DO NOT ZAMP IT. It's probably just going through it's Xcelerator phase, and probably waiting on a part from Intamin. You know how waiting for that goes...
Xcelerator is the reason I hesitate to visit new parks due to fear of being screwed over by closures. I've been to Knotts at least twice, and Xcelerator was closed all times.
Top Thrill and Fomula Rossa both closed for extended periods of time due to maintenance. Falcon's Flight is supposed to be faster and taller than both while under relentless sun all year round, I wonder how that's gonna go😮
Realistically it should be more reliable than TT2 and Formula Rossa were. It's just an Intamin blitz but on a much larger scale, not a brand new model like TT2 is, and not a notoriously unreliable one like Formula Rossa. It definitely will have it's issues but I don't think it'll have as many as these.
@@namevone The big difference is that Zamp has less experience doing the blitz on this scale, where this has become Intamin's bread and butter. I'm sure if FF has issues it won't be on Intamin's end--more likely Six Flags drama or because it's a country that doesn't do too many of these big projects.
The thing is, Falcon's Flight will be using LSMs to propel an already moving train. It's not using a hydraulic cable launch to propel the train from a dead stop to over 100mph. As a result, the concerns are going to be less with mechanical systems and more electrical, and the failure state is less catastrophic (and I use that in the technical sense, not the "MASSIVE DISASTER" sense). Instead of a cable snapping or a hydraulic line bursting, FF will instead be subject to potential overheating, electrical burnouts and brownouts.
I hope Intamin will take a page out of Zamperla's book, and replace the hydraulic launch with LSM's (Zamperla's track wouldn't match). The one advantage is the slower LSM launch could mean removing the trims (one note: the only launches I have experienced are at Canada's Wonderland, my home park)
Honestly, I'm not surprised these big launched Intamins are closing for heavy maintenance and/or refurbishment. The records they were built to break were already pushing the physical limits of what could be done with a roller coaster. Heck, Formula Rossa had a huge trim run on the airtime hill after the launch because _if it didn't the ride would exceed safe G tolerances over the hill and in the first turn afterwards,_ meaning that the extremely overpowered launch was only there to claim the speed record and had no other purpose. They could probably cut the speed on this thing and remove the trims and provide mostly the same ride experience while vastly improving reliability, with the only cost being a loss of intensity on the launch itself.
I think Taylor might be onto something about the speed. These countries and these parks have big money. It can't be ruled out that they might speed up the ride and have it ready to go once Falcons Flight opens
Formula Rossa is closed for maintanance of 12 years of service, its a major maintenance system, my friend works for Miral Group the company that manages ferrari world
I wouldn’t be surprised if they were just waiting for a part. There’s a really informative channel by a former Six Flags mechanic called Ryan the Ride Mechanic. He released a video about his favorite ride manufacturers, from a maintenance perspective. Intamin made his list of least favorite manufacturers because they have a tendency not to stock replacement parts, so a simple part could cause a ride to be down for an extended period of time.
I was at the park yesterday, and spoke to a staff member. He wasn't 100% sure when it would open again, but said that staff had been briefed to advise it would be opening again in the very near future.
Honestly had no clue that the ride was down! Would be VERY surprised if they get Zamperla in for no reason other than TT2 has been closed ever since week after opening, and still no sign of it re-opening! Feel like Zamp really dug their grave with that one sadly, especially for the really major coasters
Kingda Ka just reopened from being shut down for a little over two weeks. The ride allegedly had a cable snap, and the park had to wait for a new part to be shipped. If it only took a little over two weeks to fix this part on Kingda Ka, than there must be a more serious problem for Formula Rossa.
I planned a trip with a stop over in Abu Dhabi on 5th of January for May of this year. Couldn´t change the dates, even bought an entry and quick pass ticket online, I was very surprised when I got there.
Superman Escape at Warner Bros. Movie World is an Intamin Hydraulic Launch coaster and it unexpectedly closed recently and ended up being shut for over 2 months. There was nothing obvious happening on the ride either, however the park did release a statement confirming there was an issue with the launch and new custom parts were being fabricated by Intamin to get it operating again. Maybe it is a similar situation for Formula Rossa, but as it’s a more complex ride, the manufacturing of parts is taking longer.
Interestingly enough, Superman Escape down at Movie World just had a long unexpected closure due to an issue with the Hydraulic accumulators in the launch. Intamin had to manufacture new parts for it. The ride went down in Feb this year and only just re-opened about a week ago.
It makes more sense for them to convert it to a lsm launch like red force since yes it wouldn’t be as punchy but it will still be the same speed eventually
This is such an interesting mystery, and the conversations surrounding this can be endless. Despite being the fastest, and living in the extreme heat, it was actually one of the more reliable Accelerator coasters, so I'd be surprised if this was a maintenance thing. But as you so subtly alluded to, they're good at coverings thing up out there, just look at the situation regarding the Ain.
