- I take my girlfriend on her first backpacking trip to one of my favorite spots, Horton Creek, AZ! On our backpacking trip, we talk a bit about how the expectation of a beginner backpacker compares to the reality of going on your first trip and enjoy some pine needle tea around the fire.

Looked like a couple of beautiful days for hiking. Glad your girlfriend enjoyed it.
Wow, amazing capture! Keep up the great content! Looking forward to more!
So peaceful! Great idea on making the bench! Happy trails with your girlfriend!
Had a wonderful time backpacking with you!! 💚 can’t wait for more adventures !!! Already miss it just watching this !
That was my first over night trip mid April, maybe we crossed paths
Awesome video. question are there any campsites with the rock seats at the end of the creek where all those campsites are or are they only along the trail before the end of the creek? And can you camp right next to the creek?
Thanks! I’m not sure what you mean by rock seats, but there is currently a restriction where you’re not allowed to camp within a few miles of the spring. Downstream where the trail follows the creek, you’re allowed to camp close to the creek, but you should never camp within 200ft of a water source so animals have unhindered access and the damage to the natural resource is mitigated during your time there.
I watched your azt journey. Great videos. I want to backpack with my 7 year old, and horton seems perfect. I'm in prescott so not too far to travel. Are the campsites easy to find? I Need an easy trip for her first backpacking trip, and I think this would be perfect. Thanks for your video!
Thanks for the support! 😁 It’s a gradual climb, but it’s a great beginner hike. There are several obvious campsites within the first few miles. Just go early as the parking lot fills up QUICK.
@@TrailTime thanks!
Camp sites are plentiful at Horton Creek.
Awesome 👍 I'm hoping to backpack here soon. Is there a certain mileage in you have to hike to camp?
It’s about a mile until you hit the creek, but after that there are plenty of wonderful spots. Just FYI, there’s currently a camping closure by the spring at the end of the trail.
@@TrailTime right on! Thank you. I'm new to solo backpacking so I'll be binge watching the treks 😅
Best of luck on your trip! Thanks for your support😁
My girlfriend and I are looking to get into backpacking and we are in this area! Looks like a great place to start! Does it cost anything to camp there or leave your car at the trailhead?? We are confused on how to find out where we can camp and where we can’t.
Great question! It is one of my favorite areas but it has gotten really popular lately, so if you go, go early or mid-week to avoid the crowds.
Generally speaking, you need a permit to camp in any national park managed areas (that includes most national monuments and national memorials as well)
If you’re on forest service or BLM land, you can pretty much camp wherever for unless otherwise stated. You just need to move your campsite every 2 weeks. This trail is on USFS land, and no permit is required.
I would start with looking at forest service trailheads, or use the backpacking filter on all trails. That will give some ideas 🙂
@@TrailTime Thank you very much for the reply! Great info, I appreciate that very much. We are saving up to get all the gear we need to get started, can’t wait to get out there.
@steve3011 best of luck!
@@TrailTime Thanks again! I hope you and your girlfriend are still getting out and backpacking together. Seems like a great way to make some lasting memories.
@steve3011 she recently became my fiancée so I’d say backpacking worked 😉
Can you do a video on picking up cute hiker chicks? My ex was too city and refused to go hiking with me so I had to dump her. Now whenever I see a single chick on a long-distance hike she's usually taken.
