THANKS GUYS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS. I hope someone comes up with a solution. I think it is low on freon and it cost more to buy a can of that than It cost to replace it. Here in CA they charge a lot for freon. OMG stupid. So if your having problems with yours some of the comments might be helpful thanks for watching.

I’d take it outside and blast it with the garden hose. Stay away from directly spraying electronics. Then hit it with your air gun and set it out in the sun for 6 or 7 hours. If your going to junk it anyway then why not. I wash mine every fall and they all run great the following summer.

Such B.S. some of the new technology. Our portable AC smelled bad and I needed to clean it. Boy did I have fun disassembling it! It's seems they design it in a way that once it's assembles it should never be disassembled. Even after having removed the screws I struggles. I used my wedge tools to try to pry the panels open.
The fan had severe mould build up and accessing the fan was work and a half. While trying to remove some panels I ended up snapping off the plastic clips that holds the panels together. I didn't care, it was in places that I couldn't even reach with some of my tools.
Long story short. I removed the fan and soaked it in a bleach water bath while having to do some scrubbing. I spent nearly 20 mins trying to clean the fan alone. After having vacuumed off dust and wiped the AC, brought it back upstairs and wife was happy. No smell and the air felt colder.
If you don't have some sort of knack for things like this, then you'll end up spending money to get it to a technician or buy a new one. Our portable AC is 3 years old and runs periodically for 4 months out of a year.

He’s talking about in the beginning when he cleans off the immediate dirt and debris embedded in all the coils, you want to extract it out rather than potentially blowing some of the debris further into the coil grooves…
It’s like how they say when cleaning ac unit u should Hose the outer coils from the inside outwardly to clean it them and push out debris clogs.
In this case he was saying to shop vac the coils with a brush attachment and pull away debris….

When my portable short cycles it needs cleaning. But not just blowing out. I open it up and spray it down with alcohol and a tooth brush. It gets a fine layer of dust and the condensation makes sludge and has to be washed out or i end up blowing it farther in. It has worked for me every time SO FAR...its worth a shot. The alcohol 90% has litle water so it dries fast and is a solvent, evaporats clean and wont leave a residue. Any alcohol will work i prefer 90. I will leave unplugged over night. In fact its doing it now....i stumbled on your video. Try a deep clean. Just put the alcohol in a spray bottle and let it run down the fins and out the drain and bruah as you go. Sounds elementary but SO FAR that has always worked for me.

If i leave it on for a while, like half hour/hour, it seems to sort itself out tho, and works fine. Once summers done, i will take it apart and get the specs of the thermostat and order a new one.

is normal, compresssor use to get very hot, i'm using one of these and adapted a disipator and a computer fan blowing the compressor , i had a problem also of water coming out from the front side where blows cool air, there was so much dirty on the radiators, solution if to spread water with high pressure with a hose, this is part of the maintenance someone should do time to time, they work ok if compressor is working, some times compressor make a little noise if base is some how damage
after cleaning with water you should leave the unit couple of days without using it, the water could get inside on one of the fans or the circuit unit, don't plug in, leave it couple of days without using it or put it all day long exposed to the sun while opened, these should do the job
remember fans blows the hot air from radiator near the compressor, if there much dirt there then unit overheat, compressor turn off for safety after reaching a extreme temperature

I would say that theres a micro leak and is low on refrigerant.. its shutting off from the compressors internal thermal shutoffs.. when you get ice like that it means its low on charge or has a restriction inside the system.. and the compressors supposed to get hot but not above 250°F... and it would get hot when low on charge.. id start off testing the windings on the compressor itself . Go between each of the 3 terminals and if you add two of the ohm measurements they should equal the ohm reading of the last one... if reading is in megohmd is bad compressor, if a winding has continuity to ground its bad.. but yea.. wonder if its r134a , r22 or propane...or r410a or r12.. gotta be one of those,

How did you make out with the unit? The evaporator was starting to frost up. I know you just turned it on. Eventually those coils should be sweating from top to bottom. We didn't see the coils after running for a few minutes. If by chance those first for coils frosted over or only sweat there it could be a sign of a leak or a restriction (foreign/dirt) in the system. Yes it can happen is a supposed sealed system. The compressor does get hot. There should be a fan that blows air across it to help cool it. Make sure the fan is working. Not sure if it shares the same fan for the evaporator. Also with the cover off the air may not be directed correctly onto the compressor. I know you had the cover off checking the unit. But it could be a factor at that time as to why it was so hot. Too if the compressor gets to hot it is thermally protected to shut off. So my guess is possible leak, restriction, or maybe a bad fan motor. Just somethings to look for. All the best to you

