Why do people in this comment section think that the play is set in Liverpool? It's set in Easington in County Durham, England - completely different part of the country to Liverpool man. Either way, does feel weird listening to Americans trying to pull off the East Durham accent.
EJ Pickering To be honest I did think they were from Liverpool at the start but then I realised they were Geordies not scouses... I had to google it to realise its close to Newcastle 😂
Emily Xx it actually set in County Durham 1984-1985. You can tell because they have really strong accents unlike in Liverpool where they don't pronounce their "o" as strongly.
Omg are they on pointe badly at 3:24 on purpose? I know they are supposed to be bad dancers, but it's a bit dangerous to do bad pointe. They could break their ankles or damage their feet.
thedancinggymnast It's actually done really well. I was on of the girls that did point work in the show and even though it looks bad, everything we did was done very well and then made to look bad. Never once was I injured or hurt because of it.
Watch this and then watch ruthie. Listen to her accent and then to ruthie's. The only time I heard a remotely acceptable accent was when Billy said it will be rubbish. And he's a kid. COME ON!
That accent is vile she sound a. But northern Irish at points which makes sense because she's American but as a professional actor the accent should be no problem, it's essential to.the story.
maybe this is the reason why I love the new Spanish mexican version, 'cause they can't really make Geordie accent but americans neither so... 😂 I do prefer the London Version 👌
just doesnt work in america that accent is horrific!! dont think many americans would understand about a town like easington and the miners strike saw this in england and was one of the best shows ive seen
I saw this show when it was in Chicago, and I tried so hard to like it, but I just couldn't. The dancing was great, but the kids' acting (or how they were told to act) was so obnoxious I couldn't see past it. The singing wasn't that great, either. You could tell they hired people solely based on dancing ability and nothing else.
The west end and Broadway is better I think (not in a mean way) but the west end has great singing, dancing, acting and accents. And so does the uk tour 😄
This will be 6 minutes that I will never get back. No point in doing Billy Elliot without the proper accent. The woman cannot even sing at all and she was out of time with the music on several occasions.
Samara Carlee First of all, that’s in no way racist. Her character is Geordie and the actress is not doing the accent very well. She’s not saying that the accent is ‘bad’, she’s saying that she’s not doing the Geordie accent right.
She's kind of part Irish, Geordie & American. I may have heard a little Russian in there too.
Emma Reilly little Scottish and all
I'm singing this in choir ITS SO FUN 😍😍
1:00 when he speaks it fits with the song really well
WTF! WHO GAVE THIS WOMAN THE PART CAN SHE NOT DO THE DURHAM ACCENT
Whitney houston first of all it is a Geordie accent not a dirt ham accent , second she is very good at it
Whitney houston She can't help her accent.
Whitney houston Geordie
nope it's not Geordie, its a wearside/West Durham accent because it's set in Easington, County Durham
love it!
What the hell accent is she doing? In no world is that Geordie
Sounds Irish 😂

not a patch on our ruthie!
Why's this in an American accent? Billy Elliot is about the pits closing in England
Love it's song
Emily Cherrington it is set in Liverpool
Lucy Summerill it's set in Newcastle. I've been in the actual show
Emily Xx it actually set in County Durham 1984-1985. You can tell because they have really strong accents unlike in Liverpool where they don't pronounce their "o" as strongly.
Debbie is Me (The one in the yellow t shirt)
I'm assuming that the music was just through speakers as it was out of time with Mrs W all the time! And those accents!?
Janet Dickinson as Mrs. Wilkinson...MAGIC!
I lave ballet girls💕
I'm in the play and I got Keeley Gibson ;)
Quem diria q em 2019 esse musical estaria aqui no br
this is tragic, the british version is perf
Ava B it’s hard to beat Haydn Gwyn

Yes I KNOW it is supposed to be like that, but that doesn't negate the fact it is really bad or dangerous for their feet.
thedancinggymnast It's actually done really well. I was on of the girls that did point work in the show and even though it looks bad, everything we did was done very well and then made to look bad. Never once was I injured or hurt because of it.
in a show like billy elliot i’m pretty sure the dancers there know what they’re doing.
@@eloisel2143 doesn't mean it's safe. Professional dancers do things all the time that are unsafe.
oh god the accent :P
What is going on with the accents???
This was out on My bday
it doesnt sound right in America

Poxa, nenhum brasileiro! De onde surgiu esses gringos todos?
Felipe Faraj Não foi uma montagem brasileira, foi o tour do billy elliot que veio fazer algumas apresentações aqui
Sorry Mrs Wilkinson Not a patch on Haydn Gwynne or the early what area is she suppose to be from certainly not Tyneside !!!

Who is playing Billy?
Is it American performance of Billy Elliot?
Yes......
Can someone please tell me what they are putting on there finger at 2:07
Finger puppets that look like birds I'm guessing. Hence the girls flapping there hands like birds lol 😂😄
is ok
5:00
weird hearing Americans doing it its meant to be a North East accent (geordie ) !!
West end was better... Doesn't work at all in an American accent
Why is everyone bitching about accents? Enjoy the fucking show.
Ruthie is way better and i mean 1000 times better!!!!
+Alex Butler agree absolutely
U watched the one in Vancouver yesterday and it was perfect way better than this one no offense
just doesnt work in america that accent is horrific!! dont think many americans would understand about a town like easington and the miners strike saw this in england and was one of the best shows ive seen
Gostei mais do Drew como Billy!
Some of those girls should NOT be on Pointe!

she does realise that's an irish accent?
U.K. One is way better
What the fuck is that shit? They have broken the movie!
its like annie more than billy elliot
No! No! No!!! This should never be done in an american accent!!!!
looks like what seth macfarlane would do
Please! Supposedly happen in Europe, don’t be uneducated! No American accent 😎
that accent is horrid
This will be 6 minutes that I will never get back. No point in doing Billy Elliot without the proper accent. The woman cannot even sing at all and she was out of time with the music on several occasions.
my GOD the accent NOOOO!!
Her accent is horrific
RhiannonC1992 That's racist. Like, people can't help how they talk. I like her accent
Samara Carlee First of all, that’s in no way racist. Her character is Geordie and the actress is not doing the accent very well. She’s not saying that the accent is ‘bad’, she’s saying that she’s not doing the Geordie accent right.
that american acsent is terrible it should be GERODIE
*mackem
Omg this is awful in an American accent!! Totally loses the grit!
Ruthie is wayyy better!
They are so bad at Geordie accents😂😂
Is this sposed to be a liverpullion accident 😂
Annabel Goodby it's supposed to be Jeordy not Liverpuddlian lol
That accent is atrocious... It hurts...
Emily Skinner was the best Mrs. Wilkinson.
