    ───────────────
    Before buying a freeze dryer, perhaps research to find out more about the downside of the machine; some people have problems with their machine and it's big and heavy and hard to return!
    When trying to decide what to freeze dry you can start by asking why.
    Start by asking yourself this question. Why are you freeze drying food? Knowing this should help you decide what you should freeze dry first.
    I'm freeze drying because:
    Just to freeze dry leftovers?
    You want to make your own food for camping/backpacking?
    For if/when the SHTF?
    For a short term emergency?
    You have your own garden and want to freeze dry the food?
    You love Costco but don't have a family of 6?
    You are good at finding the food sales but only have 1 freezer?
    When you cook homemade chili just for yourself you make 10 gallons? Because you have 3 full freezers and are worried about power outages?
    If I knew then what I know now, I would have freeze dried things in a different order. Or maybe not, because I started freeze drying because we had 3 full freezers, I was thinking of getting another one, and I decided I should buy a walk-in freezer instead. I started looking into walk-ins and realized they were expensive to buy (even used ones) AND expensive to own and operate. Then I found out Harvest Right was making home sized freeze dryers. One of my first thoughts was "I like Mountain House!" I have used their food for backpacking almost 45 years and we even kept some in our travel trailer, for just in case.
    Freeze dried food will stay fresh for many years and be ready and waiting when you need it.
    We do videos showing how we are using our Harvest Right Freeze Dryer to freeze dry food for long term storage. (We have the medium size machine that we got in August of 2017) We talk about how to load and unload the freeze dryer, how to know if the food is dry, is it better to freeze dry raw food or cooked food, and do a few taste tests. Freeze dried food is also great for prepping or just for camping and snacking!

    I used my garage sale find a like new apple peeler corer slicer with bolt mechanisim and didn't find a problem finding the center .
    I don't like that it's necessary to fasten to my table leaf due to narrower thickness and that it points away rather than sideways .
    One advantage is to be able ro sit down .
    I do have a Victiro apple grinder reserving sauce removing waste ( corer and peel)( I do save peels for jelly or cider vinegar) altho must be cooked.
    With the chemicals being added to our food particularly a chemical wax called
    A-peel, I find it nessary to peel the morning breakfast apple for hubby who has chemically induced Parkinson's from Agent orange, so I don't want to contribute to daily ingesting of this.
    Thank goodness in the fall, I get apples from a local private orchard by the 5 gal buckets full so won't have to peel all of those for applesauce. The Victiro is great for that and I freeze in quart bags ,lie flat and stack
    they don't spray or add wax.

    They should have use a replaceable bushing, that is probably the result non field testing? Great idea using the laser...

    • @SchoolReports
      @SchoolReports  Год назад

      True, but most people 1) probably don't use theirs enough to wear it out, 2) aren't willing to pay an extra dollar or two for a replaceable bushing feature, and 3) couldn't install a bushing if they had one. 😁
      Thanks!

      The peeler arm is spring loaded; you just push it down out of the way and it locks in place. I think you can see it pretty well here - Apple Picking and Slicing October 9th - ruclips.net/video/EHhP9AmzI5Q/видео.htmlsi=mCFoi7YySA-9ANll&t=106

    True geek! Love that. Laser aiming made me fall off my chair. And the scoop finishing - bravissimo 😁 Thought over to the minute detail - very highly appreciated. (And in in this culture of impatience this carries a message well beyond apple peelers).The bitter part is what's missing. Your review would be so much more informative had you used IMperfectly shaped apples and added IMperfectly shaped potatoes. What about IMperfectly shaped cucumbers? So, I am now looking forward to seeing a...sequel.

      @@SchoolReports Missed! By pinning it appropriately you''ll loose its eccentricity and the apple will still have an excellent spherical shape. What a disappointment. to learn that an apple core is more often then not NOT the geometrical axis of an apple. But keep trying.

    • @SchoolReports
      @SchoolReports  Год назад +1

      No I haven't, but when I look at them side-by-side they seem nearly identical in most respects. I did notice that the Williams Sonoma one did have the release level on the correct side. They really are great peelers/slicers/corers. We just used ours two days ago to slice and core (but not peel) 25 lbs of pears for freeze drying. I do like them better than my old one.
