  • This scalars and vectors physics video tutorial explains how to distinguish a scalar quantity from a vector quantity. It gives plenty of examples of scalar quantities and vector quantities. Mass, temperature, volume, distance, and speed are all scalar quantities while velocity, displacement, force, and acceleration are all vector quantities. A scalar quantity has magnitude only while a vector quantity can be described in terms of magnitude and direction.

Had a report today, exams just finished and we had to explain this lesson as a report but due to the exams we weren't able to prepare fully for it as we didn't know what to say or do. Thank God I found your channel, we were able to make the presentation in less than 40 minutes and this video helped us big time! We were a bit nervous but we managed to report it smoothly despite two out of 4 members missing.

See I look at the difference this way: All scalar quantities need only one poin to exist. That point is valued according to zero. Vectors must have two points and they don't have to respect zero.
For example: acceleration needs an initial point and a point to which you want to compare. How much did the the vehicle accelerate from 30mph to 40mph. Vectors use scalars to work.
On the other hand: speed needs one point and compares relative to zero. The man walked 10mph. 10mph is 10mph from zero. You could say the man ran 5mph faster than he walks, but you are still starting from as your initial speed you are adding to is referenced from zero.
