMAZING
James is a LEGEND! Great, intelligent and wonderful man! Thank you for you music and lyrics!