I actually went earlier today. Asked an employee about Formula Rossa's closure; said something about it being repainted rebuilt re-everything I dunno something like that, and also it should re-open in DECEMBER 2024!
Funny enough, when this video was posted Kingda Ka blew a motor and was down for a few weeks. So the tallest and fastest operating coaster goes to Top Thril- oop it’s still closed. What about Superman Escape fro- oh wait they had a fire by the maintenance panel. Guess it’s Red Force?
It was asked, "Can LSMs get the train up to 143mph?" yes, with enough space and energy. The faster you go, the shorter period of time the train's fins will interact with the LSM fins. That's one reason most rides utilize a swing launch. You get twice the bang for the back, and you get to say it's a feature or another element. It is totally possible to do it but a lot of math goes into determining how long and how much juice to give the LSMs.
Regarding the extended closure, Xcelerator was closed for FAR longer and reopened with the same hydraulic launch. Plus, that was a prototype and is 8 years older than Rossa, meaning it probably uses older technology than Rossa, which is why I doubt the ride will need to be completely shut down and renovated with LSMs. But then again, Rossa does go almost double the speed 🤣 As for the speeding up of the ride, it's a possibility but considering all the issues they had even reaching 149 mph back in 2010 and the fact that Intamin probably wants nothing to do with the model anymore, the park would have to somehow reach 156 mph with the same launch system that gave them problems 14 years ago, or go through a different company to speed up the ride. But of course this is all just speculation.
I believe these Intamin hydraulic coasters are like an old car. Once one part fails, a lot of parts start to fail. So they need to go down for a long refurbishment to replace a bunch of pieces, and Intamin isn't known for fast customer service. Look at Xcelerator, Storm Runner, Matugani (delayed launch), and now Formula Rossa.
Formula Rossa, renowned for its reliability, has rarely faced significant issues throughout its operation. The park consistently prioritizes daily inspections, typically closing the ride between 4:40 PM and 5:30 PM for routine checks. This proactive maintenance approach extends to other attractions, like Flying Aces, ensuring the rides remain in top condition and highly dependable for Ferrari World visitors. The current downtime, however, is attributed to a snapped cable and the ride's annual maintenance. Unfortunately, the extreme weather conditions in the UAE since January significantly delayed repair work, extending the ride’s closure. Adding to the speculation, rumors suggest that Ferrari World may be working to enhance the ride’s speed. Construction activity and new components observed around the launch section of the track have fueled this belief. While unconfirmed, even park staff have hinted that this might be true, possibly in anticipation of Falcon’s Flight, a competing rollercoaster set to debut soon.
It’s kind of weird for the park to close it because Kingda Ka is open and Great Adventure probably knows that the roller coaster is going to get topped
I don’t think they will make it faster, at least not with Intamin’s help. I don’t think Intamin would want to take the record away from Falcon’s Flight
@@thecoasterauthorityYou could be right, I would just think Intamin making it faster than FF could violate their contact with six flags to take the new fastest coaster. It could also damage their relationship with SF which would be detrimental since cedar fair already is refusing to work with them.

@@The_MenraC I completely understand what you saying. Also with Dragster and Ka that was still during the coaster wars. I just think they would wait a couple of years first. Guess we’ll see!
Hi All, thank you for sharing your perspective and it's great to hear your thoughts and speculation about this Rollercoaster's extended downtime, hopefully it will reopen soon. Cheers Peter :)
Theoretically if they wanted to hold onto a record they could change the launch to make it the new fastest accelerating coaster since Dododompa closed down
6:33 no, obviously if they were doing this, they complete the upgrades now, reopen the ride at the previous speed, and then up it /after/ Falcon's flight is finished and the design is set and can't be altered anymore (well, anything can be altered with enough money, but you see what I mean).
You would think that any company that operates a hydraulic coaster would have a backup cable on hand. That way, if one snaps, you can put the other one on and then order a replacement. Especially a company like Ferrari World, which has plenty of capital. Definitely think there is more to it than just them waiting on a part like a cable.
@@zanzabar4ky7 They're probably only making a slim profit on the park. Annual attendance is likely over a million people, but not nearly on par with a major North American, European, or East Asian park. So you wouldn't order a new launch cable until it's necessary to reopen the ride.
@@brianfoss571 it is 14 years old. It makes no sense why they did not buy a new cable. I get that they have lower attendance and run 1 train with fewer cycles. But if every other park had this issue how do you think that your largest version is not going to do the same thing. It also seems like a safety issue that intamin should be scheduling. Maybe that they would be doing if they still sold the ride.
The phrase “got Zamped” should go along with the woman’s face at the exact moment she turns her head at 1:00 into this video. 😂 I’m still laughing from how she looks. It should be made into a shirt and you can sell it as merch.
