China's Type 055 stealth guided-missile destroyer Xianyang officially debuted with hull number 108 on April 21. It is the eighth Type 055 destroyer to serve in the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy. This 10,000-tonne destroyer is China's first independently designed and manufactured destroyer, bringing to fruition the PLA Navy's strategic objective of "offshore waters defense and open seas protection."

not all the VLS is used for medium air defense. there are long range anti ship, anti air, anti submarine..

The people who make these videos 'pretend' to know what they are talking about, but they don't. They copy their info from some web site they found without double checking anything and then copy paste text into some archive footage they got access to for $30. a month. Then they get you to click on it so they can make money.
Chinese needs to have a navy double the size of the USA/NATO/Korea/Japan/Australia and to a lesser extent India put together is every category/type of ships.

The is ship is actually admired by a lot of Western navel enthusiasts. Their reviews of the 055 is positive and comment that the 055 is on the level of Western ships in its class.

Even if US's Burke III enters into service some years later, it will still be behind the Chinese type 055 in many aspects, including the number of VLS and the capability of launching hypersonic anti-ship missiles, let alone the fact that it's more than twice more expensive than type055
Actually there is no evidence that it is more expensive than the Type 055. In fact everything shows that the 055 is a lot more expensive than the Burke not just to built but also to maintain. The number of VLS systems does matter only if it is one on one game but ofc it is not and never will be so such comparisons are pointless. The Type 055 is bigger, more expensive ship so obviously it would have more VLS systems. But when we consider that the Burke is almost exclusively an air defense system the number of VLS matters less. China lacks the air offensive capabilities of the US so they need to have anti-ship missiles in their VLS. The Burke doesn't have to store such even tho it can.
As for China's hypersonic weapons they are vaporware. A facade! YJ-21 is the only hypersonic weapon that can be fitted into the 055. Unfortunately the Yj-21 doesn't fint the modern narrative of a hypersonic weapons. It should be maneuverable when in reality it isn't. It is a hypersonic ballistic missile which is a propaganda way to say a ballistic missile. Yet if it actually has to engage a moving target it is impossible in hypersonic speeds as it cannot maintain communication let alone relible communication in order to change trajectory. That's because of the ionized air around the missile which creates plasma around the body which blocks the electromagnetic waves and thus communication is impossible. So it needs to drop below hypersonic speeds in the terminal phase making it not a hypersonic weapon. Just a regular top-attack supersonic missile.
@@davout5775 Type055 cost around 0.9 billion USD, Burke III costs 1.9 billion, and it was the estimate made in 2012... And what do you mean 'Burke is almost exclusively an air defense system', you mean Type055 is not? That's the basic requirement for a modern destroyer.

Yes the Type 055 has an air defense role in mind but it is not just for that. It has to occupy an offensive role as well as China doesn't have any other means aside from their 2 operational carriers which can't carry many fighters anyway. So the Chinese destroyers also have to be equipped with offensive missiles.
@@davout5775 Burke carries land attack cruise missiles while 055 doesn’t. 055 will fight under the cover of the PLAF. Any heavy land based fighters are much better than the carrier based mid-sized fighters.

Quantity has a quality of its own. Imagine if there are hundreds of these ships. It will be hard to destroy all of them. Even thousands of small speedboats can make a difference.
Wdym quantity, The type 055 is the most advanced and powerful destroyer currently in service, it is miles ahead of the arleigh burke, the Zumwalt was a massive mistake by the US navy that will cost them dearly, tons of money wasted on a non naval combat oriented destroyer (it's meant for coastal bombardment for countries like Iran), went over budget and had a ton of critical systems never installed, it's basically useless.
The Type 055 is born to fire missiles.

The most advanced Destroyer in the world, in parity with the Block III IV Arleigh Burke and USS Zumult Class. Except for the Stealth of the USS Zumult. But, the Type 346 Radar system is in parity with the AN/Spy6 of the latest Block Arleigh Burkes and the USS Zumult Class Destroyers of the USN. What is remiss with the latest Type 055 is the fitting of the Railgun system to augment its YJ 21 hypersonic missiles VLS quadpacks. Very lethal indeed and each Type 055 is a potential Aircraft Carrier Destroyer.

But sorry the JMSDF's Akizuki-class is my favorite DDG design and the Resurgent-class will always be my favorite warship.