  • @jacobfoxworth

Without actually being present to look over the unit, it would appear to be low on freon. A cheap electronic leak detector would verify this. You could also hose down the coils and copper tubing with soapy water and look for bubbles. Either way, if you dont already have the tools to purge, evacuate, and recharge the system, it would be cheaper to get a new one.

If your compressor is getting too hot during running cycle,it will shut off on thermal overload, I would let it cool down or basically if u can cool it down with water or ice pack that would help..you should be able to put in line tap or you can order a compressor port access tool and get that way. You need to hook up your ac gauges in order for you to be able to see what is going on with the compressor and be able to see if are low on freon or is it short cycling...good luck..

I know this is kinda of late , but . So I just bought on of these tings because it has been miserably hot this summer. Same situation it was a fb market place buy. It worked when I tested it then when I got it home it and turned it on worked for 10 mins then off and on till night fall. I had traced it down to the high pressure cycle switch or the ambient temp sensor. I tested both when it shut down and 7.7k ohm when it shut down on the ambient and the open on the high side for about 4 seconds then closed. My issue was the after market exhaust hose rig was too small for the unit I had. I see you have the original hose assy for your unit. I would suspect the over load protection switch on yours is faulty. Opening too early. Hope you found a solution by now.

I took the unit apart and decided to check for leaks while deep cleaning it. Turns out that just under the water pump were 3 holes drilled and no screws or a device there. I filled them with tile glue and the leaks stopped. Also for the intermittent on/off, turns out my exhaust hose isn't compatible because I ran the unit for more than 1hr without the hose after deep cleaning the coils, immediately I attach the hose it turns off after 15mins. So I'm kinda in a bind here as I have to either manage the hose and have manage the intermittent power cycle or run the unit indoors without the hose in which case I'd be recycling the hot air back into the room (no brainer).
Unfortunately in my country, I can't get the oem hose for my matsui 9kwr and I'm stuck with the one I got from the seller which is actually a WC exit hose.

I have a pinguion PAC L90 , I bought it from FB and it worked GREAT for about 3 months. Now it was leaking a bunch of water so I put a big pan type thing under the AC to catch the water. I'd have to drain in every day , which was fine bc my room was COLD. One night I fell asleep and forgot to drain it and when I woke up it was almost overflowing out the pan. Ever since it's quit working , flashing tF , and I can't find anything on that on any site. I'm thinking maybe the tF isn't correct bc maybe the display is messed up or something. Idk either way it powers on but will not turn on , like AC will not blow any air at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated very very much! Please and thank you.

I'm sorry but I'm an licensed hvac technician. And its pretty tough to hear you try to explain things. That capacitor is a run capacitor. It is very unlikely to shock you while de energized. Only a start cap can shock you because it hold a charge. Which is very high voltage to give the compressor a boost of energy upon start up to over come heavy start resistance. Also pressure switch don't usually go bad unless they are shorted to groud or they possibly develope a leave those systems really devolp leaks since they are sealed from the factory. Those coils are most likely dirty in between and you need to was them very well with hose and water. The compressor will get hot while running. Feel the suction line if it's cold like maybe 38 to 40 degrees your good. If its warm then its flat on charge. And you should trash it its not worth fixing thoes things.

@@zicopark7383 I trouble shot mine and that's exactly what it is. These have 2 fans. One to blow cold air and the other to blow pull air threw the condenser. If the condenser cant be cooled then the pressure from the freon returning to the pump strains the compressor and the compressor will shut off. Causing the air from the ac unit to blow cold for a short period of time but then start blowing hot air from the lack of circulation of freon after the compressor stops.
There is a capacitor attached to the motor wires you might check as well. They rarely go bad so it's more than likely the condenser fan. But you can go on commietube and learn how to check it for your self.

When I tried it again, the compressor immediately kicked in quietly and blew cool...not cold air, but then kicked off after a couple minutes.