LSMs are capable of reaching those speeds, but a lot of it has to do with power consumption. As it stands, LSM technology isn’t where it needs to be to justify launching a coaster at those speeds with the amount of electricity it takes. It’s a shame that hydraulic/pneumatic launches are as unreliable as they are, especially pneumatic.
7:43 air compressed launches are definitely more powerful than hydraulic launches, hence Do Dodonpa being the fastest accelerating coaster in the world when it was open as well as Hypersonic XLC, but they have the same maintenance issues that hydraulic launches do.
I hope Zamperla can fix their Top Thrill issues with ThunderVolt. I presume a smaller conversion could be much easier, especially without a switch track and slower speed (but a single train might be the achilles heel)
Last year I had the luck to ride it. The launch is so great that it causes a blank in my memory. Last week I rode Ride to Happiness a dozen times. That is a greater coaster. The stats are fantastic but not all of it. Flying Aces was the better coaster at the park.
Records are meant to be broken. My home park Magic Mountain had the worlds fastest roller coaster for 6 years. When another coaster beat it nobody was upset. I think it would be much cheaper for Ferrari World to change a sign than change a coaster.
Every ride similar design is never open when i show up.. Superman at magic mountain, the top thrill at cedar point, accelerator at knotts berry... I never even try to anymore
My money bets they install LSM's to bring the speed to 160MPH even, and accelerate to that in 4 seconds. That way, they can change the sign to read "World's Fastest Launching Coaster" - which will be ambiguous between duration to top speed and top speed, even if it gets eclipsed one day by a faster (top) speed. The concept is that Ferrari cars improve on speed year after year, so the coaster can do the same...
With dodonpa gone it would be smart to upgrade it to be the fastest launched coaster in the world. It's trimmed AF so no point in making it faster speed wise. Also let's not forget that Xcelerator was tested at 117mph at one point and right now it does 82 in 2.3 seconds so Imagine how fast that 0 - 117mph launch was. They just need to be that 1.56 record that dodonpa held.
Just been there 3 weeks ago it was doing fine then. Bummer for you i would have been pretty mad igf that had happenned to me that and eary force where the 2 coaster i really wanted to do on that tripp. In the end only the raptor in six flaggs fiesta was closed wich while not that importend it was me last Raptor i hadn't done. Now i'm glad i didn't move the tripp for 2 weeks to get it.
I don't think I'll even be able to go there or Saudi Arabia so I'm glad at one point soon I'll be able to get on the fastest and tallest operating coaster in the world
Its currently summer not the most populaire seizone over there so hopefully its just that they decided to do a major overhaul. Don't think they will close it permantly thats the major attraction for the entire earia from a coaster enthousianst perspective. I had it planned next winter and if it doesn't open i might postpone that tripp. O i still will go there but it just became a much lower priority.
They are actually flipping Formula Rossa with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster from Hollywood Studios. That’s why Disney has been so quiet about the “refurbishment”
They will make the modifications to get it to 160mph (or faster).. and keep it secret until after falcons flight opens. Who is out there with a radar gun checking its speed, and doubt anyone is going to tell its going 8mph faster. I guess they could add a turbo button for the faster launch + raise the additional trims :) I like the idea of reprofiling the first hill and getting it all the way to 200mph. Even with Falcons Flight, I will want to make a trip to do both.. well as long is its not Zamped...
Formula Rossa is good, It has a crazy launch and a nice layout, but Flying Aces is much better! It has an awesome layout, much more airtime, crazy elements, winged seats...The best coaster from Ferrari World imo!
Get reviews guys, me and my Son flew from the UK 10 days ago, went to ferrari World and we could see no work /repairs going on! Also mission ferrari was closed most of the day, each time asked run will it open " 2 hours time " and the same again, son never went on it ! As you know should park's discount, if lots of ride are not running, free food , etc We have no plans to return to abu dhabi so a free pass would have been no good to us, Still had a great day ,,,, just missed out on them , booked this trip over 6 months ago to
Issues with the launch are likely. Formula Rossa is nearly 15 years old, and hydraulic launches are known for their unreliability and expensive repair costs.
what they could do is that they make adjustments now and as a second option it only needs a new something and then it gets the record? so it opens earlier but it opens with the current record🤔
As much as I don't like the idea, slowing the launch to 130 mph would still give Formula Rossa the "fastest launch" in the world. At least removing some of the trims would probably improve its pacing overall.

I really hope it doesn’t get Zamped. Maybe with TT2’s issues, other parks won’t remove their hydraulic launches
The launch wasn't the problem, it's was the trains
@@alexanderivascu5261 yeah that’s true. At this point I’m just making up excuses to keep the hydraulic launches 🤣
@@thecoasterauthority but seeing that spike in person is a marvel
@@alexanderivascu5261 I'm sure haha, but I am a sucker for the hydraulics
It's crazy how secretive Theme Parks are.
