I have a chocolate persimmon that has male flowers. You inspired me to plant a fuyu, jiro, nakitas gift, garretson, coffeecake, saijo, giant fuyu, miss Kim, and other fuyus
Hi Lou! I agree the the culture of Figs have become pretty comprehensive through the decades! I find the leaf patterns very interesting as well! Love your healthy Nikita's Gift too! Your Saijo looks as if it has grown quite a bit since last year...Wow!! I look forward to your next videos...thank you for sharing your garden (and thoughts!!).
Hey Lou: Another interesting and entertaining video as always. If you ever are trimming/pruning the "Valley St John" tree from your uncle would love to trade you some honey from our farm for cuttings. My Adriatic JH is one of my favorite figs and being able to ripen some a couple weeks earlier would be really helpful where I am. (zone 6a East Tennessee mountains). The deer have already helped me out this year by "pinching" my Adriatic JH for me. Seems like they just know which ones are the best...lol.
Hi Lou Can you do a video on keeping animals away from the fig trees and garden? I really enjoy your videos and love all your advice I’ve Ben using over the years. Thanks James from Jersey
Thanks for posting another interesting and informative video. I have two container fig trees that I overwinter in an unheated porch. They go dormant in winter and get an early start in spring as sunlight through the many windows heats up the porch. My trees are full of figlets here in zone 6b. Any suggestions on when a good time to pinch these trees?
My wild persimmon tree fruit is very astringent no matter how ripe but the raccoons love them. I saw a doe eating them in my first months here. Some trees are better than others but this one lives beneath a giant pine and gets no sun. Oh I hate these pines here. They cause numerous problems with my emergency solar and fruit trees and garden. I got my solar setup for another lot but of course plans change. So no running my heaters from solar in winter, no thriving winter garden, and greatly reduced charging the rest of the year.
@EricKeiser HI, Eric. Growing fig trees in containers is almost an entirely different science. Because the roots are highly compressed in pots, fruiting guarantees aren't as critical as they are growing in ground. Fig trees are more productive when their roots are restricted. It's very important not to place fig trees in containers larger than necessary, or maximum fruiting isn't likely to be obtained. Still, over fertilizing too early before fruit set isn't prudent, even in pots, in my opinion. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

Sorry for the misspellings . I really need to wear my glasses.
A bird got my first Celeste of the year. Should have gotten it yesterday 😢
I got a gigantic fine mesh thing I can wrap my fig tree with. Eventually I will need more and driveway alarms for the raccoons at night.

Hi Mr. Monti, does your advice about waiting to fertilize until after you see figlets hold for container trees also or just figs in ground? Thanks!
