Left the bike on a side street, walked back into town, bought a shovel, dug it out the side street and waited for the main roads to be cleared and rode back.
Living in Canada, I have lots of experience with driving in, and around, freezing temperatures. Anywhere around the freezing point, you are never sure what to expect. Just wondering how licence restrictions apply to these electric bikes, are they considered same as twist and go autos? Come to think of it what about Honda with their DSG boxes?
I beleive the UK license restrictions are related to horse power so as per electric "push bikes" they will fall under certain classes dependent on output to the rear wheel.

Exactly the same happened to me in my Capri circa 85, little bit of drizzle that froze on contact with road. Good luck on the srs repair. I have that red one in premium trim so 2x3kW failing at around 6.000 km during winter with the same isolation errors. They replaced the spider bus twice to fix it. But now it's all good at 13.500 km and indeed once you ride it again you forget about the issues.

Re the Zero and charging etc, I recently hired a Tesla Model X and drove it cross country (pretty much Chester to Lincoln and back). Really isn't a problem, I was taught to take breaks on long journeys anyway. Electric is definitely nothing to shy away from. Imagine if Tesla allowed Zero to use superchargers!
I'm sure something will happen and yes, you have to change the way you plan things. I really don't miss going to petrol stations when I'm out playing. I do it enough when training and it's a ball ache.
@@RoadcraftNottingham charge rate on the supercharger was north of 250 miles/hour. If zero was supercharger compatible, even if it wasn't free, you'd get a full charge into a zero in about 20mins. Takes me longer than that to drink a coffee.
I wholeheartedly agree, problems exist with any brand bike, some small, some big, some humongous. The size of any problem is a matter of perception, I guess. It is indeed how problems are solved that is very important. A dealer can make or break any brand by their actions towards their customers when encountering issues, breakdowns & such. Thank You to Alexc, I guess! I do not do FarceBook, I find them too invasive into my privacy & completely disagree with what they stand for, they are evil in my view. But that is my opinion, each to its own of course! I drove in icy weather, during blizzards, snow, it is indeed not always a free choice but surely adventures and you really learn how to deal with such situations which aren't always avoidable. I even had my formal bike trainings during the winter period as well, way back then. Is it smart? I do not know, probably not. But I was damn pleased with myself I was not keeping some adverse weather from enjoying riding or getting trained and gaining those experiences to make me grow into it further. It is the sum of all those that I truly believe makes us better riders. I mean, way back then there was no abs, integral brakes, let alone fuel-injection, you really had to learn & inow your stuff. Or your lights go out in a snuff :-\
I used to ride my bike to work , 20 mile each way regardless of weather , snow was actually fun but black ice was scarey. I'm gonna get electric motor bike when they come down.in price but for now I built a couple of ebikes for me and the wife to play with, great fun.

The other thing is if you choose not to ride in adverse conditions you will never learn how to control the bike accordingly in a safe manner should you be caught out unexpectedly. Its like saying don't ride off-road its full of rocks, mud and ruts, well with proper training you learn how to and that has the benefit of improving you on-road riding too especially on deteriorating roads within the UK network.
You watch any modern KTM review, invariably they will report an electronic problem of some sort- in other words, it can happen to any bike... I remember it was back in 1983 my CX500 starter solenoid failed ;-)

