Yela wrote the hook and did production to get Em’s verse first. After he heard it he decided not to do his own verse because he thought Em’s was perfect so he just made the song better. The juxtaposition between the 2 is perfect and they created a 🔥 song. One of my fav Em collaborations. When you realize Em is talking about Proof it adds an additional layer of meaning.

Fun fact is that when Yelawolf made this track and had his verse in it, he had Em then do his verse, he got the track back and heard Em's verse, Yelawolf said hell nah. He took his verse out and this kinda became Em's track with Yela building it up at the beginning and chorus. He was shook when he heard Em's verse 😂😂

When I first heard this song I lost it. It's on my playlist now. And eminem was talking about proof who had passed away a few years before that. So his higher power is his boy proof. Not god, but the delivery leaves it open to interpretation

I would say it's both because Eminem does believe in God and prays. He said it in a interview with vibe in 2009. After his overdose in 2007 he started praying alot more; maybe even started getting closer to God. Proof was his best friend and he mentions Proof in his verse. I guess it's open to interpretation but i think this is the way it intended to be...

Agreed. Em has always been somewhat puzzle like with his metaphors and wordplay but (seemingly unpopular opinion accord to comments) I feel he's only gotten BETTER with age and sobriety. I still enjoy his older stuff greatly, but his new stuff is like a russian nesting doll. Every time you pick through the lyrics you find some new connection. It's genius.

And i can't lie, his instrumental choices and hooks are oftentimes very questionable these days compared to his old albums. So I get what people are saying. But skill wise, Eminem has grown an insane amount. Most people can barely catch a small percentage of his wordplay these days
