What Comes in a Compressor Kit?

- The customer is getting a compressor replacement! We prefer to buy AC compressors as a kit because they come with a warranty and usually make the AC blow cooler than before. It includes the compressor, the dryer, which acts like a filter, and an expansion valve, which most of the time is fine, but we replace it anyway. I’d argue it's the most important part of the AC system.

I really like this channel because he has a way of explaining things that just make sense to me.
Yeah I see that aswell. He has the mentality that my buddy always tries to beat into my brain with electrical work "keep it simple."
As Einstein said, “If you can’t explain something simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” That is a mark of a professional.
You, sir, are my favorite mechanic of all time. You’re likable, informed, practical and caring to your customers. I love to watch your videos.
I went through four brand new AC compressors on my Lincoln town car. Three of them were four season brand, and the fourth one was a Motorcraft. All four of them failed one way or another. Whether it was rattling, the clutch assembly falling off of one of them, not sealed correctly, leaking. After the pandemic parts suppliers have become garbage. I ended up at the junkyard, pulled a used compressor off of a crown Victoria for $25, slapped it on the Lincoln, and never had a problem afterward.
Just did all this the other day on my 2015 Tuscon. I've replaced a bunch of compressors, but never the drier or expansion valve. He's not kidding. It blew cold enough to make me shiver on a 95F day.
sometimes the dryers are in the condensor.
As an hvac company owner, I can say this man knows what he’s talking about.
Best car guy in the internet right now. No BS or trying to sell you what some company paid him to say. Respect ✊🏾
No he is not. Fake it to you make it term was coined for him
You get fooled I can tell obv HE MAKING A VIDEO HE GONNA SOUND BAD ASS as soon as the camara turns off doe 😂
Whoever has access to your local repair services is blessed. So hard to find trustworthy, honest people in service industry. Stay blessed!
Always replace the filtering device if you’re gonna replace the compressor 🙏🏽
Aren't dryers and filters the same?
@@That_dawg420yes pretty much
I would add it should be done anytime you open up the system. I swapped out the drier when I replaced a discharge hose.
Where do those go?
@@That_dawg420 I think it's called the receiver dryer. I know cause I replaced my AC compressor a couple of months ago and it was a kit.
I like the way you explain everything to your customers....we know you are truly trying g to help people and not rob them👊🏾✊🏾
Pro tip, when working on a vehicle if you have an issue and you installed new parts and in your head you say " but those are new they can't be the issue" IT DOESNT MATTER YES THEY CAN BE POTENTIALLY! even new parts can be bad and this is a prime example. You know how many techs dont mess with the parts they get and just stick em on? TOO MANY! This guy is smart to double check the functionality of the item so he doesnt waste time on the R&R procedure.
In very simple terms, the hot coolant gas from the compressor flows through the constricting expansion valve. This forces the coolant gas to drop in pressure and as the pressure drops, so too must the temperature. The cold gas vapor now flows over a radiator and fan, cooling the incoming air before it enters the passenger compartment.
Keep up the good work... giving mechanics a good name nationwide
Just went through ac fundamentals on my 08 civic. Fun stuff 😅
This guy talks common sense and helpfulness. Good to see him helping out consumers with sensible advice!
Always F150’s with a plethora of shithouse issues
The expansion valve makes the same thing as the Trigger and nozzle in a Aerosol Can Paint , goes from high pressure to low pressure, and as the volume increases, its temperature decreases, but in HVAC instead of releasing to the atmosphere, it goes to the evap, and the heat is absorbed by this cold gas and then moved to outside the car
Sad that even the shops receive inoperable parts from distributors.
I’ve run into a few issues with Dorman products at AutoZone. Either the motorized components go bad way too premature, or the plug/ pins on the wiring harnesses don’t match up/ line up to factory harnesses.
"Dorman"
Found your problem.
Chill, competent, knowledgeable, and willing to share without condescension. Just found this channel today, but I'm already a fan.
Right to the point and confirmed a lot of my guesswork. Our Toyota Tundra lost its charge, got refilled but the shop that did it told me that there was still a leak, but it was so small their detector couldn't find it. Time for a new compressor and I'll buy the kit! Thanks!!
How many times people ride around without air conditioning because the mechanics can’t get it right 🤔
Me currently. My local ford said it was my front evaporator. Had it repaired then it went out again less the 1 month. Then they said it was the compressor. Took all my money can't afford another 2000$
@penelope.1904 😢 that's just wrong on so many levels, especially with heat wave. They should offer some type of compensation.
