What I love about Evanescence is that everything comes straight from Amy's heart and pure, real emotion. Nothing is fake, cheeky love songs like our so high esteemed pop artists. This song is a perfect example; you just hear it in her voice that she means every word. It brings me to tears.

gxfan039 I haven't personally experienced anything bad but i always enjoy such melancholy songs very much because i am quite depressive and have a dark mind so such songs always appeal to me.
Everytime listening to "Hello" and "Like You", it is not just like listening to a song. It's more feeling, that I can feel how devastated Amy losing her sister.
She also lost a brother aged 24 due to seizures.

My sister died a few days ago. She was killed by a reckless driver. Last night I ran to her grave and dug my fingers into the dirt and just laid over her and bawled. I found myself coming back to this song today.

I lost both my parents as a child and ended up in social care. I was never really allowed to grieve. I was just supposed to function. If we showed signs of too much sadness we were medicated. So I tried to be ok on the outside. But I wanted to lie down with my parents sometimes too. I just could never tell anyone.
Oh my gawd... Terribly sorry for your loss. I lost my mother a year ago on June 18th of 2020 died of lung cancer, and she battled it for 5 years...(I miss her so much)

That is a very good description of the way I felt when my wife of 18 years and I called it quits. Damn near killed me and that is no exaggeration. My advice to anyone going through something similar? Make sure you have some healthy coping mechanisms.

I often feel like attempting again. My mom passed in 2017 unexpectedly. I have BPD and she's the only one in my family who knows how to deal with me- or who wanted to. It's been hard. I've had many days/nights where i just laid on her grave.

My big sister passed away 6 months ago at 33 years old...she fought cancer 3 long years all the while my parents and I helplessly saw her suffer until she passed...I miss my only sister and feel lost without her...this song brought me to tears bc I feel so much guilt that she suffered and died and I still live and breathe...I will always have a huge hole in my heart that no one can fill like my sister did!

My Mother passed on on June 18th of 2020 (last year), and i had a whole traumatic experience with funerals. Plus I listened to this song when I was 10 years old. And now, Everytime i see the word "Sis" i replace it with the word, "Mom". I miss her so much.

This is such a sad and powerful song. When i first listened to this I started to cry, it's emotional and shows that even those u loved and care for are gone they'll always be with u no matter what in memory, heart and spirit.😭😢🤧
I was listening to this while I was sitting in my academic enrichment class and I decided to look up the lyrics and copy them down on a piece of paper and saw the "sis" part so I looked it up and almost cried in class.
I feel ya... I didn't really hear the "sis" until I had listened to it a ton of times, and then looked up the lyrics and saw it was really said in the song and learned the backstory (for those who don't know, her younger sister died when she was only 3 years old, of an unidentified disease... Amy was only 6 at the time, and was good friends with her sis)
Everytime I hear 'sis' I started to cry, it was a very emotional song Amy has sung and it's about her little sister death.😢

Then when he passed away 7 years later his sister my kids aunt was tortured the same way without her brother before she passed. Such a sad song but I can understand the lyrics. Actually Amy's sister didn't die from cancer, as we know, she died from an unidentified illness. Either not given to the public from the family or just still unknown. It's really sad :(
Maybe it's because we just read it, but this song makes me think of Ophelia from Hamlet, either singing this in her madness to the prince she believes is dead, or having Laertes sing this to her before setting off for his own suicidal revenge. I don't know, but it's really powerful.

I play this song on constant repeat whenever I can because my parents don't allow me to listen to this type of music. This reminds me of my grandmother's passing when I was in 7th grade. Now I'm a junior in high school and her loss still hurts and I'm never allowed to express my feelings so they're all bundled up inside me eating away at the happy girl my grandmother left behind. I felt so alone (and still do) until I found this song. Thank you Amy Lee for helping me express some of what I'm going through even if I still feel alone and left in the dark. Here in my opinion, it's like the denial and acceptance stage. First she says that she is NOT in grieving, because she was supposed to be going for her, that is... she meant that she too was dying. That he was going to meet his sister and said that where she is, there's room for two. I interpreted everything that way, and I think it's Amy's heaviest, deepest lyrics. Really really sad... but I love the melody.😢💙