I won't be getting a Zero, at least not yet. I drive an electric car and would love to have an electric bike but every example I've seen of a Zero over a year old looked really tatty; they just don't seem to wear well. There are others to choose, the Energeticas look interesting but the price is just astronomical. Anyway, let's see what yours looks like in a year's time!
Well I can tell you so far that the fasteners and bolts have weathered better than the triumph... The discs are showing slight signs of rust but I'm actually quite impressed with the finish quality.... So far 😉
Actually Scotts Valley where Zero is based is much, much wetter than Nottingham. Check out the climate - compare the graphs on Google for "climate scotts valley" vs "climate nottingham". When it starts raining in autumn, the rain typically continues for days on end. The long rainy spells last all the way through to spring. Fewer wet days that Nottingham, but way more rain, continuously, when it is raining. I used to work on the Borland campus, also based in Scotts Valley (now called Enterprise Technology Center).
Ive had alot of ICE bikes over the years, ive now gone for electric, but for me its because its different, i dont compare it to my previous bikes, if i wanted a ICE bike i could go and buy one, but i wanted to try a E Bike, Im not sure why so many people have so much hate for EV, you have a choice and will do for another 14 years with bike, plus those bikes will still be good for 20 years, so thats still 35 years of ICE bikes, people really need to stop hating on EV's especially when 95% of them haven't even tried them yet.
We have a Nissan Leaf as a 2nd car which fulfills 80% of our car usage, it costs 4c/km. to run, but the range & charging stations are not there for out of town work. From that experience, I'd guess the zero would be fantastic unfortunately when I take the Triumph Tiger out I normally go 4-600 km so at the moment an electric bike wouldn't be fit for purpose. It must be the dry Australian climate, I've had no issues with the Tiger, my dealer is really good, although my contact in the dealership has left so the future may be a different story. I'm sorry to hear about your lockdown troubles, the authorities seem so arbitrary, it's the same over here. Politicians taking digs at each other, seemingly arbitrary decisions, etc. Let's hope we beat this virus soon.
@@RoadcraftNottingham I remember the BMW Oilhead GSs coming out & having a 400km range & people being a bit negative about that. The Paris Dakar Airheads had a huge tank 30l from memory & people didn't want to upgrade & give that up. Sometimes it's a long way between fuel stations over here. I usually have a break & a flask of coffee or tea & a buttie on the roadside every hour or 2. I have a 1-1½ hour ride to get out of the city & onto the backroads.
Just laughing at you trying to change gear on the Zero. I finally plunged back into 2 wheels last summer, buying a loverly second hand Versys 650. When the government announce when we're coming out of tier 4, we'll be able to train again.
Okiedokie
Well I definitely booking with you
My CBT was booked for the morning after they announced lock down. Got a email saying it was cancelled until March 20th. Gutted.
You should get it earlier than that. I think it's about mid Feb but that's not guaranteed
Exactly the same happened to me in my Capri circa 85, little bit of drizzle that froze on contact with road. I lost all steering / braking and slid awkwardly into a kerb and knackered the steering rack. For local’ish stuff electric bikes make a lot of sense, it’s the way things are going but I’d really miss my V Twin
I loved all three of my Capris, black 1.6l with chrome wheels, 2.0gl and 2.8i. The beauty of owning bikes is you're allowed to have more than one... I love my Vs too.
@@RoadcraftNottingham Mine were 1600S (that’s the one that took a whack), and an A reg 2.8i (a bit thirsty weren’t they lol). More than one bike sounds good to me 👍👍👍
Hi mate when you looking at starting up again I'm lost with the rules I have seen car driving instructors out on the road. Ref Facebook I will give that a miss not a fan of that platform your great on RUclips hopefully see you soon for my first lesson stay safe mate.
When the government put us into tier 3 we can train again
I've got an old (2007) GSX750F - nothing has gone wrong or needed to be replaced in 20k miles :o 😎
I've had loads of bikes without problems, people I know have had zeros without problems too. All bikes suffer one time or another. My instructor has been through 4 sets of wheels on his Honda Africa Twin. My cbr600 was recalled twice in 87,my Suzuki gsx550 was recalled due to the reg reg packing up. Just Google bike recalls, there's 100s.
@@RoadcraftNottingham My 39 year old R65 just keeps on trucking. Lawnmower reliability and performance :-) ???
Hopefully you can re-open soon. Could you keep social distancing? Yes probably very easily. Is the Government tool a blunt instrument? Yes. Could it be refined? Not in any sensible timescale vs Mr Virus and it is a huge problem for lots of small businesses that (actually) could keep going safely. I hope to see you on the other side and that income from RUclips helps. Subscribed and looked-for every few days !!
The lawnmower is actually an 860 now, so I can call it a motorcle again. But I'm keeping off the frost for now (woos) .....
Facebook? I hate it. Time and life draining sucubus. There is real life and then there is Facebook. I understand why you have to post there(business). Us normal humans are on a real rather than virtual plane though. The virus has affected mental health, Facebook and Twitter also have an inluence though. At least motorcycles and their riders are real. You are aren't you????
Doesn't say much. I rode a BMW R1200 RT up to 140.000km and had a lot replaced, even shaft drive. All under warranty so no complaints here. Replaced it with a R1200 GS and 70.000 km later nothing failed on it.
Good luck on the srs repair. I have that red one in premium trim so 2x3kW failing at around 6.000 km during winter with the same isolation errors. They replaced the spider bus twice to fix it. But now it's all good at 13.500 km and indeed once you ride it again you forget about the issues.
@@dogshome7110 you're spot on with everything there.... Erm, can't argue with you. ☺ Cheers.
Always reminds me of the old milk float noise I just can’t get that tune out my head Ernie fastest milkman in the west 😂😂😂😂 ATB