Using garbage reman compressor though 🤔
Might as well go new if you're doing the completed kit installed.
Great MECHANIC!
I got schooled! Thanks!
bro i been watching him for almost...2 days...and i will gladly drive my 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 to wherever he is just for this man to work on it with whatever charge...and i hope him and his crew found a new shop that doesnt double the rent on them...just wait a few more months man you and your team wont be getting screwed over and will skyrocket. in 2025!
Ok is this dude trolling now
Every video he getting ashier and ashier
I have a 16 buick verano it just hitting 71k what should I do to make sure I get 71kmore mile out of her?
change the oil and never buy a buick ever again
Car is almost 10 years old...Start by changing the oil every 3-4000 miles...The tranny fluid ev'ry year...And, the Antifreeze once a year...Make sure all filters are changed at least once a year, If you drive alot, ev'ry 6 months... Tire pressures up to factory specs...Tune-up ev'ry 5000 miles...Old vehicles need maintenance done alot sooner, unless you have $40-80,000.00 for a new vehicle...Remember maintenance is cheap, vehicles and major parts repair or replacement aint...Cheers 🍻!!!!
Plugs every 60k miles, Ignition coils every 100k miles, grab a new radiator cap and gas cap. Change your transmission fluid every 60k miles, synthetic oil and quality oil filter every 3-4k miles, brake and suspension inspection every 15k miles. Change your coolant every 60-80k miles. Any strange sounds get them checked out immediately
Don't crash it.
Yea... hes bloody honest mate, keeps it simple
Guys like this are the real future and only hope for our whole world.
………Cocoa butter has entered the chat 💬
My 2000 f150s AC smells like burnt something. What could that be?
😊😊😊... Too much "Mexican Mondays or Taco Tuesdays "...👍👍
Could be the ac clutch going out because it starts to eat itself from the inside and that causes burnt smell might wanna check under the hood because you’ll have black gunk near comp area early sign that you need to replace fairly simple job
Clean the vents that draw in air by the bottom of the windshield. Clean the evaporator thru the drain. They make a cleaner for this. It may just be that its filthy and change your cabin filter, as well.
I have a 2013 and a 2007 Toyota and both still have the original AC compressors the continues to pump out cold cold air.
Great job.. but read the paperwork that comes with the compressor......most times a good rebuild you can't spin by hand......30yr tech here keep upnthe good work!!!!
How much do you guys charge for a water pump replacement for a 2012 Volkswagen CC 2.0 Sport 4cylinder
25 yr mb.tech. after repl. Vacuum system down -30 hg & leave gauges hooked up for 12 hrs.to test system before charging.( Vac. @ diag. R&R lines to clean internally to E valve on repl.)
Can’t forget the orofice tube filter MOST IMPORTANT THING
Do you come across AC system with FICD Valve? Example Toyota COROLA SEG AE101?
Seems like ford's compressor go out. My 2019 expedition xlt compressor went out.
As a rebuilt, AC compressor paint black always have problems with those painted black compressors.
The rebuilt company's don't do a good job that's what they're Painted
The problem is being able to evac your system at home for working on the AC system. If you don't have an ac machine and you are 609 hvac certified your stuck in the water. Hands down working at the shop is worth it for the shop equipment alone 😂 I miss the alignment rack and the AC machine so much it's not even funny.
I just replaced the entire system in mine and did it all by myself and saved myself like $2000. The worst part was getting the evaporator out from the dashboard from the glove compartment. It was hard work but it paid off now my AC is ice cold.
AC compressors nowadays are made out of aluminum. That dissipate heat very well, but not when they're painted. They get hot , don't last as long
I love this guy,and I don’t even know him.😂🥰
I’m Sorry but why is this guy so eloquent and don’t sound like my classic black dude from the hood? Just saying… 🙂
I know you're shop is in Texas what part i would like to come by and shake your hand my brother great job and you know your car's 👍💪💪👍💯💯💯
Freon 😂😂😂
Where are you located😂
They are located in Houston Texas.Links in their bio
Condenser turns hot gas into cool liquid. Expansion valve meters liquid so it cab turn back into cool gas.
Replacing tge A/C compressor without changing the receiver/drier unit can and will contaminate the new compressor and make it fail in no time... This is good advice
is that a Rem.