If you just casually listen to evanescence it’s still beautiful but when you really listen to their catalog in depth and meditate on the lyrics it is extraordinarily dark and heavy and Amy dares to go to naked depths in her lyrics that so few have the courage to go to which is why I adore her so much she’s unbelievably strong and brave given everything she’s endured

But both my parents have become abusive and cold towards me, like they are different people. I lost the loving parents I once knew. And this is why I'm afraid to love. I am scared, scared that others I love will also become so cold to me. My parents also raped me, and I once sas naked pictures of myself on their phones. I never knew those pictures existed. The people supposed to teach me love and how to properly live destroyed every last bit of me. I got a secret boyfriend a few months ago. I just hope he doesn't do the same thing as my parents. I will admit I am very scared he will be cold and abusive sometime in the future. It tears me apart but he seems so good and actually loving. 💕 just remember, even if you are in an abusive situation you can't get out of, it can always get better, in some way, eventually. I'm just waiting for my time to feel better. I can survive... Just need to tell myself that for another 4 years. Then I can be free.

There is help out there for you -- you are a teenager now, go online and look for free counseling available in your area -- Jewish Family and Children's Services is a good one (and they help everyone, you don't need to be Jewish at all). Your fears are actually justified, cuz we tend to be drawn to people who have similar traits to our cold or abusive parent or parents, who seem loving and different at first, but are actually also cold/abusive. If you go to a counselor and don't feel comfortable with them, try a different one, I had an amazing one when I was around 22 who helped me immensely to let go of some of my pain and start learning how to stick up for myself and find my own way to a healthier mind-set and more awareness of whether people around me were safe for me (emotionally) or not. I'm sending you loving energy, trust that there are good people out there, and look for them!!! And back away quickly if you realize someone is not safe!

People say like "you'll never see them again" but it's not true. I can't believe they would say those stuff. But it's not true. The spirit will move on in the afterlife and they'll wait for their loved ones to join them one day. I lost my both grandfathers almost 1 year ago and I miss them very much.
The sad reality is that when a person lost someone who they really love, end up very mentally sick like with depression and some of them don't survive. Others end up surviving and move on, others don't and they can lead with a broken heart syndrome. The pain of losing someone will forever stay part of you forever. It's sad that people kill themselves after they lost someone and have been fighting for a long time to get better but sadly didn't manage...

A distant but equally loved friend of mine was killed in a car crash in 2008. I was in 3rd grade. She was in 4th. I remember we all had a gathering in the school garden. It rained that night. I only found this song in 2013. It still brings back memories.

but I lost my ESA, and my beautiful cat Biscuit a week ago, and all I've felt is being numb and lost without her. I just want to be with her, I can't imagine living without her any longer. I can't remember a day she wasn't with me. From bottle feeding her to staying by her side when she had kittens, and during her cancer.. to go from her soft paws clinging to me, wiping my tears in her fur and just listening when I needed her. She died in my arms that night.. and I can't forget seeing her trying to hold on for me. When I whispered to her.. letting her know it was okay to go, she finally did.
No one else understands what the pain is like, since I lost her life has become a downwards spiral. She truly was my angel. I stare at her urn every day and every night. Wishing it was a dream. I know I'll need a new support animal soon, but I don't feel like I could ever move on, or connect to another like I did her.
The day I brought her ashes home all I could do was listen to this song, reflecting my pain. My partner, my family.. no one understands how much this has hurt me. They expect me to move on but I just know I can't.
I want to be with her. I wish I was in her urn with her. I wish it was me. After her surgery she was never the same, and I wish I could have done more for her. I feel like it's my fault. I feel like I failed her.
I just want the pain to stop, and I want to be with my baby again.

I have listened to all kinds of metal music for over 40years now and I can whole heartedly say that this is without a doubt the darkest song I’ve ever heard. Amy just puts everything she has in this. I’ve only seen them live once and really wanted to hear this song but it wasn’t in the set. Maybe next time.

It remained me of dog Brittany my Chocolate lab on my picture and she was always there for me. When I was little I always play in the backyard with her a few years later she started getting sick with Kidney failure. We took her to the vet that he or she said she has to move on there's no cure. I cry every night for her cause I miss her so much that she's my favorite dog in the world. And i will never replace her.
