Wonderful. Thank you for this video. Those street food are really cheap. All the food looked very good especially the nasi uduk, nasi padang, satay and martabak manis. Wow, all that for USD5, RM22, Rupiah 77K.
How you learn the local lingo is foooking amazing. I thought you did a blind job in Thailand using the native tongue but now your in a totally different country and your making such a effort with the language you should give yourself a massive pat on the back. So proud of you both. Keep up the great work and I hope you have many many years of travel and amazing food to come your way. My only observation that is slightly annoying is how you seem to like absolutely everything you eat. You must have your luckiest taste buds ever. I'm waiting in anticipation for the day you eat something you don't like. I used to think I could eat everything but to much spicy food effects me to much. I'm well jel
Ahaha there are a few things I don't like, I always complain about cucumber and other weird things!! If I eat something and say 'it's alright' then it isn't the best ahah Thanks for the lovely comment
@@EllisWR you should go into politics your forever the diplomatic. Thanks for the heads up your secret code now I know when it's not the best. I was starting to think your taste buds can handle anything no matter what. It's nice to know now you are normal 😂

@@EllisWR I understand what your saying have been in Thailand for 4 months and now in Laos and I feel the same I can't eat the processed meat. I don't eat that crap in the UK so I'm not going to start eating it in Asia. The odd fish ball is my limit with that stuff. The meat in Asia might have a lot more fat and gristle which takes effect to chew but its still better for the body I think.
Welcome to my home town mate... But I live in Jakarta by the way, in the evening you can go to food market near by the old train station and try another ampera food stall and many others with very affordable price, enjoy Bukittinggi
Finally you’re in my hometown, you should go to Ngarai Sianok (it’s located near Jam Gadang) if you want to see beautiful scenery, and there are also plenty other tourist attractions in Bukittinggi and the surrounding areas
Jakarta and its surrounding regions are highly inflated. The prices there and in Papua, are the highest across Indonesia. The price in most cities in Central Java, including Surakarta, can be half of Jakarta. Meanwhile, the prices in the islands outside of Java are commonly higher than the prices in Java, except in Jakarta.
I may have issues with rice and noodles on the same plate, double carbs and all, but then again, I've developed a taste for macaroni cheese pie in Scotland. 😅
Did you feel ill after any of the food you've eaten? I got sick once in the 6 years i lived in China but i don't think it was food poisoning, I think it was from a stomach bug my ex passed to me.
Is this the one satay that you say had orange in it? I can’t tell from the video, but could it be something else that tasted citrusy? In certain types of sate padang, they add either tamarind or makrut lime leaves, could it be because of that? Yes, the mosques of Indonesia are louder than in any other Muslim-majority countries, even louder than Saudi Arabia where the two holy cities of Islam are. Even in places where Islam is not the majority, you can still hear the loudspeakers blaring. West Sumatra is Muslim-majority so it’s even louder in their cities and towns. BTW, this is not a big deal, but the “i” in Indonesian “terima kasih” in pronounced like the -ee in “seen”. You pronounce it like the “i” in “bin” so it sounds more like “trema kaseh” which is how the Malaysians pronounce it. Again it’s not a big problem, but if you want to sound like a local you might want to try this. Bukittinggi is a favorite destination for locals to go sightseeing. I hope you two had the time to go and see some of the natural attractions around. Cheers! 🍻 🇮🇩
We learnt a bit of language in Malaysia so it's engrained into us sorry. Yeah this satay sauce had orange in she told us I'm sure! The call to prayer is normal in Muslim countries but here in Indonesia they play it at extreme volumes and aswell as call to Prayer they blast things through the speakers allllllll day it's quite strange no other countries do this not even Saudi Arabia etc.
@@EllisWR oh there’s no need to say sorry, saying it the Malaysian way is fine as well, people would still understand it. Understandable the Malaysian pronunciation would be easier for English speakers, what with them pronouncing their i’s like e’s and not pronouncing their r’s while we roll our r’s like the Spanish and the Italians 😁 Yes, the loudness of the call of prayer is an Indonesian phenomenon not found in other Muslim-majority countries. You’ve only been to West Sumatra where it’s probably one of the loudest but in general mosques across Indonesia are loud although the levels vary depending on where you are. I also live in a Muslim-majority place, but I don’t hear the call of prayer the entire day, even on a Friday (the Muslim version of Sabbath).
Yeah weve been to many Muslim countries. Other countries don't play it at such loud volumes and they also don't play things all day through the loudspeakers :/

$5 in indonesia we can have breakfast, lunch and dinner plus dessert
Delicious and amazing value
13:24 Nanas (sometimes pronounced nenas like this guy said) = pineapple
Cheers for explaining!
Glad that you enjoyed the trip! Just be mindful of the thumbnail tho and the perception it may bring to the locals.
I'm holding up five dollars in Indonesian money aha what's wrong with that?!
