    Good luck on the flow this year! Glad to hear you started to get something! The flow in CT / MAS area has been phenomenal this year. I have a package hive this spring that just got its 5th med super. The milkweed I think is super strong and doing the leg work + white clover. We have a small plot of it and they all have 8 globes + new ones still coming out and its hammered with bees.

    Thank you for sharing. I live in Michigan and really hadn't thought about bees for profit until your video series. Have you thought about seeding conovala, Hisop, additional clover, or other plants to boost honey? I seeded additional Clover, Milkweed, and Hisop, and it made a difference. Would have even better if not for the strange weather.

    Good video again Nathan. The kids are sure growing up.
    I lost about three weeks of honey production this spring with all the cool and rainy weather that had many windy days between weather system. Basswood is blooming and they are finally putting on some honey now. I'm glad I don't make a living producing honey. I hope your crop ends up being decent.

    Been stripping the hives of their honey - testing with refractometer says its done even though its not capped off fully. Extracting, sorting and cleaning up frames and freezing in preparation for winter storage - any Fall flow goes towards overwintering so once the supers come off they are not going back on this year. Leaving each hive with a forth medium box of partial honey frames for dearth which seems to have arrived at least 2-3 weeks early. The dry hot heatwave and lack of rain has now turned into hazy, hot and very humid with the arrival of 2 inches of rain - Thank you Jesus for the rain! Hoping you get a good flow. That float down the Duck sounds refreshing.

      @@DuckRiverHoney I honestly mean it. Other bee videos on youtube are good but your videos are under rated for sure. Nathan I know there are hundreds of other videos doing step by step queen rearing , splits , and everything else you do on a daily basis. Have you thought about making a few of them just to get hits in the search function. Just throwing an idea your way to grow the channel not sure if it would help or not.

    That green "rock" could be Prehnite. If it has round like made of "balls"... the "really cool rock". Where there's one... l collected so much of those here when I was a child. I still have them stashed 😂. My thresher got really heavy

    Our basswood is silvery on the underside but I still can get a deep box in the right year. Must be some other variety. My sumac is something from China.. spreads around like crazy it's a big problem. Doesn't even have flowers it spreads with the roots and is very resistant to drought. When everything else is suffering this thing grows like crazy without any rain for months. We can't get rid of it. More you cut it better it spreads

    I'm curious to know your thoughts on if the cicadas have had an impact on the flow, since they do a considerable amount of damage to the thin branches of trees. I'm guessing it may have been the reason some trees went into panic mode and bloomed earlier, and I'm willing to stretch to say the earlier blooming fruit trees are going to be feeling the affects in fruit this year and blooms next year. My pears, plums, and even the wild black cherries have already shown issues and damage. I'm just on the other side of the Nashville Basin from you.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  6 месяцев назад

      Most of my bloom was over before the cicadas hit peak. They definitely weaken some trees.

    Do they make any honey from devils walking cane? It's a shame they don't make honey from Elder Berry that stuff is everywhere. Ive seen them work it but not much.

    • @johnl302
      @johnl302 6 месяцев назад

      They do work devils walking stick (cane) Aralia spinosa,. It is a minor summer flow here, but does help through the dearth. I cant say I"ve made honey off it because it is near the end of the flows. I just saw a flower head yesterday June 29th that is almost blooming in south Arkansas.
      I agree on the elderberry, never seen a honey bee on one here.

    • @DuckRiverHoney

      I expect they work it a lot, but I have t seen weight gain from it.

      @DuckRiverHoney Nathan, do you all have Peppervine (Ampelopsis arborea
      Also, the common name might be cow itch or buck vine?
      We have a good bit in South Arkansas, and it does add a little weight right after sumac flows. Texas A&M said it goes north to Virgina and east to Florida, but I dont know about elevations it might occur or if elevation would affect the flow of it. I am at 188' above ms.
      I really like the taste that it adds to the summer honey. It is very wet, I checked some capped today at 19.5.
      Waiting on your next video