I like cars that you can actually see in front of you like these smaller cars
I’m so obsessed with the term “Zamped”
Just happy i rode it in 2011, but even back then they only opened it late in the day. Hoping to get out to KSA as soon as the new one opens.
The phrase “got Zamped” should go along with the woman’s face at the exact moment she turns her head at 1:00 into this video. 😂 I’m still laughing from how she looks. It should be made into a shirt and you can sell it as merch.
Just came here to comment the same thing lmao. That face is could go places.
Could you couple an LSM with an hydraulic launch to speed it up? (I know nothing about this kind of stuff so sorry for my ignorance).
They can, look at red force and kingda ka, red force launch track is wat shorter
I'll be at Ferrari World in mid August, I'll let you know if I see anything interesting! :)
7:43 air compressed launches are definitely more powerful than hydraulic launches, hence Do Dodonpa being the fastest accelerating coaster in the world when it was open as well as Hypersonic XLC, but they have the same maintenance issues that hydraulic launches do.
Actualy they have even more points of failure. They might be more reliable as that the points of failure don't break down that often.
I loved Hypersonic XLC!
I'm going in December I really hope it opens by then. We'll see.
I hope Zamperla can fix their Top Thrill issues with ThunderVolt. I presume a smaller conversion could be much easier, especially without a switch track and slower speed (but a single train might be the achilles heel)
What? An Intamin roller coaster experiencing extended downtime? Holy Shucking Fit, I did NOT expect that!
Last year I had the luck to ride it. The launch is so great that it causes a blank in my memory. Last week I rode Ride to Happiness a dozen times. That is a greater coaster. The stats are fantastic but not all of it. Flying Aces was the better coaster at the park.
3:02 I think Top Thrill Dragster was closed for a long period of time because they added 1 extra car to the train. At least that’s what I think.
The only way I see LSM’s getting that fast is extending the track alot
Will be there in a few weeks. And I’m sad that it is November and it is still not open 😢
Zamp’d is GREAT! Taylor is just jealous he didn’t think of it!!!😂
My money bets they install LSM's to bring the speed to 160MPH even, and accelerate to that in 4 seconds.
They just need to be that 1.56 record that dodonpa held.
funny thing is, kingda ka is also down for a missing part right now
Imagine if they put 6 parallel rows of indrivetec lsm stators in order to achieve the required acceleration.
It probably pulled an Xcelerator. Closed before it started possibly like for Xcelerator, for a part recall.
I went to Carowinds for the first time last weekend, and it was bummed that Fury was closed. I was told it had been closed for two days prior.
Wait Fury’s closed?? Why???
Just been there 3 weeks ago it was doing fine then.
Bummer for you i would have been pretty mad igf that had happenned to me that and eary force where the 2 coaster i really wanted to do on that tripp. In the end only the raptor in six flaggs fiesta was closed wich while not that importend it was me last Raptor i hadn't done. Now i'm glad i didn't move the tripp for 2 weeks to get it.
Very nice video. Thanks for posting this.
I forgot too what Cedar Point did to help with Dragsters down time. 😂
I wondered why you both didn’t ride it in February. Now I know !
Yeah Top Thrill 2 is still closed and I’m going on Monday - Wednesday. I’ve been excited to ride it :/
They are actually flipping Formula Rossa with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster from Hollywood Studios. That’s why Disney has been so quiet about the “refurbishment”
Disney princesses couldn't handle it
Good thing I got to ride it
For sure Farrari World would want to keep the fastest crown, but I'll bet Qiddiya has a clause with Intamin preventing their involvement in.
As you know should park's discount, if lots of ride are not running, free food , etc
We have no plans to return to abu dhabi so a free pass would have been no good to us,
Still had a great day ,,,, just missed out on them , booked this trip over 6 months ago to
0:56 technically no. Kingda Ka’s closed rn. I know what you mean by it not being SBNO, but yeah, KK is not open
I love "Gettin' Zamped."
I’m wondering if this is sort of like an Xcelerator situation
Very well could be
Issues with the launch are likely. Formula Rossa is nearly 15 years old, and hydraulic launches are known for their unreliability and expensive repair costs.
Kingda Ka is intense. Just as fun in same park is el toro and nitro. NJ rules.
I wonder how many people recognize the F1 drivers in the onride footage
when top thrill dragster comed up at 3:07 there is no wheels on one side
😂😂😂😂
what they could do is that they make adjustments now and as a second option it only needs a new something and then it gets the record? so it opens earlier but it opens with the current record🤔
The TT2 shade is crazy
They should've just used LSM's for the launch since they're more reliable and require less maintenance.
As much as I don't like the idea, slowing the launch to 130 mph would still give Formula Rossa the "fastest launch" in the world. At least removing some of the trims would probably improve its pacing overall.