Hi Russ sorry to hear that you are not aloud to trade due to the conditions we are living in ,
Being self employed it does play a big part in our lives, anyway enough of this, good to see you have a new toy to play with please keep us updated on how these new improve bikes are like,
Wish you all the best,
Steph
Thanks Steph, I'm making the most of the rest before things go mad. I'm looking at trying to back off from instructing a little now I'm getting older so this is a taster.
@@RoadcraftNottingham good morning Russ i feel sad to hear that you are backing of the training as no doubt your pass rate is quite high and it would be a shame to loose a good trainer like yourself,
I do know what you mean by backing of as am no spring chicken either,
Anyway what ever you choose to do am sure it's the correct way, i wish you all the best and success in the future kind regards,
Steph
Crap, I just realised my MT-07 is in the garage since September and the battery is still in... I knew I was supposed to do something before winter!
Yep, they still take a tiny bit of power. You may need a new battery.
@@RoadcraftNottingham Phew! 10.2V, should be salvageable. Thank you! I have a DVR cam system connected 24/7. I was sure it's a goner. Lucky.
Tram and milk float noise...how about trolleybus!?
"Old enough to remember"
And I took that personally
Agreed. Facebook is a bad habit. Thanks for your comment. ☺
@@RoadcraftNottingham Thank you for sharing!
Sharing is caring, and you are caring a lot, very much appreciated!
I used to ride my bike to work , 20 mile each way regardless of weather , snow was actually fun but black ice was scarey.
I'm gonna get electric motor bike when they come down.in price but for now I built a couple of ebikes for me and the wife to play with, great fun.
When prices come down sales will certainly go up. ☺
@@RoadcraftNottingham yep, let's wait and see.
Government will no doubt start taxing the hell out them though soon enough.
@@FlyingFun. of course they will, I'm paying no road tax for this bike at the moment so things will only get worse for them. I'm enjoying it while I can. ☺
@@RoadcraftNottingham no road tax and more importantly no fuel duty.
This pay per mile idea to recoup the loss in fuel duty doesn't sound good if the numbers they are suggesting come about.
@@FlyingFun. the biggest thing I learned over the years of hearing about different learner laws coming in is to wait and see. Type approval and leg shields for bikes was being banded about in the press in the 80s and never happened.
Isolation faults are normal on Zeros, sadly. It's shocking that they haven't sorted that out in the new ones. Sucks about lockdown over there. Hopefully things go back to normal soon!
YAYYYYYY, 😂 Thanks for the comment dude... Yes, it's shite, we can't even legally ride for "recreation" this time, they've closed that option so trips to my shop it is.
@@RoadcraftNottingham wow, that's horrible! C'monnnn vaccines. Once you get your Zero back, do you have any trips planned?
@@NewZeroland I don't tend to do trips nowadays because I ride bikes for a living but might set aside some time for an "adventure" at some point before I'm too old. Loved your first trip upload and looking forward to seeing the next one.
@@RoadcraftNottingham Never too old!! And thanks 😁
Kawasaki look after my Triumph 865 and there very good , they have time for me👍🏍
The other thing is if you choose not to ride in adverse conditions you will never learn how to control the bike accordingly in a safe manner should you be caught out unexpectedly.
Yep, chocolate cams on the vf750 and the ktm Duke 125 wiring loom was a total shambles. We could go on forever, yes, let's, making me feel better 😂
What battery heated gloves do you have? bud
They're Gerbing but the plastic palm is separating from the leather. Will do an upload soon.
@@RoadcraftNottingham cool thanks bud. Funnily enough I'm stuck between the gerbing and the racer heat 4s. Think that will have finalised my decision.
@Roadcraft Nottingham 0:18 Just FYI: With the right tools it is very easy to recreate a key from just a profile shot like this. I'm sure you have additional measures in place but be really careful with showing any key on RUclips
Save the trouble and break the whole clasp with a crowbar. ☺
Good job you're well established mate. This "covid " has been devastating for small businesses. Seems more than a coincidence as well
I won't be getting a Zero, at least not yet.
So far 😉
I was planning to take a Livewire out for test ride last year but the covid restrictions put a stop to it...
Bugger! I wouldn't mind having a play on one of those.
Wow! with those kind of savings you could take up smoking and drinking :)
😂 😂
Russ: Where's my Zero?
Lost Japanese WW2 pilot: Where's my Zero?
Coincidence? I think not!
Interesting.... If that's the case then they should know better. ☺
Ive had alot of ICE bikes over the years, ive now gone for electric, but for me its because its different, i dont compare it to my previous bikes, if i wanted a ICE bike i could go and buy one, but i wanted to try a E Bike,
Im not sure why so many people have so much hate for EV, you have a choice and will do for another 14 years with bike, plus those bikes will still be good for 20 years, so thats still 35 years of ICE bikes, people really need to stop hating on EV's especially when 95% of them haven't even tried them yet.
Agreed, people get so aggressive. Great comment thanks.
Weird that it's on a Dutch plate.
Yes, if I did such high mileage in single goes I'd reconsider my position but I did 210 miles one day with a coffee break and was happy.
On my way to Facebook right now! Another great video, until you reminded me that I am old enough to remember the electric milk float 😂
Welcome old man 😉
How many bikes does a training school need?
None at the minute unfortunately 😕
It's a busy school and most of the bikes are used most of the time but 4 in there are my personal bikes being stored.
Just laughing at you trying to change gear on the Zero. I finally plunged back into 2 wheels last summer, buying a loverly second hand Versys 650. Using it when ever I could in the good weather meant the car got ignored for a while and when I got back in it I found myself trying to change down by hooking my left toes under the clutch pedal and lifting it.............
First time I've heard of that lol
Love the comment about milk floats. Our milk is delivered by a 50 year old one. Talked the the guy that runs the dairy he has about 6 floats all converted to lithium batteries with modern motors and controllers. Love the idea of electric bikes but as you said it is the suppport that makes the difference. Also they are still a little bit on the expensive side still but that will change.
Yes, I'm sure it won't be long before the prices drop. ☺
Yep, been on facebook and took the mick! lol
My answer is very-very simple. Until it doesn't sound like a VFR800, Aprilia V4 or a crossplane R1/MT-10, I'm not interested. :)
Well it doesn't sound like them so get one! 😂 No, I know what you mean, my Tuono v4 sounded awesome but remember I still have awesome sounding bikes too. Vfr750, cx650 turbo, Rd250lc and 350 ypvs with Microns ☺
@@RoadcraftNottingham Yeah, I wanted a 750f but my mechanic voted against it as a daily driver.