Compressor kit. You know those things are trashed 75% of the time out of the box. Right probably why your first one failed
Look at God.. I’m going to get my ac checked tomorrow. Now I know if he tries to tell me a price for just the compressor to decline because I might as well replace the whole thing. I want my ac collllddd 🥶
Hope you arw enjoying the traction you jave beem getting lately. The car world can use more mechanics like you
I'm a refrigeration tech. Been thinking about learning how cars ac works. Plenty of side cash to be made
When you don't try to impress people with cool sounding slang, you earn a ton of credibility with people.
Hey when they replaced my burned out compressor they didn’t replace the drier .. worked great but how long will compressor last ? Someone told me since it was the external clutch on my compressor burned out no contamination on the inside?
Anytime you open an AC you want to replace the old reciever dryer, it will remove moisture if there is any in the system, but its cheap insurance like changing schraders and any o-rings you come across.
Shouldve changed the entire condenser out while youre at it. Compressor goes out. Change the compressor, exchange valve and the entire condenser which would have the drier included
Am i the only tech that gets bothered when ppl still say Freon?? it's just refrigerant, not Freon.
expansion valve works, alternately some cars use the fridge method with a capillary pipe, some of those use a solenoid with a storage tank with a thermostat, the unit stores the liquid which lets it remove even more heat energy so when it's injected to the capillary tubes it's extremely freezing, it has the added perk of not constantly loading your engine so it can be pretty efficient, plus it's nice because the freezing air is almost instant
OH YOU FORGOT TO SAY MORE LABOR HOURS WHEN YOU SAID YOU LIKE TO BUY THE KIT INSTEAD!!! LMFAOOO LITTLE TRICKS AND ROBBERY FROM MECHANICS😅
That black compressor will fail for sure they always leak and come out of the box locked up.
You're going to need warranty for that supplier, high defective rate
Expansion valve is a metering device…at best it flashes liquid to vapor.
Does anyone know good mechanics in Vegas? I would take my car to Firestone but I feel like they would lie out of their ass and also not too sure if quality of their work is any good
If you have “soot” inside your AC system you’ve got much bigger issues 😂
Man said make the Ac colder😂 that’s not how refrigeration works
Well what really messes up everyone's ac they want to go in a store or just set there with there ac running think that this is okay no you're ac compressor is building up head pressure could ur not driving to cool the condenser off to keep the head pressure down stop going in stores keeping your ac on cause you don't want to get back in a hot vehicle that will save you a lot of money and your vehicle
😊🎉
Honest work U go Brother man
Dude should go teach he has plenty of knowledge and has a great way of explaining stuff
Expansion valves are far superior than the tube fitted orifice types.
Funny it failed already. Should have brought a Toyota
Probably first compressor no one actually put the oil in it
Didn't last
I wish selling extra necessary component was that easy. People deserve to take the bus the way they wanna cheap out
The condenser has to be replaced as well. Clogged condenser will rise your high side pressure.
Very informative but sometimes is not necessary to replace all of those parts just the damage one
1800 radiators best place to get any kit you can think of
Like seeing good people like you retiring and nice having a good young man doing a good job 👏
I sure hope it blows colder they wouldn’t be there if was blowing cold
Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge and experience on fixing different problems with cars and trucks.
He is a experience mechanic
I Would like to learn to do auto mechanic in america the tools in america are very good
Expansion valve same as Txv on ac system at home great job 🎉
How much do you charge for that replacement?
All do respect but i stay away from those reman compressors for that reason
Always buy brand new and in a kit form. Just not worth going at it any other way
The words hot and cold are relative. No one will understand you
Genius
They is! He just couldn’t help himself
Great mechanic
Where do you get most of your parts and what brands do you use?
Without refrigerant there is no AC system!
Excellent
My guy knows what the fuck he’s talking about
Nice upward infections?
Boni buying cheap parts
Knuckles tougher than a $2 steak.
Wish he could open a branch in P'cola
I have a question AC compressor turns on and off on hot days in the afternoon after it cools down it works like normal. Could that be the clutch or low pressure in the system.
Check the refrigerant in your system first. Any system that depends on fluid for performance needs to be at an appropriate level. Too much/too little Freon WILL cause the clutch to cycle too often and lead to awful cooling ability.
2015 and it already needs a condenser?
Soot in the aircon 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love the knowledge bro