In my opinion, you are perhaps mistaken in stating that the you are 'fortunate to have no kids'. As a life long biker I can tell you that the love of a child, and mine is 27 years old, is worth a thousand 'toys'. Keep safe.
Yes, it's only opinion but I see so much aggression in this world that I personally feel it'd be cruel to bring a child into it. Lots of parents I've spoken to have said that as much as they love their child, they'd do it differently if given the chance. Thanks for your comment. ☺
Bring back the ST1100..!!!

Darn commies restricting everything! I was out today it was 35f cold but no ice! I'm not taking the zero in the ice.. haha and I see why you get double the mileage I do haha I didn't really realize how aggressively I ride... our speeding rules are a bit different though I suppose.. haha
I have noticed how much difference in range I get when dropping my speed as little as from 70 to 60. Thanks for your comment... Finally 😉 😂
If you can remember the milk float, you should be eligible for the vaccine 😀

Still, it doesn't really bode well that his zero makes a sound like whizzz....clink clink... slam... whizz...

Looking back at the rules throughout Covid seem ridiculous now 😂
Sorry, not for me the electric . Like the noise and smells of internal combustion engines, I makes me sad that it will end one day.❤️👍
It won't end in our lifetime I'm sure. I'll never be able to replace that amazing smell of the castrol R in my lc tank. These can happily live side by side with the ice bikes. Sod everyone when I'm dead, I'm OK jack 😂
I ride in the wet and the cold you don't learn anything if you don't.
No doubt if Donald doesn't push de big red button r covid doesn't get us all.. those bikes have a big future. But that Facebook thing..
